1) Bhuvneshwar Kumar becomes 1st to to bowl 500 dot balls in the T20s
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar has become the first bowler in T20 history to bowl 500 dot balls.
- He achieved the feat in a match against England.
- He has a comprehensive lead in the dot balls tally in T201s with Samuel Badree (383), Tim Southee (368) and Mitchell Starc (354) below him.
- Bhuvneshwar gave India a perfect start defending 171.
2) City Union Bank, Shriram General Insurance sign agreement
- City Union Bank and Shriram General Insurance have signed a corporate agency agreement.
- The bank will distribute the latter’s insurance products through its network of 727 branches across India.
- Under this agreement, Shriram General Insurance will offer personal lines of insurance products such as motor, personal accident, home and travel, along with commercial lines of insurance products.
3) Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence (Coe) launched by IAF
- The IAF Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence under the aegis of UDAAN, was inaugurated on 10 July 2022 at Air Force Station Rajokri, New Delhi.
- A Big Data Analytics and Al Platform has been commissioned in the IAF’s Al Centre.
- It will handle all aspects of analytics, machine learning, natural language processing, neural networks and deep learning algorithms.
4) Unemployment rate rises to 7.8% in June 2022
- The country’s unemployment rate has shot up at 7.80 per cent in June 2022 with the loss of 13 million jobs, mainly in the agriculture sector.
- The data was released by economic think-tank Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).
- The massive fall in number of jobs was triggered by higher unemployment rate in rural areas, which went up to 8.03 per cent from 6.62 per cent in May 2022.
5) I&B Secretary Apurva Chandra unveils new logo of ‘Prasar Bharati’
- Information and Broadcasting (I&B) secretary Apurva Chandra on 11 July 2022 unveiled the new logo of the country’s Public Service Broadcaster, ‘Prasar Bharati!
- In the new logo, the map of India signifies the service of trust, security and perfection to the nation.
- Its blue colour represents both sky and sea which is associated with freedom & inspiration.

6) ‘Father of Indian Internet’ B K Syngal passes away
- Brijendra K Syngal, former Chairman of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), passed away on 9 July 2022 at the age of 82.
- He is referred to as the ‘father of the internet in India.’
- Syngal left satellite communications company Inmarsat to take charge of VSNL in 1991.
- Under his watch, VSNL rolled out India’s internet service and launched its then biggest global depository receipt issue.
7) Dwarka Expressway to be the first elevated urban highway in India
- Dwarka Expressway is being developed as the first elevated urban expressway in India.
- The expressway will connect Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana.
- It is being developed at a total cost of 9,000 crore rupees with a total length of 29 km.
- It is also popularly known as the Northern Peripheral Road.
- It will open to traffic in 2023 and relieve congestion on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.
8) Mumbai’s CSMT becomes 1st station to have augmented reality experience
- The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai has become the 1st railway station in India to be equipped with augmented reality screens.
- This technology will allow passengers at the station to get a real-time digitised timetable with a dedicated scrolling screen & railway information for an engaging experience.
- This project is aimed at generating revenue for the Central Railway.
9) Brajesh Upadhyay appointed as the new chief of Goa Shipyard Limited
- The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has appointed Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Goal Shipyard Limited (GSL).
- Upadhyay is currently serving as Director (Operations) in the GSL.
- He joined GSL as a trainee manager in 1991.
- GSL is a Miniratna Public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Defence.
- Goa Shipyard Limited founded in – 1957
10) Union Bank of India launches virtual banking lounge on Metaverse
- Union Bank of India on 8 July 2022 launched a Metaverse-based virtual lounge – Uni-verse, where it will showcase its products to customers virtually.
- It is the first Indian bank to open a virtual shop for publicity.
- In the initial phase, Uni-verse will host the bank’s product information and videos.
- Union Bank has launched this virtual lounge initiative in partnership with Tech Mahindra.
11) Former Angolan president José Dos Santos passes away
- Angola’s longest-serving president, Jose Eduardo dos Santos passed away on 8 July ’22 at the age of 79.
- He was president of Angola from 1979 to 2017.
- Following the death of the first president of Angola, Agostinho Neto in 1979, Santos became president at the age of 37.
- He fought Africa’s longest civil war & turned Africa into a major oil producer.

12) RBI unveils rupee settlement system for international trade
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 11 July 2022 unveiled a rupee settlement system for international trade.
- It aims to promote growth of global trade with emphasis on exports from India & to support the increasing interest of global trading community in Indian Rupee.
- This new mechanism will enable Indian exporters to receive advance payment against exports from overseas importers in rupees.
13) 94 year old Bhagwani Devi bags gold at WMA Championships in Finland
- 94-year-old Bhagwani Devi Dagar on 10 July 2022 won the gold medal in the 100m sprint at the 2022 World Masters Athletics Championships held in Finland.
- She completed the 100m distance in 24.74 seconds.
- She also won a bronze medal for the country in the shot put event.
- World Masters Athletics Championships is an event for athletics (track and field) for athletes aged 35 years and over.
14) HAL & Safran ink pact to develop new helicopter engines
- Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed an MoU to develop helicopter engines.
- Under this agreement, both the companies will establish a new aero-engine company in India, dedicated to the development, production, sales & support of helicopter engines.
- One of its main objectives will be to meet the requirements of HAL and Ministry of Defence’s future helicopters.
15) Rajendra Prasad assumes the charge of MD of NHSRCL
- Rajendra Prasad has assumed the charge of Managing Director, National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited in addition to his duties as Director Project, NHSRCL.
- He is working as Director Project with NHSRCL since November 2017.
- NHSRCL was incorporated in 2016 to manage the High Speed Rail Corridor in India.
- It is headquartered in New Delhi.
16) India will surpass China as the most populous country: UN report
- India will surpass China as the most populous country on earth in 2023, according to a UN report.
- The World Population Prospects 2022 by the UN Dept of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, said that the global population is projected to reach 8 billion by Nov 2022, around 8.5 billion in 2030, and 9.7 billion in 2050.
- World’s population is growing at its slowest pace since 1950.
17) Renowned archaeologist Padmashree Enamul Haque passes away
- Eminent archaeologist, historian and former Director-General of the Bangladesh National Museum Dr. Enamul Haque passed away in July 2022.
- He was conferred with Padma Shri for the year 2020 for his work on Bengal’s Iconography and terracotta art.
- He is credited with finding and protecting several invaluable sculptures from various archaeological sites in Bangladesh.
