1) PM Modi to launch Cheetah re-introduction project on Septemer 17

  • PM Narendra Modi will launch the Cheetah re-introduction project on 17th September 2022.
  • He disclosed this at the inaugural meeting of the national conference for the Zoo Directors held in Bhubaneswar on 10 September 2022.
  • For the purpose, Cheetah will be brought from Namibia.
  • This is for the first time that the Cheetah is being re-introduced after its disappearance from India in the 1950s.

 

2) PM to inaugurate International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit

  • PM Modi will inaugurate International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit (IDF WDS) 2022, on 12 September 2022.
  • It will be organised at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida.
  • Around 1500 participants from 50 countries are expected to participate in the 4-day IDF WDS 2022.
  • The last such Summit was held in India about half a century ago in 1974.

 

3) Singapore confers Meritorious Service Medal to former Navy chief

  • Former India Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military).
  • He was awarded by President Halimah Yacob in Sept’22.
  • He was awarded for his outstanding contributions in enhancing the strong and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between both the nations.

 

4) Know About: Rajya Sabha

  • The Rajya Sabha, constitutionally the Council of States, is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India.
  • The seating capacity of the Rajya Sabha is 245 (233 elected, 12 appointed), according to article 80 of the Indian Constitution.
  • The President of India appoints these 12 members.

5) National Forest Martyrs Day: 11 September

  • September 11 is marked as National Forest Martyrs Day in India every year.
  • The day is observed to pay tribute to the numerous activists who have laid down their lives to protect forests and wildlife across India.
  • The Ministry of Environment chose September 11 as the day to mark National Forest Martyrs Day in 2013 as it was the anniversary of the Khejarli Massacre (1730).

 

6) Vinoba Bhave’s Birth Anniversary: 11 September

  • The birth anniversary of Acharya Vinoba Bhave was observed on 11 September 2022.
  • He is regarded as the National Teacher of India & the spiritual successor of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • In 1940, he was selected as the ‘First Individual Satyagrahi’ against the British Raj by Gandhiji.
  • Bhave is best known for starting the ‘Bhoodan’ (gift of land) movement in India in 1951.
  • He passed away in 1982.

 

7) Only RBI approved Loan Apps Will Make It To App Stores

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked the RBI to prepare a ‘white list’ of digital lending apps to stamp out those using unethical means to exploit vulnerable customers.
  • Ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) will ensure that only apps on this list are hosted on app stores.
  • RBI will also be monitoring the ‘mule/rented’ accounts that are used for money laundering.

 

8) Two-day National Defense MSME Conclave begins in Kota, Rajasthan

  • The two-day National Defense MSME Conclave and Exhibition began in Kota, Rajasthan on 11 September 2022.
  • Defense equipment including T-90 and BMP-2 tanks, artillery guns, & various types of sniper & machine guns are being displayed in the exhibition.
  • The conclave will be formally inaugurated on 12 September 2022 by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla & MOS Defense Ajay Bhatt.

 

9) MDL launches 3rd Stealth Frigate of Project 17A ‘Taragiri’

  • Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) launched the third Stealth Frigate of Project 17A ‘Taragiri’ on 11 September 2022.
  • This ship is designed by the Indian Navy’s in-house design organisation viz. Bureau of Naval Design.
  • It will be fitted with a supersonic surface-to-surface missile system.
  • The keel of Taragiri was laid on 10 September 2020 & the ship is expected to be delivered by 2025.

 

10) Central government fixes maximum number of wards at 250 in Delhi MCD

  • Central government has fixed the maximum number of wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) at 250.
  • Of these, 42 wards have been reserved for Scheduled Castes.
  • Earlier, the total number of seats in the three MCDs was 272.
  • In May 2022, a notification was issued by the central govt for the unification of three civic bodies of Delhi.

 

11) President nominates Gulam Ali, a Gurjar Muslim from J&K to Rajya Sabha

  • President Droupadi Murmu has nominated Gulam Ali, a Gurjar Muslim from Jammu & Kashmir, to the Rajya Sabha.
  • Mr Ali has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha on the recommendation of the Central govt.
  • This is for the first time a Gurjar Muslim from the region has been sent to the Rajya Sabha as a nominated member.

12) Max Verstappen wins 2022 Italian F1 Grand Prix

  • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix on 11 September 2022.
  • Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ George Russell came at the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
  • It was Verstappen’s 11th win in 16 races in 2022.
  • It was also Verstappen’s maiden Italian GP win.
  • Verstappen had also won the Dutch F1 GP on 4 September 2022.
  • He has now won a total of 31 races.

 

13) Iga Swiatek wins 2022 US Open women’s singles title

  • World number one tennis player Iga Swiatek won the US Open women’s singles title on 10 September 2022.
  • She defeated Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the final.
  • It was Iga Swiatek’s third Grand Slam win of her career.
  • Poland’s Swiatek also won the French Open in 2020 and 2022 besides winning the US Open in 2022.
  • The US Open Tennis Championships is held annually in Queens, New York.
  • First held: 1881

 

14) Pension at your doorstep initiative begins in Mumbai

  • The Principal Accountant General office in Mumbai has begun ‘Pension at your doorstep’ initiative.
  • For Pension Samvaad, Pensioners can register their grievances online or on the toll-free number.
  • They can even visit Principal Accountant General’s office on Friday and resolve their issues.
  • Some issues are solved immediately or within 5-6 working days.

 

15) Gujarat Govt announces first-ever Cinematic Tourism Policy

  • Gujarat government announced the first-ever Cinematic Tourism Policy in Ahmedabad on 10 September 2022.
  • The policy will be effective for five years from 2022 to 2027.
  • Aim of the policy: To promote cinematic tourism through the development of film infrastructure and the creation of attractive opportunities for cinema in Gujarat.

16) Nagaland holds its first ever Naga Mircha Festival at Seiyhama

  • In a first of its kind in Nagaland, Naga Mircha (Naga King Chilli) Festival was organised on 10 September 2022 at Seiyhama Village under Kohima district.
  • The festival was sponsored by the Department of Horticulture.
  • Naga Mircha was the first product to receive a Gl tag from Nagaland.
  • The horticulture Dept has chosen Botsa block in Kohima District as a focus area for Naga Mircha cultivation.
