1) Delhi was India’s most Ppolluted city in 2022: Report

  • Delhi was the most polluted city in India in 2022 with PM 2.5 levels more than double the safe limit and the third-highest average PM10 concentration, as per the report by NCAP Tracker.
  • Among the most polluted cities with respect to PM2.5 levels, Haryana’s Faridabad ranked second and UP’s Ghaziabad third.
  • In 2021, Ghaziabad was the most polluted with respect to PM 2.5 levels.

 

2) RRR wins Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu at Golden Globes

  • SS Rajamouli’s film RRR won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, one of the two categories it was nominated in.
  • It was also nominated in the Best Non-English Language Film which was won by ‘Argentina 1985:
  • RRR has already won other international honours including Best Director for Rajamouli at the New York Film Critics Circle awards.

 

3) Aspirational Block Programme

  • It is a development initiative aimed at improving the performance of areas that are lagging on various development parameters.
  • It was launched by PM Modi on 7 Jan 2023.
  • It will cover 500 districts across 31 states and UTS.
  • The ranking of the Aspirational Blocks combines the innovative use of data with pragmatic administration.
  • It is based on the Aspirational District Programme (ADP).

 

4) Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ nominated for Oscars 2023

  • Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been shortlisted for Oscars 2023.
  • Actors Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborthy, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi are also shortlisted for the best actor category.
  • Rishabh Shetty’s ‘Kantara’, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, Paan Nalin’s ‘The Chello Show’ and SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ have also been selected for the Oscars.

 

5) Dr Tehemton E. Udwadia “Father of laparoscopic surgery” passes away

  • Dr Tehemton E. Udwadia, an Indian Surgeon and Gastroenterologist, who was known as the ‘father of laparoscopic surgery in India’ passed away on 8 Jan’23.
  • He was the 1st surgeon in India to introduce laparoscopy in surgery in 1972, and the 1st to perform laparoscopic surgery in the developing world in 1990.
  • In 2002, he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contributions to the field of medicine.

 

6) Virat Kohli equals Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most hundreds

  • Cricketer Virat Kohli recorded the first century by an Indian in 2023 against Sri Lanka on 10 January 2023.
  • Kohli’s 45th ODI ton helped him equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most centuries (20 centuries) at home in ODI cricket.
  • Kohli smashed 20 tons in his 99th innings at home.
  • Virat also surpassed Sachin’s record of most ODI hundreds against Sri Lanka by an Indian batter.

8) DRDO develops UAV for operations in Himalayan frontier regions

  • The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in January 2023 to carry out logistic operations in the Himalayan frontier.
  • It is capable of flying in the Himalayan environment with 5kg of payload and even dropping bombs in the areas required.
  • It can also travel in auto mode and release payload and return to the home location.

 

9) India successfully carries out test launch of Prithvi-Il missile

  • India on 10 January 2023 successfully carried out a test launch of the tactical ballistic missile Prithvi-II.
  • The Prithvi-II missile has a range of around 350 kilometers.
  • The test was carried out from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
  • Prithvi missiles are indigenously produced and are the first missile to be developed under India’s prestigious IGMDP program.

 

10) Know About: Prithvi-II Missile

  • Prithvi-II is an indigenously developed Surface-to-Surface Missile Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM).
  • It has a range of around 250 km-350km and can carry a one tonne payload.
  • Prithvi II class is a single-stage liquid-fueled missile that has warhead mounting capability of 500 kg-1000kg.
  • Its development began in 1983, and it was India’s first indigenous ballistic missile.

 

11) Chhattisgarh CCI organizes its 63rd annual conference in Raipur

  • The 63rd annual conference of the Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industrial (CCI) was organized at Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 10 January 2023.
  • Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel attended the program as a chief guest.
  • The state government has given over Rs 1.5 lakh crores to farmers through the purchase of paddy in the last four years.

13) Sudarsan Pattnaik builds world’s largest hockey stick in Odisha

  • Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik built the world’s largest hockey sculpture on the banks of the Mahanadi river in Cuttack, Odisha.
  • He built a 105-feet long hockey stick, using 5000 hockey balls.
  • He has also been awarded Padma Shri in 2014, for his contribution to sand art.
  • He also holds the Guinness Record (2017) for building the tallest sand castle at 48 feet.
