1) Ministry of Panchayati Raj organises a National Conference

  • The National Conference on Child-Friendly Village and Women Friendly Village, was inaugurated on 13 April 2022.
  • Sunil Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj chaired the inaugural session of it.
  • A Compendium of Best Practices on “Child Friendly” initiatives by UNICEF and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj was released during the event.

2) Good Friday: 15 April 2022

  • Good Friday is being observed on 15 April 2022.
  • The day marks the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
  • According to the Bible, Jesus was caught and put on trial for claiming to be the ruler of the Jews after being betrayed by one of his disciples, Judas.
  • He was sentenced to death by crucifixion and was forced to carry his cross up a hill while wearing a crown of thorns.

 

3) Author Prem Rawat launches his book ‘Hear Yourself’ in Mumbai

  • Prem Rawat, a renowned educator has come up with his book titled “Hear Yourself: How to Find Peace In A Noisy World”
  • The book was launched on 13 April 2022 at National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai by HarperCollins in association with TimelessToday.
  • In 2012, he received the Brand Laureate International Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, becoming only its 4th recipient.

 

4) PM Modi inaugurates Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, buys first ticket

  • PM Narendra Modi on 14 April 2022, inaugurated the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, or the Prime Ministers’ museum, the national capital’s Teen Murti Bhavan, which has been repurposed as the Prime Ministers’ Museum
  • It will be thrown open to the public on April 21, 2022.
  • The facility also has as many as 43 galleries, displays on freedom struggle and framing of the Constitution of India.

 

5) Rohit Sharma becomes 2nd Indian after Virat Kohli to score 10,000 runs

  • Rohit Sharma has become the second Indian batter to complete 10,000 runs in T20 cricket for men.
  • He achieved this historic milestone during the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on 13 April 2022 in Pune.
  • With this milestone, Rohit Sharma also became the seventh batsman overall to reach the 10,000 run-mark in T20s.
  • Virat Kohli became the first Indian batter to score 10,000 T20 runs in 2021.

 

6) Sabka Vikas Mahaquiz Series launched by the government

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is organising the Sabka Vikas Mahaquiz Series.
  • The quiz aims to sensitise the participants about the various schemes and initiatives and how to avail the benefits.
  • The first quiz launched on 14 April 2022 is the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

 

7) R Pragganandhaa wins Reykjavik Open chess tournament

  • Young Indian Grandmaster R Pragganandhaa won the prestigious Reykjavik Open chess tournament with 7.5 points from nine rounds, in April 2022.
  • The 16-year-old Pragganandhaa defeated Grandmaster D Gukesh in the final round to emerge the sole winner.
  • He became the youngest international master in 2016 at the age of 10 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

 

8) NTPC mulls surrendering three non-operational coal mines

  • Following the government’s latest directive, NTPC Ltd plans to surrender three non-operational coal mines- Mandakini-B in Odisha, Banai, and Bhalumuda in Chhattisgarh, to the Coal Ministry.
  • The company was allocated ten coal mines, including one mine, under a joint venture with the Jharkhand government.

9) Exports of Indian dairy products top $500-million mark, hit 8-yr high

  • The exports of Indian dairy products are estimated at an eight-year high in FY22 on robust demand, aided by higher global prices.
  • Provisional data for the first eleven months, April 2021 to February 2022, indicate that shipments have touched 1.70 lakh tonnes valued at over $552 million.
  • In rupee terms, exports grew to ₹4,115 crore, an year-on-year increase of 94% over 2,122 crores.

 

10) Vice President confers International Gandhi Award for Leprosy, 2021

  • Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on 13 April 2022 conferred the International Gandhi Award for Leprosy, 2021 to Dr. Bhushan Kumar of Chandigarh and Sahyog Kushtha Yagna Trust of Gujarat, in New Delhi.
  • The annual award was instituted by Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation.
  • Both have been working diligently to raise awareness about leprosy and in providing care to those afflicted with it.

