1) India, France signs MoU for construction of three Scorpene submarine
- India and France an MOU for the construction of three additional submarines under the P75 program.
- The Scorpene Submarines have advanced stealth features and are equipped with long-range guided torpedoes and anti-ship missiles.
- These submarines have a state-of-the-art SONAR suite and sensor suite permitting outstanding operational capabilities.
2) Mirabai to lead India’s contingent at World Weightlifting Championship
- Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will lead a five-member Indian team at the World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
- The event will be held from September 4 to 17 and will serve as a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
- Chanu, a two-time world championships medalist, will be competing in the women’s 49 kg category and aiming for gold.
3) Centre allots additional 1.44 lakh houses under PMAY-Gramin to UP
- Uttar Pradesh has been allotted an additional 1,44,220 houses under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna-Gramin’ (PMAY-G) scheme for the financial year 2023-24.
- This initiative was taken in response to CM Yogi’s appeal for more housing for rural residents.
- Earlier, the govt has approved the continuation of the PMAY-G scheme till March 2024.
4) Ravichandran Ashwin becomes second highest wicket-taker for India
- Ravichandran Ashwin has become the second-highest wicket-taker for India in international cricket, surpassing Harbhajan Singh.
- Ashwin has 709 wickets in 271 international matches, with 27 four-wicket hauls, 34 five-wicket hauls, and 8 ten-wicket hauls in international cricket.
- India’s best bowler in international cricket is Anil Kumble, who has taken 953 wickets in 401 matches.
5) Indian Army signs contract for procurement of Tactical Access Switch
- The Indian Army signed a contract for procurement of Tactical Access Switch with Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
- The networking device would provide faster switching capability and strengthen the tactical communication capability of the Indian Army.
- The Tata Rajak system can observe or detect humans from more than 15 kms, and vehicles from more than 25 Kms.
6) UP’s Parul Chaudhary wins gold in women’s 3000m steeplechase
- Parul Chaudhary won gold in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event at the Asian Athletics Championships.
- She had previously secured a bronze in the 5000m race in 2019 but missed the podium twice in the 3000m steeplechase.
- Shaili Singh won silver in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.54 meters.
- Sumire Hata of Japan won gold in the women’s long jump with a personal best of 6.97m.
7) Skill India successfully revives Namda Art of Jammu and Kashmir
- The Namda craft of Kashmir is being successfully revived under Skill India’s Pilot Project as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).
- Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar flagged off the first batch of Namda Art products for export to the UK.
- The Namda project is an industry-based training program for reviving the rich heritage associated with Namda craft in Kashmir.
8) Govt develops guidelines for mountainous road infra with Japan’s help
- The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH) has developed five guidelines to improve mountainous road infrastructure in India with Japan’s assistance.
- These guidelines aim to ensure high-quality and sustainable road projects in hilly regions.
- They provide technical specifications and best practices for road construction in mountainous regions.
9) Goa to host Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting from July 19
- The 4th Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting under India’s G20 Presidency will be held in Goa during July 19-20, 2023.
- The G20 Energy Ministerial meeting will be held on July 22, 2023, under the chairpersonship of Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, R. K. Singh.
- The 14th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and 8th Mission Innovation (MI) meeting will also be held in Goa.
10) Madhya Pradesh announces largest number of mineral blocks for auction
- The State of Madhya Pradesh issued a record number of 51 mineral blocks for auction on 14 July 2023.
- It is the highest number of mineral blocks notified for auctions in a single tranche by any state.
- Madhya Pradesh has notified 125 mineral blocks for auction since the introduction of the auction regime in 2015, of which 46 have been successfully auctioned.
11) Goa CM inaugurates Ayush Health Services and Research facility
- The Ministry of Ayush has established Ayush health services for health care & Ayush research facilities at Ribandar in Goa.
- The facility aims to provide high-quality and affordable Ayush healthcare services to the local community.
- It will also promote research in traditional medicine.
- The facility was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant.
12) All-India Institute of Ayurveda organises seminar on Sushruta Jayanti
- The All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) is organizing a three-day seminar from July 13-15, 2023.
- The seminar is being held on the occasion of Sushruta Jayanti, which is celebrated every year on July 15 to honor the father of surgery.
- Live surgical demonstrations were performed during the seminar on July 13 and 14, including laparoscopic surgery and general surgical procedures.
13) Cabinet approves changes to Jan Vishwas Bill to decriminalise offences
- The Union Cabinet has approved amendments to the Jan Vishwas Bill to decriminalize minor offenses & reduce court backlogs.
- The bill replaces minor offenses with monetary penalties to promote ease of doing business & address fear of imprisonment.
- Amendments will be made to 183 provisions across 42 Acts administered by 19 ministries, including the Aadhaar Act and Environment (Protection) Act.
14) CarTrade Tech acquires OLX’s business in India for Rs 537 crore
- CarTrade Tech is acquiring OLX India’s automotive business, Sobek Auto India Private Ltd, for ₹537 crore.
- Sobek Auto is the automotive business of OLX India.
- The OLX automotive business includes classified internet business and transaction-based platforms.
- CarTrade Tech will acquire a 100% stake in Sobek from OLX India BV.
