  • Józef Piłsudski, Polish revolutionary declared Poland an independent state.
  • Angola declared independence after the Portuguese withdrew.
  • Washington was admitted to the union as the 42nd U.S. state.

 

1) India-Australia JWG Meeting on Cooperation in Water Resources held

  • The 6th India-Australia Joint Working Group Meeting on Water Cooperation between Ministry of Jal Shakti, GoI and Department of Climate Change, Government of Australia was held.
  • The event brought both Indian and Australian Governments for a productive discussion on enhancing cooperation in water sector and charting the way forward with respect to various ongoing and proposed activities.

 

2) India’s tourism made great presence at World Travel Market, London

  • “Incredible India,”wrapped up its impressive presence at World Travel Market 2023 with resounding success, solidifying India’s position as a must-visit global destination.
  • WTM 2023, held from 6 to 8 November 2023 provided “Incredible India” with a unique platform to showcase the country’s diverse tourism products under the theme of ‘Visit India 2023.’

 

3) Ministry of Heavy Industries launched ‘Annual Capacity Building Plan’

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited under the aegis of Ministry of Heavy Industries successfully organised “BHEL SAMVAAD 3.0.
  • In this mega-event,  Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for  Heavy Industries launched the MHI’s ‘Annual Capacity Building Plan’ for 2023-24 outlining key strategic areas with focused capacity-building initiatives within the Ministry to enhance capability.

 

4) Sikkim becomes the ‘Coolest destination’ to visit in 2024: Nat Geo

  • National Geographic conducted a survey, wherein Sikkim in northeast India has made it to the Coolest Places to Visit in the new year 2024.
  • The list comprises 30 destinations from across the globe and Sikkim is the only Indian destination.
  • While most of the destinations to make it to the list are from Europe, seeing Sikkim as the only Indian place brings in a sense of happiness.

 

5) India and Nepal border forces join hands to combat crime

  • Border forces of India and Nepal have expressed their commitment to strengthen bilateral security efforts by focussing on curbing trans-border crimes, smuggling of arms and ammunition, and combating human trafficking.
  • The decision was taken in the seventh annual Co-ordination Meeting between Sashastra Seema Bal of India and Armed Police Force of Nepal.

 

6) REC signs MoU with RailTel to boost Telecom, IT and Railway Signalling

  • REC Limitedsigned an MoU with RailTel to extend financial assistance upto Rs. 30,000 Crore for Infrastructure Projects to be executed by RailTel in next 5 years.
  • These projects encompass a wide range of areas, including Data Center products and services, Telecom & IT products and services, Railways & Metro projects, and the KAVACH Train Collision Prevention System.

 

7) G20 Thematic Workshop on Nari Shakti: Towards Women-Led Development

  • A workshop on the theme of Nari Shakti: Towards Women-led Development, emanating from the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration 2023, was held on 8 November 2023 atNew Delhi.
  • It was organized by NITI Aayogin collaboration with Institute of What Works to Advance Gender Equality.
  • This workshop was part of the series of thematic workshops steered and anchored by the NITI Aayog.

 

8) Bihar Assembly unanimously passed the Reservation Amendment Bill

  • Bihar Assembly passed the amendment bill related to increasing the quota of reservation in the state government jobs for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Extremely Backward Caste and other Backward Castes from 50 % to 65% .
  • The bill has proposed a reservation quota in which the BCs would get 18 per cent quota, EBCs 25 per cent, Scheduled Castes 20 per cent and Scheduled Tribes 2 per cent.

 

9) IARI develops Pusa-2090 paddy variety to tackle stubble burning

  • Amid the challenges of paddy stubble burning and air pollution in Delhi- NCR region, theIndian Agricultural Research Institute, Delhi has developed a high-yielding short-duration variety namely Pusa-2090.
  • It is an improved version of currently used Pusa-44. Pusa-2090 variety matures in only 120 to 125 days as compared to Pusa-44  which takes 155 to 160 days to mature.

 

10) Centre advises White Goods manufacturers to initiate warranty services

  • Centre has urged manufacturers of white goods such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines, to start warranty or guarantee period from date of installation.
  • Ministry said, white goods involve installation by trained technicians and consumers are unable to use such goods until they are correctly installed in the premises.
  • This is a step to prevent the unfair trade practices.

 

11) CJI Chandrachud launched Legal Awareness Program

  • Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud stressed on ‘Right to Legal Aid.’
  • He has launched Legal Awareness Program and also upgraded NALSA Helpline for making the legal institutions more accessible and affordable.
  • Mr Chandrachud said that the ‘Right to Legal Aid’ was not given at the birth of the Constitution but it came in by the enactment of Article 39A after the legal aid movement.

 

12) India Observes National Ayurveda Day on Dhanteras

  • India observes the National Ayurveda Day every year on the occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti or Dhanteras.
  • In 2023, the theme for Ayurveda day-2023 is ‘Ayurveda for One Health’ with Tag line ‘Ayurveda for everyone on every day’ focusing on human-animal-plant-environment interface.”
  • The initiative was started in 2016 with an aim to further promote Ayurveda into mainstream.

 

13) New Delhi files appeal against death sentence to 8 Indians in Qatar

  • External Affairs Ministry has said, further steps are being pursued in the matter of death penalty to eight Indians awarded by a Qatar court and an appeal has been filed.
  • MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the judgement by a Qatar court is confidential and has only been shared with the legal team.
  • He urged everyone not to engage in speculation, considering the sensitive nature of the case.
