1. Sports: India’s Achievement at the 2025 U20 World Wrestling Championships
- India’s First Gold in Women’s 57kg: Tapasya won India’s first-ever gold at the 2025 U20 World Wrestling Championships in Bulgaria, defeating Felicitas Domajeva of Norway 5-2.
- Other Medals: Srishti won silver in the 68kg category. Sumit Malik secured silver in the men’s 57kg category.
- Previous Year’s Performance: India had won seven medals at the 2024 U20 World Championships in Spain, including one gold, one silver, and five bronze.
2. MoUs/Agreements: India and EAEU Sign FTA Terms of Reference (ToR)
- India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), consisting of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Russia, signed the ToR for Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
- The FTA aims to boost exports, support MSMEs, diversify market access, and strengthen economic ties. Trade turnover between India and the EAEU was 69 billion dollars in 2024.
3. Space & IT: ISRO’s Gaganyaan Mission Test Flights in December
- Gaganyaan Mission: India’s first human spaceflight program, Gaganyaan, will begin with an uncrewed test flight (G1) in December, with Vyommitra (a humanoid robot) onboard.
- ISRO’s Progress: 7,700 out of 10,000 planned tests are completed, with a focus on scientific achievements like GLEX-2025 and a high-thrust electric propulsion system.
4. Health Research: International Public Health Research Meeting in New Delhi
- The Department of Health Research and ICMR hosted an international meeting focused on health research in South and Southeast Asia.
- Delegates from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Timor-Leste discussed research systems, governance, funding, and transparency in public health.
5. Space Science: NASA Discovers Uranus’ 29th Moon
- New Moon of Uranus: A new moon, S/2025 U1, was discovered by NASA’s James Webb Telescope. It has a diameter of 10 kilometers and orbits Uranus at 56,000 kilometers.
- This brings the confirmed moons of Uranus to 29, including smaller moons orbiting major moons like Miranda and Titania.
6. Indian Economy: Approval for Two-Rate GST Proposal
- The Group of Ministers (GoM)has approved the Centre’s proposal for a two-rate GST structure: 5% and 18% (replacing the 12% and 28% slabs).
- Tobacco and online gaming will attract a 40% tax. The reform is aimed at easing the tax burden on MSMEs and households.
7. Indian Polity: Online Gaming Bill, 2025 Passed
- The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025was passed by Parliament, aiming to regulate e-sports and social gaming while banning harmful online money gaming.
- The Bill will create an Online Gaming Authority and impose penalties for violations.
8. Indian Polity: Appointment of Observers for Vice Presidential Election
- The Election Commissionappointed two observers, Sushil Kumar Lohani and D. Anandan, for the Vice Presidential Election scheduled for 9th September.
- Candidates: CP Radhakrishnan (NDA) and B Sudershan Reddy (Opposition INDIA Bloc).
9. Miscellaneous: Tribeny Rai’s Film at Busan International Film Festival
- Shape of Momo, a debut film by Tribeny Rai, has been selected for the Vision Section of the Busan International Film Festival(BIFF) 2025.
- The film will also be screened at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
10. State News: Renaming of Jalalabad, Uttar Pradesh
- The Union Home Ministry approved the renaming of Jalalabadin Uttar Pradesh to Parashurampuri, in honor of the saint Parashuram, as the town is historically linked to him.
