1) Adani Group proposes 41,653 crore alumina refinery in Odisha

  • Government has approved 10 industrial projects worth 74,620.18 crores including a 4 million tonne per annum capacity alumina refinery proposed by Adani Enterprises Ltd.
  • The Adani group is planning to invest 41,653 crore for the alumina refinery and 175 megawatt capacity captive power plant (CPP) at Kashipur of Rayagada district.
  • Odisha possesses more than half of India’s bauxite reserve.

 

2) RBI issues guidelines to regulate digital lending

  • RBI released first set of guidelines for digital lending following the recommendations of a Working Group on Digital Lending (WGDL).
  • As per new norms, all loan disbursals & repayments will be required to be executed only between the bank accounts of the borrower and the Regulated Entities (RE) without any pass-through or pool account of the Lending Service Providers (LSP) or any 3rd party.

 

3) Cabinet approves India-Australia pact to promote co-production of film

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of an audio-visual co-production treaty between. India & Australia with the view to promote the co-production of films.
  • These are umbrella agreements under which. private, quasi-government or governmental agencies enter contracts to produce films together.
  • India has, so far, signed 15 audio-visual co-production treaties with foreign countries.

 

4) Union Minister Parshottam Rupala launches ‘Fish and Seafood’ book

  • Minister of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Parshottam Rupala on 10 August 2022 launched a unique coffee table book titled ‘Fish & Seafood -a collection of 75 gourmet recipes’ in New Delhi.
  • The Department of Fisheries has come up with this initiative to boost the domestic consumption of fish and seafood, along with popularizing the local fish species.

 

5) Cricketer Rishabh Pant appointed as brand ambassador of Uttarakhand

  • Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on 11 August 2022 named cricketer Rishabh Pant as the brand ambassador of the state.
  • Pant was born in Roorkee in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district.
  • He plays as a middle-order wicket-keeper-batter for the Indian cricket team.
  • In IPL, he represents Delhi Capitals and is captain of the team.
  • Uttarakhand Capital: Gairsain (summer), Dehradun (winter)

 

6) Navi Mutual Fund launches India’s First Manufacturing Index Fund

  • Navi Mutual Fund has launched its 6th fund for 2022, the Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund.
  • This is India’s 1st open-ended index fund that will seek to replicate the Nifty India Manufacturing Index, which tracks the performance of manufacturers among the top 300 companies in India.
  • It aims to simplify investing in the Indian manufacturing sector.
  • Navi Group Founded: 2018

 

7) Meghalaya to host 2nd edition of North East Olympics from 30th October

  • Meghalaya will host the upcoming 2nd edition of the North East Olympics from 30 October to 6 November 2022 in Shillong.
  • The 1st edition of the Games was held in Manipur in 2018, with 12 disciplines.
  • In this edition, about 4,000 participants from 8 North Eastern states will compete in 18 disciplines at 13 venues spread across Shillong.

8) International Youth Day: 12 August

  • International Youth Day is commemorated every year on 12 August.
  • It is celebrated to spread awareness about the role of young people in tackling global issues and achieving sustainable development.
  • International Youth Day was designated by the United Nations in 1999 & was first observed on 12 August, 2000.
  • Theme 2022: “Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a world for all ages”

 

9) Union Cabinet approves extension of PMAY-Urban till December 2024

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) till December 2024.
  • This scheme is one of the major flagship programmes being implemented by the Central Government to provide pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries in the urban areas of the country.
  • It was launched in 2015 & the original deadline for the scheme was March 2022.

 

10) Justice U U Lalit appointed as 49th Chief Justice of the country

  • President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Uday Umesh Lalit as the 49th Chief Justice of India (CJI).
  • He will succeed Justice N V Ramana, who will retire on 26 August 2022.
  • Justice Lalit was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court in 2014.
  • He will become the second CJI to be directly elevated to the Supreme Court from the Bar, after Justice S.M. Sikri, who served as the 13th CJI in 1971.
