1) Pooja Patel becomes first athlete to win Gold in Yogasana
- At the 36th National Games, Pooja Patel of Gujarat has become the first athlete to win gold in Yogasana.
- Pooja won the gold medal in the traditional Yogasana category.
- Yogasana is one of the five sports to be played at the National Games in 2022 for the first time.
- This Indian indigenous sport made its debut at the Khelo India University Games in early 2022.
2) Indian Air Force Day: 8th October
- India observes Air Force Day on 8th October annually to mark the establishment of the Air Force in India.
- The Indian Air Force (IAF) was established in the country on 8th October 1932, by the British Empire.
- In 2022, the IAF will celebrate its 90th Foundation Day with a spectacular parade and fly-past in Chandigarh on 8th Oct.

3) Govt and LIC together to divest 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank
- The Central govt & Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) have decided to sell off their 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank.
- At present, these two own close to 94% in IDBI Bank, of which the Centre has 45.48% stake & LIC has 49.24%.
- As per the details, the Centre will divest a 30.48% stake, while LIC will offload 30.24%.
- This would be the first attempt to privatise a public sector bank in India.
4) Asteria Aerospace receives first micro category drone certification
- Asteria Aerospace Ltd on 6th Oct 2022 received India’s first micro category drone type certification for its indigenously designed A200 drone from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
- This drone has been developed for surveying and mapping applications in agriculture, construction and other industries.
- Drones with weights of 250gm to 2kg fall under the micro category of drones.
5) ICICI Bank launches ‘Smart Wire’ facility
- ICICI Bank on 7th Oct 2022 announced the launch of an online solution named ‘Smart Wire, to help its customers carry out SWIFT-based inward remittances in a faster and hassle-free manner.
- ICICI Bank is the first bank in the country to introduce this faster online solution.
- It allows both NRIs and resident customers to undertake inward remittance transactions in an online and paperless way.
6) EU approves adoption of world’s first single charger rule
- The European Union parliament has passed a new law stating that all new smartphones, tablets and cameras will have a single standard charger.
- This new law will be implemented from late 2024.
- It is expected to save at least 200 million euros ($195 million) per year and cut more than a thousand tonnes of EU electronic waste every year.

7) A Balasubramanian re-elected as AMFI chairman
- A Balasubramanian, MD & CEO of Aditya Birla Sun Life, has been re-elected as the chairman of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
- While Radhika Gupta, MD of Edelweiss, has been re-elected as AMFI’s vice-chairperson.
- AMFI is the association of all the Asset Management Companies (AMCs) of SEBI-registered mutual funds in India.
- Currently, 43 AMCS are its members.
8) World Smile Day: 7th October
- World Smile Day is observed on the first Friday of October every year.
- In the year 2022, it was celebrated on 7th of October.
- World Smile Day was first observed in 1999 by Harvey Ball.
- Harvey Ball was an artist from Massachusetts, US, who created the smiley face in 1963.
- The theme of World Smile Day remains the same every year – ‘Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile!
9) Ales Bialiatski, Russia’s Memorial and Ukraine’s CCL win Nobel Prize
- Human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski from Belarus, the Russian human rights organisation Memorial, and the Ukrainian human rights. organisation Center for Civil Liberties have won the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.
- Ales Bialiatski of Belarus was one of the initiators of the democracy movement in the country in the 1980s.
- The 2021 Nobel Prize was given to journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov.
10) Know About: Indian Air Force
- The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces.
- It was established on 8 Oct 1932 by the British Empire.
- IAF is the 4th largest air force in the world.
- On 26 January 2002, Arjan Singh became the first and so far, only five-star rank officer of the IAF.

11) Gandhi-Irwin Pact, Part – 2
- Sooner, this movement gained huge popularity & Gandhiji was arrested.
- Lord Irwin wanted to end these movements.
- So, he released Gandhiji & signed an agreement which came to known as the Gandhi-Irwin Pact.
- Certain provisions under this agreement were:
- Discontinuation of the Salt Satyagraha
- Participation by the Congress in the 2nd Round Table Conference
- Removal of the tax on salt
12) Bhupesh Baghel inaugurates Chhattisgarh Olympics
- Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated Chhattisgarh Olympics on 6 October 2022.
- The event will be organized in the state from October 6, 2022 to January 6, 2023.
- 14 types of traditional sports are included in the Olympics in the team and single category.
- Gilli Danda, Pittool, Langdi Run, Banti (Kancha), Billas, Fugdi, and Gedi Race are some of the competitions.
13) Bureau of Indian Standards signs MOU with TIC Council
- Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India has signed an MoU with Testing, Inspection, Certification Council (TIC).
- They will collaborate to promote implementation of standards and quality, safety and sustainability practices in laboratories.
- TIC Council is a global trade association representing independent third-party testing, inspection and certification industry.
14) National Lok Adalat to be held across country on Nov 12
- National Lok Adalat will be held across the country on 12th November 2022 to dispose of pending cases through settlement.
- The Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Ministry has informed that there are about 6,08,000 consumer cases pending in the country.
- More than 1,68,000 pending cases have been identified in insurance, over 71,000 in banking, and over 33,000 in electricity.
15) No charge for RuPay credit card use on UPI for transaction upto ₹2,000
- The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has informed there will be no charge for RuPay credit card use on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for transactions up to €2,000.
- RuPay credit card has been operational for the last four years.
- Nil Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) would apply for this category.
- RBI has also approved linking of RuPay Credit Cards to UPI.
16) Environment Ministry sets up Cheetah Task Force
- The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has constituted a task force to monitor cheetah introduction in Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh.
- The task force is constituted to review progress and monitor the health of cheetah, upkeep of the quarantine, and protection status of entire area.
- It will be in force for a period of two years.
17) South Korea and US begins joint maritime exercises
- South Korea and the United States began joint maritime exercises with a US aircraft carrier on October 7, 2022.
- The maritime drills will take place in waters off South Korea’s east coast on 7-8th of October.
- Both countries will continue to strengthen their operational capabilities to respond to any provocations by North Korea through joint drills.
18) Know About: International Solar Alliance
- The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an alliance of 121 signatory countries.
- The primary objective of the alliance is to work for efficient consumption of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
- This initiative was first proposed by PM Narendra Modi in a speech in November 2015 at Wembley Stadium.
- The initiative was launched by him at the India Africa Summit.
