DAILY DOSE 18th SEPT – 2024 CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) Cyber Commandos:
- The Central government announced the plan to train and prepare 5,000 ‘Cyber Commandos’ over the next five years to tackle the rising cybercrime threats.
- This announcement was made during the first Foundation Day celebration of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
- I4C is a national-level coordination centre for addressing cybercrime issues.
- These cyber commandos will be trained in IT infrastructure security, digital forensics, and incident response.
2) 20th Maritime State Development Council:
- The 20th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) concluded recently in Goa with significant advancements in India’s maritime sector.
- This event brought together stakeholders from the Central Government, States, and Union Territories to resolve over 80 issues, focusing on port modernisation, maritime infrastructure, connectivity, and regulatory frameworks.
- Key Highlights of the 20th MSDC:
- The MSDC launched the National Safety in Ports Committee (NSPC) application on the National Single Window System platform to streamline regulatory processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs for maritime sector stakeholders through real-time performance monitoring and enhanced information sharing.
3) WorldSkills 2024 competition:
- The WorldSkills 2024 competition in Lyon, France, witnessed a remarkable performance by the Indian contingent, showcasing the country’s growing prowess in various skill domains on the international stage.
- India Clinched 4 Bronze medals and 12 Medallions of Excellence.
4) NPS Vatsalya Scheme:
- The NPS Vatsalya Scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, will be launched by Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman on September 18, 2024, in New Delhi.
- This initiative allows parents to invest in pension accounts for their children with flexible contributions starting at Rs. 1,000 annually, offering long-term wealth building through compounding.
5) Jordan’s King Appoints New Prime Minister After Parliamentary Elections:
- Jordan’s King Abdullah II has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh following last week’s parliamentary elections.
- Al-Khasawneh, a seasoned diplomat who had been in office since October 2020, resigned in accordance with the constitutional norm after legislative elections.
6) 8th India Water Week:
- The 8th India Water Week (IWW) will be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on 17th September 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
- This four-day international water resources event, conceptualized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, focuses on the theme “Partnerships and Cooperation for Inclusive Water Development and Management.”
7) Rajbhasha Kirti Award to Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances:
- During Hindi Diwas Celebrations at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, the Secretary of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Mr. V. Srinivas, was awarded the Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar by the Hon’ble Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah.
8) Centre for Rural Enterprise Acceleration through Technology:
- Union Minister for MSME, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, inaugurated the Centre for Rural Enterprise Acceleration through Technology (CREATE) at Leh via virtual mode.
- The event was attended by various dignitaries including the Minister of State for MSMEthe Lieutenant Governor of UT-Ladakh, the Chairman of KVIC, and other officials.
9) MVA-BN vaccine:
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has prequalified the Danish MVA-BN vaccine, making it the first approved vaccine to combat mpox.
- This prequalification facilitates broader and faster access to the vaccine, particularly for high-risk populations, aiming to reduce transmission and contain outbreaks.
- The MVA-BN vaccine, developed by Bavarian Nordic A/S, shows 76% effectiveness with a single dose and 82% with two doses.
- The vaccine can be stored at 2-8°C for up to eight weeks and is recommended for adults over 18.
10) Anusandhan National Research Foundation:
- The first meeting of the governing board of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) was chaired by the Prime Minister.
- It focused on initiatives to enhance India’s research capabilities and establish a strong research culture across institutions.
- Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research (PAIR), the Mission for Advancement in High-impact Areas (MAHA), and ANRF Centres of Excellence (ACE) are planned to be launched during the meeting.
- PAIR aims to foster new partnerships established between top-tier institutions and academic institutions where research capabilities are limited.
- It will operate under a Hub and Spoke framework.
