1) World Art Day: 15 April

  • World Art Day is celebrated every year on April 15, to promote the development, diffusion, and enjoyment of art.
  • The International Association of Art, a partner of UNESCO, created the day to promote creative activity around the world.
  • In honor of Leonardo Da Vinci’s birthday, the particular date has been celebrated since 2012.

 

2) World Voice Day: 16 April

  • World Voice Day (WVD) is a worldwide annual event that takes place on April 16 devoted to the celebration of the phenomenon of voice.
  • The aim is to demonstrate the enormous importance of the voice in the daily lives of all people.
  • This celebration started in Brazil in 1999 as the Brazilian National Voice Day.

 

3) Jagan Mohan Reddy wealthiest CM: ADR Report

  • 29 of the 30 incumbent chief ministers have wealth worth crores with Andhra Pradesh’s Jagan Mohan Reddy having the highest assets totalling Rs 510 crore.
  • The data was obtained from poll affidavits analysed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
  • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has the lowest total assets of about Rs 15 lakh.

 

4) PM Modi inaugurates various projects in Assam

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation various projects worth more than Rs.10,900 crores at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, Assam on 15 April 2023.
  • The projects include laying the foundation stone of a bridge connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi on the Brahmaputra river, a project for the beautification of Rang Ghar in Sivasagar, etc.

 

5) ESA successfully launches its mission to Jupiter’s moon

  • The European Space Agency has successfully launched its mission to Jupiter’s moons, in April 2023.
  • The Ariane 5 rocket was launched from the ESA’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana as scheduled.
  • The Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) project aims to send a satellite on an eight-year journey to reach the icy moons of the gas giant.

 

6) MOS External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi to visit Croatia and Slovenia

  • Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi will be on a four day visit to Croatia and Slovenia from 16 April 2023.
  • In Croatia, she will hold discussions with State Secretary for Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
  • In Slovenia, she will meet the Deputy Foreign Minister, and call on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.

 

7) Himachal Pradesh Statehood Day: 15 April 2023

  • Himachal Pradesh Statehood Day is observed on 15 April every year.
  • It obtained statehood in the year 1971, although the province was created in the year 1948.
  • The day is marked with a grand parade in the capital city of Shimla.
  • Himachal became part C state on the 26th of January 1950 and became a union territory on the 1st of November 1956.

 

8) India’s forex reserves rise $6.30 bn to $584.75 bn

  • India’s forex reserves increased by $6.306 billion to $584.755 billion for the week ended April 7, 2023.
  • In the previous reporting week, the forex kitty snapped a two-week rising trend to decline by $329 million to $578.45 billion.
  • In October 2021, the country’s forex kitty reached an all-time high of $645 billion.
  • Gold reserves rose by $1.496 billion to $46.696 billion.

 

9) G20 MACS Meeting of agri chief scientists to be held in Varanasi

  • The 12th Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) in G20 is scheduled to be held on April 17-19, 2023 in Varanasi.
  • The theme of the 12th MACS conference is “sustainable agriculture and food systems for healthy people and the planet”.
  • The MAHARISHI (millets and other ancient grains international research) Initiative will also be discussed in the meeting.

 

10) NHAI enables FASTag based payments at Forest Entry Points

  • National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), on 14 April 2023, signed an MoU with the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, to facilitate a seamless entry process for vehicles entering into the forest area.
  • The FASTag system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to facilitate automatic toll payments at toll plazas, and FASTag affixation on vehicles is mandatory in India.

 

11) Bharat Gaurav train on Ambedkar circuit flagged off from Delhi

  • A special tourist train was on 14 April 2023 flagged off from New Delhi marking Dr. BR Amebedkar’s 132nd birth anniversary.
  • The Bharat Gaurav tourist train tour on Ambedkar Circuit was flagged off by Union Minister of Tourism G Kishan Reddy from the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
  • The special train will take passengers to cities associated with Dr. BR Ambedkar across the country.

 

12) Govt to spend Rs 3200 crore on sports facilities under Khelo India

  • Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Singh Thakur, on 14 April 2023, announced that govt will spend 3,200 crore rupees on sports facilities in 5 years under the Khelo India campaign.
  • He also inaugurated sports facilities eg. new badminton courts, lighting systems, and Judo mats at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh.
