1) Bangladesh allows four transit routes to India

  • The Bangladesh govt has approved four routes for the transportation of goods to merchants in northeastern Indian states.
  • The 4 routes include Chittagong Port-Agartala,
  • Mongla Port-Akhaura-Agartala, Chittagong-Bibirbazar-Srimantapur, and Mongla Port-Srimantapur.
  • India and Bangladesh have signed an agreement allowing Indian traders to use ports for the transportation of goods.

 

2) PM Modi to attend National Handloom Day celebrations in New Delhi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the National Handloom Day celebrations at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam.
  • He will launch an e-portal, a Repository of Textiles & Crafts developed by NIFT.
  • The year 2023 marks the 9th National Handloom Day.
  • The program is being held in the spirit of being ‘Vocal For Local.’
  • The event aims to promote and support the handloom industry in India.

 

3) Rajasthan govt forms Guru Gorakhnath Board for backward classes

  • The Rajasthan government has formed the Guru Gorakhnath Board to identify problems faced by Jogi, Yogi, and Nath communities.
  • The Board will provide suggestions to the state government based on primary survey reports for necessary facilities for these backward classes.
  • The Board will also suggest measures for the state’s progress on educational and economic fronts.

 

4) ISRO successfully performs orbit reduction manoeuvre of Chandrayaan-3

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully carried out an orbit reduction manoeuvre of Chandrayaan-3.
  • The spacecraft underwent a planned retrofiring of engines to bring it closer to the moon’s surface.
  • ISRO would attempt a soft landing on the moon’s surface on 23 August.
  • Chandrayaan-3 will demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface.

 

5) Renowned Telangana folk singer Gummadi Vittal Rao ‘Gaddar’ passes away

  • Revolutionary balladeer and renowned folk singer Gaddar, also known as Gummadi Vittal Rao, passed away on 6 August 2023.
  • He played a significant role in the Telangana statehood movement through his songs highlighting injustices in the region.
  • Gaddar was a former Maoist ideologue who played a crucial role in the left-wing extremist movement through his songs.

 

6) Government appoints Sanjay Kumar Agarwal as new CBIC Chairman

  • Union govt, on 6 August 2023, appointed Sanjay Kumar Agarwal as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) after the superannuation of Vivek Johri on July 31.
  • Sanjay Kumar Agarwal was working as a member (investigation) in the CBIC board since March 1, 2022.
  • The CBIC has also appointed Senior IRS officer Surjit Bhujabal as member investigation, CBIC.

 

7) Amit Shah, CM Naveen Patnaik launch national highway project in Odisha

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects in Bhubaneswar on August 5, 2023.
  • The foundation stone for widening Moter to Banner in Bhubaneswar was laid by the Union Minister and CM.
  • The Kamakshyanagar-Duburi section of National Highway-53 was also inaugurated by Amit Shah.

 

8) Tamil actor Mohan of ‘Apoorva Sagodharangal’ fame, passes away

  • Tamil actor Mohan, known for his comedic supporting roles, passed away in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
  • In the 1989 hit ‘Apporva Sagodharangal’, Mohan played the role of superstar Kamal Haassan’s best friend.
  • Mohan also acted in the critically acclaimed film ‘Naan Kadavul’ released in 2009.
  • The movie depicts the horrific conditions faced by physically challenged people.

 

9) FEDA hosts International Education Summit in Dubai on excellence

  • The Federation of Economic Development Association (FEDA) hosted the International Education Summit & Conference 2023 at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University in Dubai.
  • The summit was attended by more than 120 participants from various academic disciplines.
  • FEDA is a membership-based organization that promotes economic growth in India.

 

 

10) PM lays foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 Railway Stations

  • PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
  • The redevelopment of these stations will cost more than Rs 24,470 crores and is spread across 27 states and union territories.
  • The ‘One Station One Product’ scheme will help the artisans and will help in branding the district.

 

11) National Handloom Day: 7 August

  • It is observed on 7 August every year to honour the handloom weavers in the country.
  • The Swadeshi Movement was founded on August 7, which is why that day is recognised as National Handloom Day.
  • The inaugural National Handloom Day was launched and observed by the Indian government on August 7, 2015, in Chennai

 

12) Pakistan cricket team receives govt approval to participate in India

  • Pakistan’s men’s cricket team will participate in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 hosted by India from October 5 to November 19.
  • The tournament will feature ten teams playing across ten venues from October 5 to November 19.
  • India’s World Cup campaign will begin with a match against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
  • Eight teams have qualified for the event.
