1) India, Tanzania sign MoUs in maritime sector, sports
- India and Tanzania signed multiple MoUs to enhance cooperation in various sectors.
- The MoUs covered digital transformation, maritime sector, sports, and cultural exchange.
- The Sports Authority of India and Tanzania signed an MoU on cooperation in the field of sports.
- Cochin Shipyard Ltd. and Marine Services Co. Ltd signed an MoU on Cooperation in the Maritime Industry.
2) UK CM launches ‘Rozgar Prayag Portal’ at Uttarakhand Youth Mahotsav
- Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the ‘Rozgar Prayag Portal’ to provide employment opportunities for the youth in the state.
- The ‘Yuva Uttarakhand App’ was also launched to make government schemes easily accessible to the youth.
- The Rozgar Prayag portal simplifies the application process for outsourcing posts in government departments.
3) RBI raises monetary ceiling of gold loans for UCBs
- In order to remove difficulties faced by the Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs), the Reserve Bank of India ( RBI ) has raised the monetary ceiling of gold loans for UCBs from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
- The move will strengthen cooperatives and treat them on par with other economic entities.
- The increase in the ceiling is applicable to UCBs who have met their overall PSL target as of March 31.
4) Cricket set to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
- Cricket is set to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
- The decision will be officially announced after the International Olympic Committee’s 141st session in Mumbai on 15 October 2023.
- The Olympics had earlier hosted cricket in 1900 when England played France in a single match to decide the gold medal.
- In LA in 2028, there will be a T20 men’s and women’s tournament.
5) UP CM Yogi Adityanath unveils freedom fighter Raja Rao statue in Unnao
- Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath unveiled the equestrian statue of freedom fighter Raja Rao Rambaksh Singh in Daundiyakheda village of UP’s Unnao district.
- He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 804 crore.
- Unnao is a large industrial city with three industrial suburbs around it.
- Unnao has the country’s largest leather Export in the UPSIDC.
6) IOC and Reliance Foundation sign agreement to advance Olympic values
- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Reliance Foundation have signed a cooperation agreement to promote Olympic values among young people in India.
- The partnership aims to bring the Olympic values of respect, friendship, fair play, and solidarity across the state of Maharashtra.
- The OVEP program combines sports and education to impact the school-going children in India.
7) Govt introduces SHRESHTA scheme for SC category students
- Union govt has launched the “Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas” (SHRESHTA) to promote education and socio-economic development of Scheduled Castes (SCs) in India.
- It aims to expand the reach of government development initiatives in SC-dominant areas within the education sector.
- The scheme envisions the socio-economic upliftment of SC students.
8) UAE chairs 2023 International Conference on Climate Change
- The UAE is chairing the 2023 International Conference on Climate Change and Nuclear Energy from 9th to 13th October.
- The conference aims to provide a platform for Member States to exchange information on the role of nuclear energy.
- The event is organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
- The UAE will host COP28 from 30 November to 12 December 2023 in Dubai Expo City.
9) Iran’s Shadloui becomes costliest player in Pro Kabaddi League auction
- Iran’s Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh emerged as the costliest player in history of Pro Kabaddi League auction after he was bought for Rs 2.35 crore by Puneri Paltan.
- India’s Maninder Singh was roped in by Bengal Warriors for Rs 2.12 crore.
- A total of 137 matches will be played in the 10th edition of Pro Kabaddi League. As many as 132 league stage matches will be played during the event.
10) Jitendra Singh addresses 10th “India-Sweden Innovation Day” meet
- Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh addresses the 10th ” India-Sweden Innovation Day” meeting on 9 October 2023.
- Both countries are commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the fifth anniversary of the Sweden-India Joint Declaration on Innovation Partnership.
- The event aims to harness respective areas of expertise to spearhead environmentally sustainable growth.
11) India and France forge deeper ties at Indian Space Conclave 2023
- The Indian Space Association (ISpA) and the French Aerospace Industries Association (GIFAS) signed an MoU to enhance the understanding of space industry capabilities at the second chapter of the Indian Space Conclave 2023.
- The MoU will strengthen industry collaboration in France and India.
- The partnership will facilitate academic and educational program exchanges between both organizations.
12) World Mental Health Day: 10 October
- World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10th every year.
- It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues.
- It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization.
- The theme for the World Mental Health Day 2023 is ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right.’
13) Shubhi Gupta Wins U-19 Girls National Chess Championship
- Shubhi Gupta won the U-19 Girls’ National Chess Championship 2023 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
- Shubhi is an integral member of the Cohort sponsored and supported by the esteemed Pravaha Foundation as part of their laudable Initiative, “64 Squares.”
- The “64 Squares” initiative encompasses a group of immensely talented chess players, spanning various age groups and levels of expertise.
14) Parshottam Rupala to inaugurate 16th Agri Science Congress on 10 Oct
- The 16th Agricultural Science Congress will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala in Kochi on 10 October 2023.
- The Congress aims to generate a scientific discourse around transforming India’s agri-food systems into sustainable enterprises.
- The Congress will discuss 10 thematic areas, including issues related to agriculture.
