1) First India-Nepal Bharat Gaurav tourist train flagged off from Delhi

  • The first ‘Bharat Gaurav’ tourist train connecting places associated with the Ramayana Circuit in India and Nepal was flagged off from the Safdarjung railway station in New Delhi on 21 June 2022.
  • Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy flagged off the train.
  • This is the first tourist train to cross the India-Nepal international border.

 

2) Assam becomes the 36th State to implement ‘One Nation One Ration Card’

  • Assam has become the 36th State to implement the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ (ONORC) scheme.
  • With this, the ONORC plan is successfully implemented in all 36 states/UTs, making food security portable throughout the country.
  • ONORC is aimed at enabling migrant workers to seamlessly lift their entitled subsidized foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop of their choice anywhere in the country.

 

3) India ranks 4th in gold recycling with refining capacity of 1,800 ton

  • India ranked 4th, behind China, Italy, and US, in global gold recycling in 2021, according to a report by the World Gold Council.
  • The report estimated that from 2013 to 2021, India’s gold refining capacity increased by 1,500 tonnes, or 500%, to 1,800 tonnes.
  • Over the past five years, 11% of the country’s gold supply came from ‘old gold!
  • The report was titled ‘Gold refining and recycling!

 

4) AIIMS develops anti-gravity body suit for yoga in space

  • Experts at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-Delhi) have developed an anti-gravity body suit.
  • It will allow astronauts to perform yoga in space.
  • It will help astronauts strengthen muscles and prevent loss of bone density minerals.
  • This is India’s first bodysuit for astronauts and will increase their weight by more than 70% in space to prevent them from floating.

 

5) Summer Solstice: 21 June 2022

  • Summer Solstice was observed on 21 June 2022.
  • According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the summer solstice or the June solstice is the green light to welcome the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere and winter season in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • It is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere or the day with the longest period of daylight.

 

6) Dept. of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare to collaborate with SBI

  • The Centre’s Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) will collaborate with the State Bank of India.
  • It will create an integrated pension portal to enhance the ease of living of pensioners.
  • Four awareness programmes will be conducted in collaboration with the State Bank of India to cover the whole country.

 

7) Lisa Sthalekar becomes first woman president of FICA

  • Legendary Australian cricketer Lisa Sthalekar has become the first woman president of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA).
  • She was confirmed in the role at the FICA Executive Committee meeting held in Nyon, Switzerland in June 2022.
  • Sthalekar played 8 Tests, 125 ODIs and 54 T20Is for Australia between 2001 and 2013, finishing her career with a World Cup win.

 

8) World Hydrography Day: 21 June

  • Every year on June 21, World Hydrography Day is celebrated.
  • It was adopted by the International Hydrographic Organization as an annual celebration to publicise the work of hydrographers and the importance of hydrography.
  • The theme for 2022 is: “Hydrography – contributing to the United Nations Ocean Decade”
  • The day was first observed in 2005.

 

9) World Music Day: 21 June

  • World Music Day is observed on 21 June every year.
  • The day was first celebrated as Fete de la Musique in France in the year 1982.
  • It was organized by the then French Minister of Art and Culture, Jack Lange, and a French composer, Maurice Fleuret.
  • The theme for 2022 is “Music on the intersections”
  • In 1997, a charter was signed in Budapest, which internationally recognized this day.

 

10) NDB appoints DJ Pandian to head its India Regional Office in GIFT city

  • New Development Bank (NDB) of the BRICS countries has appointed Dr D.J. Pandian as the Director-General of its India Regional Office in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).
  • Pandian earlier served as the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
  • NDB Headquarters – Shanghai, China.
  • NDB founded – 15 July 2014

 

11) Indian Navy signs MoU with Directorate General of Shipping

  • An MoU has been signed between the Directorate General of Shipping and the Indian Navy.
  • It has been signed for transition of Indian Navy Personnel to Merchant Navy.
  • It will benefit personnel retiring Indian Navy and provide them with an opportunity to work on Merchant Ships.

 

12) Ruchira Kamboj appointed as India’s Permanent Representative to UN

  • Senior Diplomat Ruchira Kamboj has been appointed as the next Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations.
  • A 1987 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Ruchira Kamboj is presently serving as Ambassador of India to Bhutan.
  • She will succeed TS Tirumurti as the Indian ambassador to the United Nations.

13) PM awards for contribution towards the development of yoga announced

  • The PM’s award for outstanding contribution for the promotion of Yoga has been announced for 2021.
  • Bhikkhu Sanghasena and Marcus Vinicius Rojo Rodrigues have been chosen for the award.
  • Two organizations, The Divine Life Society from Uttarakhand and the British Wheel of Yoga from the UK have also been chosen for it.
  • The award carries a trophy, certificate, and cash award of Rs 25 lakh.

 

14) Jitendra Singh inaugurates the Seismology Observatory in Udhampur

  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on 21 June 2022 inaugurated the Seismology Observatory in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • This is the third such centre that has been set up in J&K by the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
  • A complete seismic record of Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and many other districts will be prepared at the observatory.
