1) India welcomes its first regional Al news anchor, ‘Lisa’

  • Odisha TV has unveiled “Lisa,” India’s first regional Al news anchor, with the potential to revolutionize the journalism industry.
  • Lisa can speak multiple languages, including Odia and English, and is capable of hosting news updates.
  • Sophia, developed by Hanson Robotics, is an advanced humanoid robot designed for elderly care and crowd management.

 

2) ITC board reappoints Sanjiv Puri as chairman & managing director

  • Sanjiv Puri has been re-appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of ITC Ltd for a period of five years.
  • The decision was made on the recommendation of the committee and will take effect from July 22, 2024.
  • ITC Limited is an Indian conglomerate that operates in various business sectors, including tobacco manufacturing, food processing, retailing, and financial services.

 

3) CM Bhupesh Baghel approves incentive package for industrial promotion

  • The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh approved a special investment incentive package for closed and sick industries in the state.
  • The package includes exemptions, grants, and concessions for different sectors of the state.
  • Cabinet decided to include “Special Investment Promotion Package Implementation Rules-2019” under the Industrial Policy 2019-24.

 

4) Elon Musk launches artificial intelligence firm xAI

  • Elon Musk announced the formation of his new Al firm, xAI, on 12 July 2023.
  • The company will work closely with Twitter, Tesla, and other companies to make progress toward its mission.
  • The goal of xAI is to understand the true nature of the universe.
  • Musk thinks Al could cause “civilization destruction” and joined other tech leaders in calling for a pause in an “out of control” Al race.

 

5) Assam govt employees to serve for 3-5 yrs in ‘Durgam’ areas

  • The Assam government has decided that every government employee has to work for a period of 3-5 years in certain geographical areas designated as ‘Durgam’ areas.
  • The ‘Sugam to Durgam’ scheme has been approved for better citizen-centric governance and service delivery.
  • The cabinet has approved an increase of OBC reservation in institutions of higher education from the existing 15% to 27%.

7) IFSCA inks MOU with IIML-EIC to boost FinTech support

  • International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA) and IIML -EIC, have signed a MoU to collaborate in supporting and facilitating FinTech entities.
  • The MoU aims to put in place a framework for cooperation and understanding between IFSCA and IIML-EIC.
  • The MoU was signed at (Indian Institute of Management) Lucknow EIC, Noida campus in Uttar Pradesh.

 

8) Abhishek Pal wins bronze at Asian Athletics Championships in 1000 m

  • Abhishek Pal won bronze in the men’s 10,000-meter event at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.
  • This is Abhishek’s first medal at a major competition.
  • Ren Tazawa of Japan took first place in the 10,000-meter event with a record of 29:18.44.
  • Gulveer Singh of India came in fifth place overall among the 16 competitors with a time of 29:53.69.

 

9) Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates DGNSS “Sagar Sampark”

  • The Differential Global Navigation Satellite System (DGNSS) “Sagar Sampark” was inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to strengthen the digital transformation of the Indian maritime sector.
  • The DGNS system is a terrestrial-based enhancement system that corrects the errors in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) allowing for more accurate positioning information.

 

10) Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel lays foundation stone of IAAD Complex

  • Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, on 12 July 2023, laid the foundation stone for IAAD (Indian Audit and Accounts Department) Complex in Gandhinagar.
  • The foundation stone for IAAD was laid in the presence of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India GC Murmu.
  • Departments of Accounts and Audit were created in 1862.
  • The Government of India Act, of 1919 provided for ‘Auditor General in India’.

 

11) Razorpay launches first international payment gateway in Malaysia

  • Razorpay has launched its first international payment gateway services in Malaysia with Curlec, a startup it acquired earlier.
  • The new payment gateway aims to serve over 5,000 businesses with a target of Malaysian Ringgit worth 10 billion in annualized Gross Transaction Value (GTV) by 2025.
  • Digital trade in Malaysia contributes to 22.6% of its GDP and is expected to rise to 25.5% by 2025.

 

12) European Parliament adopts new rules to boost energy savings

  • Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) approved new energy-saving targets for 2030 as part of the European Green Deal.
  • The law will set energy-saving targets for both primary and final energy consumption in the EU.
  • Member states must ensure a reduction in energy consumption of at least 11.7% at the EU level by 2030.
  • By 2030, member states need to save on average 1.5% per year.
