DAILY DOSE 27th  MAY – 2025 CURRENT AFFAIRS

1) Novak Djokovic won his 100th career singles title by defeating Hubert Hurkacz at the Geneva Open.

  • Djokovic won with scores of 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2). This was Djokovic’s first tournament victory in Geneva.
  • Djokovic joined a select group of players with 100 or more titles in the Open era.
  • Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer are the only others with similar achievements.
  • He celebrated the milestone two days after his 38th birthday.

 

2) World Thyroid Day 2025: 25 May

  • Every year, World Thyroid Day is observed on 25 May.
  • It was first observed in 2008 by the American Thyroid Association (ATA) and the European Thyroid Association (ETA).
  • It is observed to raise awareness about the symptoms, prevention, and treatments of thyroid diseases.

 

3) ₹24,000 cr development projects launched by PM Modi in Dahod.                                   

  • On 26 may, multiple development projects worth around ₹24,000 crore were launched and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dahod, Gujarat.
  • He highlighted how modern vehicles and rail components made in India are now exported to countries like England, France, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico.
  • He laid the foundation stone for multiple projects, including new trains and a locomotive manufacturing plant.
  • Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad & an express train between Valsad and Dahod were inaugurated.

 

4) India participated in the 9th BRICS Industry Ministers Meeting in Brasilia.

  • On 21st May 2025, India participated in the 9th BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting, chaired by Brazil, held in Brasília.
  • The theme of the meeting was “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.”
  • Industry ministers and representatives from all BRICS member countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa were present at the meeting.
  • Newly inducted members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were also present.

 

5) The theme of 9th India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, ‘Innovate to Transform’, unveiled by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

  • IMC 2025 will be held from October 8–11 at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi.
  • The event will showcase 1,000+ tech use cases in 5G, 6G, AI, IoT, electronics manufacturing, and green tech.
  • ASPIRE, the flagship startup program launched in 2023, will engage over 500 startups and connect them with over 300 investors, incubators, accelerators, and VCs for mentorship, live pitching sessions, and networking.

 

6) NITI Aayog released a report titled “Designing a Policy for Medium Enterprises”, focusing on their transformative potential.

  • The report was released by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Shri Suman Beri.
  • This report presents a comprehensive roadmap for transforming medium enterprises into the future growth engines of India’s economy.
  • The report highlights the critical but underutilized role played by medium enterprises and outlines targeted strategies to unleash their full potential.
  • The report focuses on the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, which contributes around 29% to India’s GDP, accounts for 40% of exports, and employs over 60% of the workforce.

 

7) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for several development projects worth over ₹53,400 crore in Bhuj, Gujarat.

  • He spoke about Kutch’s transformation into a key center for trade, tourism, and renewable energy.
  • The projects include transmission systems, a supercritical thermal power plant in Tapi, and upgrades to ports, roads, and water infrastructure.
  • Kutch is on track to become the world’s largest hub for green energy, including solar and hydrogen.

 

8) Union Earth Sciences Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the Bharat Forecast System.

  • It is a high-resolution, fully indigenous weather prediction platform.
  • The launch took place at Vigyan Bhawan on May 26, 2025.
  • The system was developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune.
  • It represents a major advancement in India’s weather forecasting technology.

 

9) Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan presented a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the University of Liverpool.

  • The ceremony took place in New Delhi.
  • The University of Liverpool is now the second foreign institution to receive such approval.
  • This approval is granted under the 2023 UGC regulations.
  • These regulations allow foreign universities to establish campuses in India.

 

10) Researchers at the Raman Research Institute (RRI) in Bengaluru have introduced a new technique to reveal hidden quantum properties in exotic materials.

  • They use the spectral function for this purpose. This advancement could accelerate progress in emerging technologies like quantum computing and energy-efficient electronics.
  • Topological materials, such as insulators and superconductors, have unique electronic properties.
  • These properties are essential for future technology development.
  • However, identifying their topological features has been difficult.
