 1) UP government signs lease agreement with AAI

  • The Civil Aviation Department of the Uttar Pradesh government has signed a lease agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
  • It is regarding the transfer of 317.855 acres of land to AAI on lease for the Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport in Ayodhya.
  • 19 airports have been made functional in Uttar Pradesh so far.

 

2) India, Israel conclude bilateral workshop on Quantum Technologies

  • India and Israel on 6 April 2022, concluded a 2-day bilateral workshop on Quantum Technologies (12QT-2022).
  • It was organized by the DRDO and DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-COE) along with IIT Delhi.
  • The objective was to deliberate on quantum technologies, evolve a joint quantum technology roadmap and plan for developing technologies by collaboration between both countries.

 

3) Ramdarash Mishra selected for Saraswati Samman 2021

  • Noted poet and litterateur Prof Ramdarash Mishra will be awarded the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2021, for his collection of poems ‘Mein to Yahan Hun!
  • Instituted in 1991, Saraswati Samman is given every year to an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen and published within the last 10 yrs.
  • It carries a citation, a plaque, and cash prize of 15 lakhs.

 

4) Parliament passes Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order Bill, 2022

  • Parliament has passed the Constitution. (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
  • The Bill amends the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 for the inclusion of a certain community in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Tripura.
  • It also seeks to include Kharwar, Deshwari, Ganjhu, Dautalbandi (Dwalbandi), Patbandi, and Raut in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Jharkhand.

 

5) Centre allows 10 states to borrow Rs 28,204 crore

  • The Union Ministry of Finance has granted additional borrowing permission of *28,204 crore to 10 states.
  • It is for undertaking stipulated reforms in power sector in 2021-22.
  • Tamil Nadu was allowed to borrow the highest additional amount of 77,054 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh, which has been allowed to borrow 6,823 crore more and Andhra Pradesh, allowed to borrow additional 3,716 crore.

 

6) TSF signs MoU with Jharkhand government to set up ITI at Chandil

  • Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) has signed an MoU with the Jharkhand government to set up Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Chandil in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
  • ITI will offer training in technical and vocational courses with an initial intake capacity of 100 students and will begin functioning from session 2023.
  • It will offer various technical courses with a duration of two years.

 

7) ICICI Securities partners with Cover Stack to offer insurance

  • ICICIdirect and CoverStack, a digital B2B platform for insurance services, have announced a partnership to offer insurance products.
  • Using CoverStack, ICICIdirect’s customers can now search, customize, compare, and buy the most suitable insurance plans for health and motor insurance.
  • ICICIdirect offers insurance products from various life, general, and health insurance companies.

 

8) Union Bank launches super-app UnionNXT, digital project SMBHAV

  • Union Bank of India has launched its super-app named UnionNXT and digital transformation project SMBHAV.
  • It has been launched with an investment outlay of around Rs 1,000 crore for the current financial year 2022-23 (FY23).
  • A banking super-app essentially combines a number of services, such as payments, bill payments, recharges, investments, loans, and fund transfers, on a single platform.

 

9) India supplies fuel to Sri Lanka under Indian credit line

  • India has supplied more than 270,000 MT of petrol and diesel to Sri Lanka so far to help ease the power crisis in the country amid the country’s worst economic crisis in decades.
  • One consignment each of 36,000 MT petrol and 40,000 MT diesel was delivered to Sri Lanka on 6 April 2022.
  • The consignment is a part of the 500 million dollar oil line of credit extended by India to Sri Lanka.

10) IFSCA inks MoU with GVFL Limited for strengthening FinTech ecosystem

  • The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and GVFL Limited signed an MoU at IFSCA’s office at Gift City, Gujarat.
  • It has been signed for cooperation and collaboration to support and facilitate FinTech ecosystem in GIFT IFSC.
  • IFSCA is a unified regulator responsible for the development and regulation of financial products, financial services and institutions in the IFSCs.

 

11) Journalist Aarefa Johari wins Chameli Devi Jain Award

  • Mumbai-based journalist Aarefa Johari has won the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Media Person 2021.
  • The award was instituted in 1982 and is presented annually.
  • It is a prestigious recognition for women media persons in India who have reported on themes such as social development, politics, equity, gender justice, health, war and conflict, and consumer values.

 

12) RBI approves re-appointment of Murli Natrajan as MD-CEO of DCB Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the re-appointment of Murli M Natrajan as the MD and CEO of DCB Bank for a period of two years, from April 29, 2022, to April 28, 2024.
  • Natrajan has been the MD and CEO of the bank since April 2009.
  • In 2024, he will complete 15 years at the helm of the bank.
  • RBI has capped the tenure of bank chief executives at 15 years.

 

13) Satyapal Malik honoured with the Sant Namdeo National Award

  • Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik and former Research and Analysis Wing Director A S Dulat have been honoured with the Sant Namdeo National Award, for the years 2021 and 2020, respectively.
  • They were awarded by Pune-based non-government organisation Sarhad.
  • Sarhad is a social, cultural and educational organisation, dedicated to the welfare of the strife-hit people in bordering areas of India

 

15) India’s trade deficit up by 87.5% in FY22: Government data

  • India’s trade deficit rose 87.55% to USD 192.41 billion in 2021-22 as against $102.63 billion in 202-2021, according to the government data.
  • While total exports increased to a record high of $417.81 billion, imports too soared to $610.22 billion, leaving a trade gap of $192.41 billion.
  • India’s merchandise import in April 2021-March 2022 was $610.22 billion.

 

16) Dharmendra Pradhan addresses India Education Summit 2022

  • Union Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan delivered the keynote address at the India Education Summit 2022, on 6 April 2022.
  • The summit is a dialogue platform by Google and Indian Express.
  • The two-day summit included discussions on technology intervention in government education, personalised education, keeping kids safe online and more.

 

17) Parliament passes Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill 2022

  • It seeks to allow investigators to collect certain identifiable information of convicts for purposes of identification and investigation in criminal matters.
  • It replaces the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920.
  • The bill has been brought in to ensure that police and investigators remain two steps ahead of criminals.

 

18) UN Assembly approves suspending Russia from Human Rights Council

  • The United Nations General Assembly has approved a resolution to suspend Russia from the world body’s leading Human Rights Council.
  • The US-initiated resolution garnered 93 votes in favour, while 24 countries voted no and 58 countries abstained, including India.
  • It is the second-ever suspension of a country from the council.
  • The Human Rights Council is based in Geneva.

 

19) RBI unveils guidelines for Digital Banking Units

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 7 April 2022 released the guidelines on the “Establishment of Digital Banking Units (DBUs)”!!
  • This is part of the announcement made in the Union Budget 2022-23 to set up 75 DBUs in 75 districts.
  • DBUs are specialized fixed point business units/hubs housing certain minimum digital infrastructure for delivering digital banking products and services.
