1) IAF contingent inducted for the Dubai Air Show 2023
- The Indian Air Force is participating in the 2023 Dubai Airshowwith an indigenous contingent including the LCA Tejas and ALH Dhruv.
- Opening ceremony on the13th November will feature performances by IAF, showcasing Indian aviation industry advances.
- LCA Tejas will participate in both static and aerial displays, whereas Sarang Display Team will demonstrate formation aerobatics.
2) Kawah Ijen Crater Lake: World’s largest acidic lake
- TheCopernicus Sentinel-2 mission, which provides optical images of Earth’s surface, captured the stunning and spooky images of this unique natural phenomenon.
- In the heart of East Java, Indonesia, lies a chilling spectacle that has been dubbed the ‘largest acid cauldron on Earth’ – theKawah Ijen Crater Lake.
- The lake is filled with a high concentration of sulphuric and hydrochloric acids.
3) Health sector poorly equipped to prevent climate extremities: WMO
- The World Meteorological Organization has published the report “State of Climate Services, 2023.”
- It says, less than 25% health ministries utilise climate information to monitor climate-sensitive health risks.
- By 2030, there will be around 560 medium- to large-scale disaster events every year, or 1.5 per day.
- Around 50% of excess mortality resulting from climate change will occur in Africa.
4) NITI Aayog organised workshop on Green Development Pact
- NITI Aayog and ICRIER are hosting a workshop “Accessing MDBs and Global Finance for Development and Green Growth” to strengthen Multilateral Development Banks.
- The workshop highlights commitments of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and aid in action plan formulation.
- The event seeks to illuminate India’s contributions to MDB reforms and their implications for India’s MDB engagements.
5) Uttarakhand celebrates 23rd Foundation Day
- Uttarakhand is celebrating its 23rd Foundation Day on November 9.
- It was on this day in 2000, that Uttarakhand was created by carving out from Uttar Pradesh.
- The main event will be held at the police line in Dehradun, which will be attended by President Draupadi Murmu.
- For the first time in 23 years, the President will participate in Uttarakhand’s Foundation Day program.
6) INDUS-X Investors Meet held ahead of 2+2 Indo-US Ministerial Dialogue
- Innovations for Defence Excellenceunder the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence and US Department of Defence, organised the maiden INDUS-X Investors Meet on 8 November 2023 at New Delhi.
- The interactive meet brought all the stakeholders viz Startups, MSMEs, Investors, Industry from both sides under one roof to discuss the collaborative agendas and opportunities thereon.
7) Berhampur University organised ‘Consumer Rights Awareness Drive’
- Department of Law, Berhampur University, organised ‘Consumer Rights Awareness Drive at Karapalli Bazar, Odisha.
- Drive laid emphasis on consumer rights, Consumer Dispute Redressal Bodies & promoting the Consumer Helpline Number.
- A street play was organised to educate people on how they could seek assistance from the Consumer Helpline and the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
8) AMFI appoints Venkat Nageswar Chalasani as new chief executive
- Industry body Association of Mutual Funds in Indiasaid it has appointed Venkat Nageswar Chalasani, former deputy managing director of State Bank of India, as its new chief executive.
- This announcement followed the end of NS Venkatesh’s tenure, who served two consecutive terms.
- The new chief executive would focus on the mutual fund industry’s growth aspects and AMFI 2.0 strategy.
9) 14th International Conference of NHRIs held at Copenhagen, Denmark
- National Human Rights CommissionChairperson Justice Arun Mishra addressed the 14th International Conference of the National Human Rights Institutions at Copenhagen, Denmark.
- The theme of the summit is ‘Torture and other ill-treatment: The role of NHRIs.’
- Cooperation to make societies more humane and civil to eradicate the menace of torture were the objectives of the summit.
10) Deepavali Utsav 2023 lights up UAE with theme ‘Unity in Diversity’
- Friends of India hosted Deepavali Utsav 2023, with a central theme of “Unity in Diversity,” celebrating India’s rich culture at theEtisalat Academy, Dubai.
- The event, inaugurated by Consul General of India, saw the participation of over 10,000 UAE residents and tourists.
- Live performances represented diverse Indian languages, with folk dances from different Indian states.
11) National Legal Services Day: 9th November 2023
- India observes National Legal Services Day, a significant occasion aimed at providing legal relief to the weaker sections of society.
- The day holds historical importance as it marks the anniversary of the enactment of the Legal Services Authorities Act in 1995.
- Theme for 2023 is “Access to Justice for All: Empowering the Marginalised through Legal Awareness.”
12) World Usability Day: 9th November 2023
- The theme for the day in 2023 is “Collaboration and Cooperation.”
- The goal of the World Usability Initiative is to connect the Human-Computer Interaction and the User Experience community.
- Established in 2005 by the Usability Professionals Association, this day occurs annually to promote the values of usability, usability engineering, user-centered design etc.
13) Shubman Gill overtakes Babar Azam, becomes ICC ODI ranking no.1 batter
- Indian batter Shubman Gillovertook Babar Azam of Pakistan to become number one batter according to the recent ICC ODI ranking.
- India’s fast bowler Mohammed Sirajalso claimed top spot in ICC ODI Bowler’s ranking.
- The ICC ODI rankings got drastically changed after the exemplary performance of the Indian team in the Cricket World Cup.
