1) Know About: Hyderabad’s Liberation
- The erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad became part of the Union of India on September 17, 1948.
- India decided to annex Hyderabad and named the operation “Operation Polo”
- On September 13, 1948, Military Action took to merge Hyderabad.
- In a five-day battle, the Indian Army took Hyderabad and fully integrated it into Indian territory by decisively defeating Nizam.
2) India set to become 3rd largest economy in the world
- SBI’s Research Report said that India would surpass Germany in 2027 and Japan by 2029 at the current rate of growth and become the world’s 3rd largest economy.
- Indian economy is currently the 5th largest economy in the world.
- For Q1 FY 2022-23, India registered GDP growth at 13.5%. The report said, at this rate India is likely to be the fastest growing economy in the current fiscal.
3) Geomagnetic storm hit Earth on 4 September 2022
- Earth was hit by a strong geomagnetic storm on 4 September 2022.
- A G2-class geomagnetic storm was created when a stream of charged particles also known as solar wind, flowing from a hole in the Sun, hit Earth on 4 September.
- It was when the auroras appeared in different parts of the world.
- The storm lasted over 24 hours.
4) Army Chief reaches Kathmandu on four-day visit to Nepal
- Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande is on a 4-day visit to Nepal from 5-8 September 2022.
- This is his first visit to Nepal as Chief of Army Staff.
- During his visit, he will call on the President and Prime Minister of Nepal.
- He will be conferred with the honorary rank of General of Nepal Army on 6 Septemer 2022 in a ceremony at Sital Nivas, the official residence of President of Nepal.
5) Year-long commemoration of ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ approved
- The Indian government has given approval to the annual commemoration of “Hyderabad Liberation Day” from 17th September 2022 to 17th September 2023.
- The Ministry of Culture will host the opening ceremony for the year-long celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17, 2022.
- The event commemorates India’s annexation of Hyderabad in 1948, following India’s partition.
6) President confers National Awards to distinguished teachers
- President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Awards to 46 selected teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day in New Delhi on 5 September 2022.
- Each award carried a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal.
- Some of the recipients of the awards are Anju Dahiya, Harpreet Singh, Arun Kumar, Seema Rani, Neeraj Saxena, Nishi Kumari, and more.

8) International Day of Charity: 5 September
- Every year on 5 September, people around the world observe the International Day of Charity to mark the death anniversary of Mother Teresa.
- She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her efforts in the fight against poverty and suffering.
- This day was first marked by the UN General Assembly in 2012.
- This day encourages all NGOs and volunteer groups to carry out charitable endeavours.
9) PM Modi announces ‘PM-SHRI’ scheme for upgrading 14,500 schools
- On the occasion of Teachers’ Day (5 September 2022), PM Modi announced a new initiative – Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana.
- This will be a new centrally sponsored scheme for the upgradation and development of more than 14500 Schools across the country.
- PM SHRI Schools will showcase all components of the National Education Policy 2020 and act as exemplar schools.
10) Rajpath, Central Vista lawns in Delhi to be renamed as ‘Kartavya Path’
- The government has decided to rename the historic Rajpath and Central Vista lawns in the national capital Delhi as ‘Kartavya Path’
- PM Modi will inaugurate the revamped Central Vista on 8 September 2022.
- The decision to rename the lawns is an attempt to shed names and symbols that are remnants of the British era.
- Rajpath was known as ‘Kingsway’ during British Rule.
11) Bhartaul becomes first village in UP to have RO water in every house
- As part of the Adarsh Gram Panchayat initiative, Bhartaul village in the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh has become the first village in the state to have RO water in every household.
- As many as four RO plants have been brought up in the village with the aim to make clean drinking water available to all.
- The move will save people from water-borne diseases.
12) Liz Truss elected as UK’s new Prime Minister
- UK Foreign Minister Liz Truss was elected as the next Prime Minister of Britain & leader of the governing Conservative Party on 5 September 2022.
- With the win, she has become the third female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher.
- Liz defeated her rival & former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak by a margin of 20927 votes, after a six-week-long campaign.