 

11) N Chandrasekaran takes charge as Tata Digital Chairman

  • Tata Sons Executive Chairman N Chandrasekaran has formally taken charge as Chairman of Tata Digital.
  • He was reappointed as the Chairman of Tata Sons for another five years in February 2021.
  • At present, Tata’s digital strategy is being spearheaded by its CEO Pratik Pal along with Mukesh Bansal, founder of Cultfit.
  • Tata Digital announced the launch of its super app Tata Neu in April 2022.

12) 10th and 11th editions of the Status Paper on Govt Debt released

  • The central govt on 13 April 2022, released the 10th and 11th editions of the Status Paper on the Government Debt.
  • It provides a detailed analysis of the overall debt position of the Government of India.
  • The central government has been bringing-out an Annual Status Paper on Government Debt since 2010-11.
  • It also includes a chapter on Medium Term Debt Management Strategy of the central govt.

 

13) India Pulses and Grains Association appoints Bimal Kothari as Chairman

  • India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA) has announced the appointment of Bimal Kothari as the new Chairman with immediate effect.
  • Jitu Bheda has stepped down as the current Chairman.
  • Bheda was appointed the Chairman of IPGA on 25th April 2018.
  • Bimal Kothari has been the Vice Chairman of IPGA since 2011 when it was formed.
  • IPGA is the apex body for India’s pulses trade and industry.

 

14) Karnataka CM presents Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar awards

  • Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on 14 April 2022 presented the Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar awards.
  • He also announced that the SC and ST communities would be provided free power up to 75 units.
  • He also informed that a proposed Rs 52 crores ‘Spoorthi Soudha’ would house all the offices rendering various services for the weaker sections.

 

15) UGC releases guidelines for pursuing two academic programmes

  • The University Grants Commission on 13 Apr 22 released guidelines for pursuing two academic programmes simultaneously.
  • A student can pursue 2 full-time academic programmes simultaneously in physical mode provided that class timings for one programme do not overlap with another.
  • A student can also pursue 2 academic programmes, one in full-time physical mode and another in distance learning.

 

16) UNDP announces $2.2 million in climate action grants for innovators

  • The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and partners of the Adaptation Innovation Marketplace (AIM) have announced $2.2 mn in climate action grants for 22 local innovators across 19 countries, including India.
  • The first round of funding will be through the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) window.
  • AIM was launched at the Climate Adaptation Summit in January 2021.

 

17) Paytm becomes official digital payments partner for PMs’ museum

  • Paytm owner One97 Communications has become an official digital payments partner for the PMs’ museum in Delhi.
  • As the official partner for the museum, Paytm is offering its payment gateway, EDC (Electronic Data Capture) machines and QR code payment options to make way for superfast, convenient and secure transactions.
  • PM Modi was the first person to buy the ticket through EDC machine.

 

18) TCS gets deal from UK Financial Ombudsman Service

  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been chosen as a strategic partner by UK’s Financial Ombudsman Service to accelerate digital transformation.
  • TCS will help futureproof the Ombudsman’s technology capabilities with a new digital portal that would improve the experience for complainants and respondents.
  • The company will also develop and maintain complaint management and reporting system.

 

19) World Chagas Disease Day: 14 April

  • April 14 is observed as World Chagas Day every year.
  • The disease is also called American trypanosomiasis, silent disease, or silenced disease.
  • It is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma crizu.
  • This parasite is transmitted to humans through the triatomine bug.
  • April 14 was chosen to mark the day as the first case of Chagas disease in a human was reported on this day in 1990.

 

20) Govt approves 61 proposals of over Rs 19,000 cr under PLI scheme

  • The government has approved 61 applications of companies, including Ginni Filaments, Kimberly Clark India Pvt ltd, and Arvind Ltd, with an investment potential of over Rs 19,000 crore.
  • They have been approved under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles.
  • The proposed total investment expected from the applicants is Rs 19,077 crore and a projected turnover is Rs 184,917 cr.

 

21) Haryana govt extending scope of services under PPP scheme

  • Haryana government is extending the scope of services under its flagship ‘Parivar Pechchan Patra (PPP)’ scheme.
  • The state assembly had passed the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Bill in 2021, aimed at creating a unique identification number for each family.
  • Now, 443 services and schemes integrated with 43 departments are active with PPP and 120 services and schemes are under discussion.
