  • Opening of the Second Vatican Council
  • International Women of the Year Association awarded the title Greatest Woman Achiever of the Century to Russian cosmonaut Valentina V. Tereshkova, the first woman in space.
  • American astronaut Kathryn Sullivan became the first woman to walk in space.
  • The unmanned U.S. deep-space probe Pioneer 1 was launched into lunar orbit.

 

1) India has assumed the position of Vice Chair in IORA

  • The 23rd Council of Ministers of IORA met in Colombo as Sri Lanka assumed the chairmanship from Bangladesh.
  • The Council of Ministers is the highest decision-making body of IORA.
  • India has assumed the Vice Chair in the Indian Ocean Rim Association for the next two years.
  • The IORA, an intergovernmental organization established in 1997, comprises 23 member states and 11 dialogue partners.

 

2) World Arthritis Day 2023: 12 October

  • World Arthritis Day was first observed in 1996.
  • This year, the theme of World Arthritis Day is “Living with an RMD at all stages of life”.
  • As a global initiative, World Arthritis Day aims to raise awareness about arthritis, educate people about the different forms of arthritis, their impact on individuals and society and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

 

3) Anurag Thakur launches trailer of animated series KTB- Bharat Hain Hum

  • Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur today launched the trailer of Krish, Trish and Baltiboy – Bharat Hain Hum, an animated series consisting of two seasons, produced by Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Graphiti Studios.
  • Central Bureau of Communication to earn revenue for first time with this series.

 

4) Second spaceport of ISRO to be set up at Kulasekarapattinam

  • The second spaceport of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), which will be dedicated exclusively for Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs) developed by the private sector, will come up in about two years at Kulasekarapattinam in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu.
  • A land area of 2,000 Acres has been handed over to ISRO for development.

 

5) India launches ‘Operation Ajay’

  • India has launched Operation Ajay to facilitate the return from Israel of its citizens who wish to return.
  • In view of the ongoing developments in Israel and Palestine, a 24-hour Control Room has been set up in the Ministry of External Affairs to monitor the situation and provide information and assistance.

 

6) 4th phase of Mission Shakti to be launched on Oct 14

  • Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the fourth phase of Mission Shakti campaign on October 14, in a programme organized in Lok Bhawan, to empower women and make them self-reliant.
  • The people would be enlightened about Mission Shakti campaign, widow pension scheme, Janani Suraksha Yojana, CM Kanya Sumangala Yojana, CM Samuhik Vivah Yojana, Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao, CM Bal Sewa Yojana.

 

7) Nitin Gadkari launches India Jewellery Shopping Festival (IJSF) 2023

  • Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today launched the India Jewellery Shopping Festival (IJSF) 2023 in New Delhi.
  • The launch will be held across the country from 15th October to 22nd November.
  • The B2C scheme will run from tomorrow till 17th November.
  • The B2B scheme has been running since 1st June and will continue till 31 October.

 

8) Hurun Rich List 2023: Mukesh Ambani reclaims top spot

  • Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani has reclaimed the title of India’s richest individual on the Hurun India Rich List 2023.
  • Arista Networks CEO Jayashree Ullal, with net worth of ₹20,800 crore, is the wealthiest Indian-origin business head.
  • This marks the 12th annual edition of the list, showcasing the wealthiest individuals in India.

 

9) KVIC celebrates nationwide Khadi Mahotsav till 31st October

  • The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is celebrating a nationwide Khadi Mahotsav from the second to 31st of October.
  • This festival is dedicated to supporting the “Vocal for Local” initiative and the ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’.
  • KVIC Chairman, Manoj Kumar highlighted the impact of the event in promoting India’s indigenous rough spun fabric.

 

10) PM Modi on 1-day visit to Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones of several development projects, and address a public meeting here during a one-day visit to the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
  • The prime minister will also have a darshan of Adi Kailash, offer prayers at Jageshwar Dham and Parvati Kund, and visit Gunji village during the tour.

 

11) Manikanta creates new 100m national record

  • Manikanta H H of Services created new men’s 100m national record on the opening day of National Open Athletics Championships.
  • The 21-year-old Manikanta clocked 10.23 seconds to win heat No 3 and qualify for the final.
  • He erased the previous national record of 10.26 seconds which was in the name of Amiya Kumar Mallick of Odisha, set in 2016.

 

12) Maharashtra govt approves to establish Independent ST Commission

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde approved to establish an Independent Scheduled Tribes Commission for Maharashtra on the lines of the Central Government.
  • The proposal was approved in the State Tribal Advisory Council meeting held in Mumbai.
  • Along with this, various issues like reorganization of scheduled areas of the state, and other issues were discussed in the meeting.
