1) Shakib al Hasan wins ICC Player of the Month award for March 2023

  • Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Rwandan female cricketer Henriette Ishimwe clinched the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for March 2023.
  • Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladesh player to win the award twice.
  • In the 12 matches played in March, Shakib scored 353 runs and scalped 15 wickets.

 

2) India ranks 5th in countries with most Al investment

  • According to Stanford University’s annual Al Index report 2023, India ranked fifth in terms of investments received by startups offering artificial intelligence (AI)-based products.
  • Total investments in Al startups in India stood at $3.24 billion in 2022, placing it ahead of South Korea, Germany, Canada and Australia.
  • Those ahead of India in the list are the US, China, the UK and Israel.

 

3) India, Estonia hold 12th Foreign Office Consultations

  • India and Estonia, on 12 April 2023 held discussions on bilateral, and multilateral issues during the 12th Foreign Office Consultations.
  • In September 2022, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met his counterpart Urmas Reinsalu during the 77th UN General Assembly session.
  • India opened its Embassy in Estonia in December 2021 and Ajaneesh Kumar was appointed the first Ambassador to Estonia.

 

4) UAE’s Rashid Rover to land on Moon on April 25

  • United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 12 April 2023, announced that Rashid Rover, onboard the HAKUTO-R Mission 1 Lunar Lander, is scheduled to land on the Moon on 25th April 2023.
  • The Rashid Rover is orbiting the Moon at about 100 km at the perilune and about 2,300 km at the apolune.
  • The point closest to the moon’s center is called perilune, and the farthest is known as apolune.

 

5) India ranks 77th at World’s ‘most criminal countries’ ranking 2023

  • World of Statistics, on 12 April 2023, shared the ranking of the world’s “most criminal countries”.
  • On the list, Venezuela has been ranked 1, followed by Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Honduras respectively.
  • India ranked 77 while the USA was at 55th number and the United Kingdom (UK) at 65th rank.
  • Turkey, Germany, and Japan were ranked at 92nd, 100th, and 135th ranks.

 

6) Retail inflation drops to 5.66% in March from 6.44% in February 2023

  • According to National Statistical Office (NSO), India’s annual retail inflation for March 2023 eased to 5.66% from 6.44% in February 2023.
  • The food inflation, which accounts for nearly half of the overall consumer price basket, moderated to 4.79%.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has projected retail inflation at 6.5% for 2022-23, with the January-December quarter at 5.7%.

 

7) K Krithivasan to take over from Gopinathan as TCS CEO from June 1

  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on 12 April 2023 announced that K Krithivasan would take over as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) from June 1, 2023.
  • He has been a TCS employee for 34 years.
  • Krithivasan the global head of the company’s BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) business group, will replace Rajesh Gopinathan.

 

8) Former Mahindra Group Chairman Keshub Mahindra passes away

  • Keshub Mahindra, former chairman of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group of companies, passed away on 12 April 2023.
  • He served as the chairman of the group from 1963 to 2012.
  • He was also the founder chairman of HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited).
  • From 2004 to 2010, Mahindra was a Member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade & Industry, New Delhi.
