• Neuroscience Research Australia discovered progressive, region-specific changes in brain blood vesselsin Parkinson’s disease.
• Reveals Parkinson’s affects cerebrovascular health, not just neuronal loss or protein buildup.
• Scientists found:
  • Increased string vessels(non-functional capillary remnants).
  • Disrupted blood flow& blood-brain barrier dysfunction.
• Study done with University of New South Wales& University of Sydney; published in Brain
• Targeting vascular changes may slow Parkinson’s progression.
• Researchers assessing similar vascular changes in Alzheimer’sand Lewy body dementias.
• Lewy bodies= abnormal protein aggregates; seen in Parkinson’s, Lewy body dementias, multiple system atrophy.

  • Additional 18 million tonnes freight/year.
