1) Map In News: Gibraltar Strait

  • It is a waterway that runs between the southernmost point of Spain and westernmost point of Africa; bridging the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Because it allows for seaborne transit for commerce between the Atlantic and Mediterranean it is one of the most important worldwide sea lanes.
  • The Strait is the busiest shipping waterway in the world after the English Channel.

 

2) National Florence Nightingale Awards 2021 presented

  • President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the year 2021 to the Nursing professionals on November 7, 2022 at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • The awards were instituted in the year 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as a mark of recognition for the meritorious services rendered by the nurses and nursing professionals to the society.

 

3) PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurates 100 bridges

  • Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has virtually opened 100 bridges in 25 districts at a time.
  • These bridges built at a cost of over Tk 879 crore.
  • Of the bridges, 46 are in Chattogram division, 17 in Sylhet division, 14 in Barishal division, seven each in Dhaka and Rajshahi division, six in Mymensingh division, and three in Rangpur division.

4) Know About: Asian Hockey Federation (AHF)

  • The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) was founded during the Asian Games in Tokyo in 1958, during which hockey made its first Asian Games appearance.
  • The five founding AHF member countries were India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Pakistan.
  • The first stand-alone continental hockey tournament came in 1982, when the Pakistan Hockey Federation hosted the first Men’s Asia Cup in Karachi.

 

5) Goa CM launches Purple Fest logo

  • CM of Goa launched logo of Purple Fest: Celebrating Diversity”
  • The event will be organized from January 6 to 8 next year in Panaji.
  • The event will be jointly organized by State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Goa, in collaboration with Directorate of Social Welfare and Entertainment Society of Goa.
  • This first-of-its-kind festival will benefit persons with disabilities.

 

6) Know About: INS Shivalik

  • INS Shivalik (F47) is the lead ship of her class of stealth multi-role frigates built for the Indian Navy.
  • It is the first stealth warship built by India.
  • It was built at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) located in Mumbai.
  • Construction of the vessel began in 2001 and was completed by 2009.
  • It underwent sea trials from thereon before being commissioned on 29 April 2010

 

7) World’s First Vedic Clock

  • Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, will soon boast the world’s first Vedic clock which will be synced with the position of the Sun.
  • The state government has allocated Rs 1.62 crore for this mega project.
  • This clock will be fixed on the basis of the principles of Vedic time calculation.
  • The citizens will be able to access the Vedic clock through their smartphone, computers, TVs.

 

8) Know About: North Channel

  • The North Channel is the strait between north-eastern Northern Ireland and south-western Scotland.
  • It connects the Irish Sea with the Atlantic Ocean and is part of the marine area officially classified as the “Inner Seas off the West Coast of Scotland” by the International Hydrographic Organization.
  • The Straits of Moyle is the name given to the narrowest expanse of sea in the North Channel.

 

9) Supreme Court upholds EWS quota in 3-2 split verdict

  • The SCI Bench has by a 3:2 majority upheld the validity of the 103rd Constitutional Amendment which introduced a 10% reservation for EWS in education and public employment.
  • This was introduced under the 103rd Constitution (Amendment) Act, 2019 by amending Articles 15(6) and 16(6).
  • It was enacted to promote the welfare of the poor not covered by the 50% reservation policy.

 

10) The first squadron of indigenous LCH is operationalized

  • The Indian Army is set to operationalize the first squadron of indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH).
  • It will be based at Missamari air base in Assam and will be part of the aviation brigade tasked to defend the strategically vital western part of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Missamari was tasked to defend, among other places, the Tezpur-Bomdila-Tawang-Bum La axis.
