1) President Murmu to be on 2-day visit to UP
- President Droupadi Murmu will be on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh.
- The President will grace the 45th convocation of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith at Varanasi.
- President Murmu will also grace the 27-year celebration of the Divine Heart Foundation (India) at Lucknow.
- The President will grace the 2nd convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Lucknow.
2) Lucknow second among 4 U.P. cities with most road mishap deaths
- Lucknow is among seven UP cities, which have a population of over 10 lakh, road accidents reported in Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur and Prayagraj have been the most fatal, suggests the recently released data of the National Crime Records Bureau of 2022.
- In the number of fatalities in road accidents, UP stands top on the list, followed by Tamil Naidu and Maharashtra.
3) India to host four-day 27th WAIPA World Investment Conference
- India to host four-day 27th WAIPA World Investment Conference in New Delhi from 11th December 2023.
- The World Investment Conference is being held in India for the 1st time.
- National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of the Government of India, and World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies are organizing the conference at the India International Convention & Expo Centre.
4) 11 December – International Mountain Day
- The United Nations headquarters in New York launched the International Year of Mountains on December 11, 2001.
- On December 20, 2002, the UN designated December 11 as International Mountain Day.
- The first International Mountain Day was then observed on December 11, 2003.
- The theme for 2023 is Restoring Mountain Ecosystems.
5) First State to receive: 18 New Products of Uttarakhand gets GI Tag
- CM Pushkar Singh Dhami distributed GI certificates for 18 products of the State.
- This includes Uttarakhand Chaulai, Jhangora, Mandua, red rice, Almora Lakhori Mirch, Berinag tea, Burans Sherbat, Ramnagar-Nainital litchi, Ramgarh peach, Malta, Pahadi Tor, Gahat, Kala Bhatt, Bicchubuti fabric, Nainital candles, Kumaoni coloured Pichoda, Chamoli Ramman mask and Likhai wood carving.
6) DARPG launches scheme and web-portal for NAeG
- Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances DARPG has launched the scheme and web-portal for National Awards for e-Governance NAeG.
- The objective of the Scheme is to recognize and promote excellence in the implementation of e-Governance initiatives.
- This year 16 Awards are being conferred under the NAeG-2024.
7) Thierry Delaporte, highest paid CEO in India
- Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte emerged as the highest paid CEO in India, as per his salary package listed in the company filings for FY23.
- Delaporte was born in France and has an three decades of experience in the global IT sector.
- Zerodha founders Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath emerged as the highest-paid CEO and director of a startup firm, drawing in a salary of ₹72 crore.
8) Tribal Leader Vishnu Deo Sai Is New Chhattisgarh Chief Minister
- Vishnu Deo Sai – tribal leader and former Union Minister – is the BJP’s pick as the next Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
- The four-term MP — who has been the president of the Chhattisgarh unit of the party from 2020 to 2022 — is known for his organisational capability and has a non-controversial image.
- The BJP won 54 seats in the 90-member Assembly in the recently held assembly election.
9) China starts up world’s first fourth-generation nuclear reactor
- China has launched the world’s first commercial operations of a fourth-generation gas-cooled nuclear reactor power plant in eastern Shandong province, the Shidao Bay plant.
- Unlike conventional reactors, this plant utilizes small modular reactors (SMRs), which are high-temperature reactors cooled by gas instead of pressurized water.
- SMRs are considered more efficient and cost-effective.
10) 11 December – UNICEF Day
- Annually observed on December 11, UNICEF Foundation Day stands as a poignant celebration, marking the establishment of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on this date in 1946.
- At its core, UNICEF is dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of children worldwide.
- The focus of UNICEF’s World Children’s Day in 2023 revolves around the theme “For every child, every right.”
11) GI tags for Meghalaya products
- Meghalaya’s Lakadong turmeric, along with Garo dakmanda, Larnai pottery, and Garo chubitchi, has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
- Lakadong turmeric: High curcumin content (6.8 to 7.5%).
- Garo dakmanda: The traditional dress worn by Garo tribes.
- Larnai Pottery: Artisanal black pottery from Jaintai Hills.
- Garo Chubitchi: Rice-based alcoholic beverage.
12) Amit Shah chairs Eastern Zonal Council meeting in Patna
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 26th Eastern Zonal Meeting in Patna.
- Addressing the representatives of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha Mr. Shah appealed to all members to work with the spirit of cooperative federalism for all-round development.
13) Govt makes air-conditioned truck cabin mandatory from Oct 2025
- All new trucks manufactured on or after October 1, 2025, must be equipped with AC cabins for drivers, as the Road Transport and Highways Ministry has issued a notification for mandating air-conditioned truck cabins.
- The testing of the cabin fitted with an air-conditioning system shall be as per IS14618:2022.
