3) Sri Lanka to integrate energy with India via grid by 2030

  • Sri Lanka is set to achieve regional energy integration with grid connectivity with India by 2030.
  • Both countries had also agreed in principle on a renewable energy framework to foster further cooperation.
  • This integration will help in enhanced energy security and economic development in the region.
  • The project will be implemented by the state-run Ceylon Electricity Board.

 

4) Bangladesh records highest inflation rate in over a decade

  • Bangladesh recorded its highest monthly inflation rate in over a decade, with a monthly inflation rate of 9.94 percent in May.
  • The average inflation for June 2022 to May 2023 has gone up to 8.84 percent, higher than the budgetary target of 5.6 percent.
  • The increase in inflation is the highest since 2010-11 when it was reported to be 10.11 percent.

 

5) Haryana to launch campaign to raise awareness about waste collection

  • Haryana is going to launch a special campaign to raise awareness about door-to-door waste collection and segregation.
  • It is a part of the government’s continuous efforts to transform every city in the state into a ‘Clean City-Safe City’.
  • The govt will take concrete measures for the beautification of cities including the repair of roads, parks, and parking facilities.

 

6) Israel tests first autonomous flying taxi

  • Israel has begun testing autonomous drones for public transportation.
  • The drones are part of Israel’s National Drone Initiative to ease traffic congestion.
  • Autonomous Electric Vertical Takeoff &
  • Landing (eVTOL) aircraft are being tested.
  • It aims to bypass traffic jams and ease congestion.
  • The initiative is a partnership between govt entities and the country’s Civil Aviation Authority.

 

7) James Webb Telescope captures over 45,000 galaxies in one frame

  • The James Webb Space Telescope captured an image of over 45,000 galaxies as part of the JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES) program.
  • The James Webb Space Telescope will devote around 32 days of telescope time to the JADES program.
  • The JADES program is expected to uncover and characterize distant and faint galaxies.

 

8) NHPC ties up with Maharashtra govt to set up pumped hydro projects

  • NHPC has signed an agreement with the Maharashtra government to set up four pumped storage energy projects in the state.
  • These projects will have a total capacity of 7,350 MW and will attract an investment of about Rs 44,000 crore.
  • The four pumped storage projects are named Kalu, Savitri, Jalond, and Kengadi.
  • NHPC sees this agreement as a stepping-start in Maharashtra.

 

9) World Food Safety Day: 7 June

  • World Food Safety Day is celebrated on 7 June to draw global attention to the consequences of contaminated food and water to health.
  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) established Food Safety Day in December 2018 and the day was celebrated for the first time on June 7, 2019.
  • The 2023 year’s theme is “Food Standards Save Lives”.

 

10) Indian Navy to commemorate 130th anniversary of Gandhiji’s Satyagraha

  • Indian Navy to participate in a commemorative event at Pietermaritzburg Railway Station near Durban to mark 130 years of the start of the struggle against apartheid.
  • INS Trishul is visiting Durban from 06 to 09 Jun 23 to commemorate the anniversary.
  • The incident of June 7, 1893, when Mahatma Gandhi was evicted from a first-class compartment at Pietermaritzburg station.
