1) World Space Week: Know About Solar System

  • The solar system consists of our star, the Sun, and everything bound to it by gravity – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, and millions of asteroids and comets.
  • This Solar System is part of the Milky Way galaxy.
  • Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are the inner planets, and Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the outer planets.

2) World Space Week: Know About Our Solar System Part-2

  • Big Bang Theory:
  • It is the idea that the universe began as just a single point, then expanded and stretched to grow as large as it is right now-and it is still stretching.
  • This States the age of the universe as 13.7 billion years.
  • In the year 1931, a Georges Lemaitre proposed the Big Bang Theory who is also known as Father of big Bang theory.

 

3) Know About: UNHCR

  • The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees and stateless people.
  • It was created in 1950 to address the refugee crisis that resulted from WW II.
  • It has won two Nobel Peace Prizes, in 1954 and 1981.

4) 6th edition of India Mobile Congress concludes on 4th Oct 2022

  • The 4-day long, 6th edition of the India Mobile Congress concluded on 4th of Oct 2022 in New Delhi.
  • Some of the highlights of IMC 2022 event are:
  • 5G services launched by PM Narendra Modi.
  • IMC 2022 hosted 362 speakers, 13,500 participants in 80 sessions and over 1.07 lakh visitors.
  • It started on 1st of Oct and concluded on 4th of Oct 2022.
  • It was organised at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

 

5) Yunqing Tang bags SASTRA Ramanujan Prize 2022

  • The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize for 2022 will be awarded to Yunqing Tang, Assistant Professor at the University of California, U.S.
  • The award was instituted by the Shanmughal Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) in 2005 with a cash prize of $10,000.
  • It is presented annually to individuals aged 32 & below, who made outstanding contributions in the field of mathematics.

 

6) President launches startup platform ‘herSTART’ for women entrepreneurs

  • President Droupadi Murmu on 4th Oct 2022 launched ‘herSTART, a startup platform for women entrepreneurs created by Gujarat University in Ahmedabad.
  • This initiative will link women entrepreneurs with various private and govt platforms.
  • The President also inaugurated 5 high schools for tribals & 5 infrastructure projects of the education dept.
  • This is the President’s first visit to Gujarat.

 

7) Rest of India beat Saurashtra to win 2022 Irani Cup

  • Rest of India (ROI) defeated Saurashtra by eight wickets at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, Rajkot, to win the Irani Cup title on 4th Oct 2022.
  • It was the Rest of India’s 29th Irani Trophy title.
  • Irani Cup is a test match format cricket tournament in India.
  • It is played annually between the incumbent Ranji Trophy winner and the Rest of India cricket team.
  • First edition: 1959-60

 

8) Former German chancellor Angela Merkel wins UN refugee prize

  • Former German chancellor Angela Merkel on 4th Oct 2022 won the United Nations refugee agency’s prestigious Nansen Award.
  • She has been awarded for welcoming more than 1.2 million refugees and asylum seekers in Germany in 2015 and 2016.
  • The Nansen Award, awarded annually, was created in 1954 in honour of the first UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Fridtjof Nansen.

9) World Teachers’ Day: 5th October

  • World Teachers’ Day, also known as International Teachers’ Day, is celebrated on 5th October every year.
  • This is a day to celebrate, thank & honour teachers for their contributions to their students.
  • Oct 5 was proclaimed as World Teachers’ Day by UNESCO in 1994.
  • 2022 Theme: “The transformation of education begins with teachers”
  • Teachers’ Day in India is celebrated on 5th Sept every year.
