DAILY DOSE 12TH APRIL CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) Maha to observe Savarkar’s birthday as ‘Swatantraveer Gaurav Din’
- Maharashtra Government has announced that the birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, which falls on May 28, will be observed as ‘Swatantraveer Gaurav Din’.
- It will also highlight Savarkar’s contribution to India’s freedom movement, propagate his ideology, and focus on his campaigns for social reforms.
- He was born in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, on 28th May 1883.
2) Justice AK Singh appointed new Chief Justice of Tripura High Court
- The Union govt, on 11 April 2023, appointed Justice Apresh Kumar Singh as Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.
- He replaced Justice T Amarnath Goud, who was the acting chief justice of Tripura High Court since November 2022.
- Tripura High Court was established on 23 March 2013, after making amendments to the Constitution of India and the North-Eastern Areas Act, of 1971.
3) World Parkinson’s Day: 11 April
- World Parkinson’s Day is observed annually on April 11 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. James Parkinson.
- He is the first physician to recognize Parkinson’s as a medical condition.
- The European Parkinson’s Disease Association (EPDA) and the World Health Organization established World Parkinson’s Day on April 11th, 1997.
- The theme for World Parkinson’s Day 2023 is “#Take6forPD”.
4) Uzbekistan invites India’s EC to witness April 30 referendum
- Uzbekistan, on 11 April 2023, announced to organize a referendum in the country on April 30 to reform the Constitution.
- It will include a proposal to enable President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to run for another term in office.
- Uzbekistan has also invited India’s Election Commission to witness the referendum.
- It is aimed at creating a strong parliament as well as an independent and fair judiciary.
5) India’s first semi-high speed regional rail service named ‘RAPIDX’
- The National Capital Regional Transportation Corporation (NCRTC), on 11 April 2023, announced that the rapid rail between Delhi and Meerut will be called RapidX.
- The green leaf symbol is the highlight of the brand’s commitment to decarbonization.
- It will be 82 km long and NCRTC will commission the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor for the public by 2025.
6) Centre launches unified portal of Central Bureau of Narcotics
- Union govt, on 11 April 2023, launched the unified portal of the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN).
- It will instill efficiency and transparency and reduce the time taken by the pharma industry to get a trade license.
- Applicants may file applications from anywhere and anytime 24X7 basis eliminating the need for physical interaction and can raise queries with the department.
7) Education ministry to organise Young Authors Conference on April 12-13
- The Ministry of Education will organize a Young Authors’ Conference on 12-13 April 2023 in New Delhi.
- National Book Trust under the Ministry of Education, has been appointed as the implementing agency for the conference.
- It aims to promote civilizational dialogue among the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) members, with a focus on perspectives from young scholars.
8) Garuda Aerospace becomes first to receive Agri Drone Subsidy
- Garuda Aerospace, on 11 April 2023, became the first drone company to receive Agri Drone Subsidy for their agricultural drones.
- This subsidy is part of the Indian government’s efforts to promote the use of agricultural drones.
- The Kisan Drones were given to 8 farmers under the Agri-drone subsidy.
- Govt is providing subsidies to promote the use of drone technology in the agriculture sector.
9) RBI issues framework for acceptance of green deposits by banks
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on 11 April 2023, announced the framework for acceptance of Green Deposits of regulated entities (RE).
- A Green Deposit means an interest-bearing deposit, received by the regulated entities for a fixed period, and the proceeds of which are earmarked for being allocated towards green finance.
- The framework shall come into effect from June 1, 2023.
10) New frog species found in Meghalaya cave
- Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered a new species of frog from deep inside a cave in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district.
- The team named the new species as Amolops siju after the cave from where this discovery was made.
- The team had also discovered three other new species of cascade frog (Amolops) in Arunachal Pradesh.
11) Madhya Pradesh’s Gond painting gets Gl tag
- The famous Gond painting of Madhya Pradesh has received the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag on 11 April 2023.
- The NRLM (National Rural Livelihood Mission) and NULM (National Urban Livelihood Mission) have decided to bring the painting in a cheap model.
- GI Tag ensures that no one other than the registered authorised user is allowed to use the name of the popular product.
