1) India ranks 132 in UNDP’s Human Development Index 2021

  • India ranked 132 out of 191 countries in the 2021 human development index (HDI), according to a report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
  • Among India’s neighbours, Sri Lanka (73rd), China (79th), Bangladesh (129th) and Bhutan (127th) are ranked above India.
  • Switzerland remained at the top spot, followed by Norway and Iceland.
  • India ranked 131 in the 2020 index.

 

2) NITI Aayog launches India’s first national electric freight platform

  • NITI Aayog, in collaboration with World. Resources Institute (WRI), India, has launched the country’s 1st national electric freight platform e-FAST India (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport).
  • Aim: to raise awareness on freight electrification bolstered by on-ground demonstration pilots & evidence-based research.

3) PhonePe tokenizes 14 million debit and credit cards

  • Fintech platform, PhonePe has tokenized 14 million debit and credit cards on the platform which is in line with the mandatory card tokenization of the RBI.
  • PhonePe began developing tokens in December 2021 in accordance with RBI guidelines.
  • RBI’s deadline for tokenisation of debit and credit cards is September 30.

4) Odisha govt launches rainwater harvesting scheme named ‘CHHATA’

  • The Odisha govt has launched a rainwater harvesting scheme named ‘Community Harnessing and Harvesting Rainwater Artificially from Terrace to Aquifer (CHHATA)!
  • It has been conceptualized to address the increasing stress on groundwater and to improve the depleting groundwater table.
  • Under the scheme, a target has been set to harvest 373.52 crore litres of water in five years.

 

5) West Bengal bags International Travel Award 2023

  • West Bengal has been accredited with the International Travel Award 2023, for ‘best destination for culture’ by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA), an affiliate of the UN World Tourism Organisation.
  • The award will be conferred in Berlin, at the World Tourism & Aviation Leaders’ Summit on March 9, 2023.
  • PATWA is an organisation of travel writers that was founded in 1998.

 

6) Bihar CM inaugurates India’s longest rubber dam on Falgu river

  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on 8 September ’22 inaugurated India’s longest rubber dam ‘Gayaji Dam’ on the Falgu river in Gaya.
  • It is 411 meters long & 3 meters high & has been built at a cost of Rs 312 crores.
  • With its construction, now at least two feet of water will be available in the Falgu river near Vishnupad Ghat throughout the year for the devotees who come here to do Pind Daan.

 

7) Union Govt extends ceasefire pact with Nagaland’s NSCN-K Niki group

  • The Union govt on 7 September 2022 extended the ceasefire agreement with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland( K) Niki group for another year.
  • The NSCN (K) Niki group is a break-away faction of the Naga insurgency group NSCN & it is led by Niki Sumi.
  • The NSCN (K) Niki had first signed the ceasefire agreement with the union govt on September 8, 2021, for a period of one year.

 

8) Karnataka to provide monetary aid for SC/ST patients with rare disease

  • The Karnataka Govt has decided to provide monetary aid to the SC/ST patients in the state suffering from diseases categorised as “rare diseases” and “high-cost diseases”
  • The state govt will provide monetary aid for the diseases which are not covered under the Centre’s ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme.
  • The govt has allocated Rs 23.18 crore for this new scheme.

9) Britain’s Queen Elizabeth Il passes away at 96

  • Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-serving monarch, passed away at the age of 96 on 8 September 2022.
  • She came to the throne at the age of 25 in 1952 after the sudden demise of her father King George VI.
  • Queen Elizabeth ruled over Britain for 70 years.
  • Her eldest son, Prince Charles, 73, will be the new king of the UK, according to centuries of protocol.

 

10) Tata Play ordered to pay ₹450 cr for alleged GST related profiteering

  • National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA) has ordered Tata Play Ltd. to deposit ₹450 crores with interest for allegedly profiteering after the introduction of GST.
  • The alleged profiteering from subscribers was from 1 July 2017 to 31 January 2019.
  • The decision came on the basis of an application filed by a consumer based in Karnataka which led to an investigation.
