1) DRI celebrates its 65th Founding Day on 5 December 2022

  • The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is celebrating its 65th Founding Day on 5th-6th Dec 2022.
  • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate the 2-day event along with the Union MoS for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary.
  • DRI is the premier intelligence and enforcement agency on anti-smuggling matters.
  • It came into existence on 4th December 1957.

2) R. Venkataraman’s 109th Birth Anniversary: 4 December 2022

  • Venkataraman’s 109th Birth Anniversary is celebrated on 4 December every year.
  • Venkataraman was born in Rajamadam village near Tanjore district in Tamil Nadu on 25 July 1987.
  • He served as Union Minister and as the eighth president of India.
  • He participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942.
  • He was appointed as a member of the Constituent Assembly.

 

3) Indian Navy Day : 4 December

  • Indian Navy Day is celebrated on 4 December every year to recognize the achievements and role of the Indian Navy in the country.
  • December 4 was chosen as that day in 1971 during Operation Trident.
  • The Indian Navy sank 4 Pakistani vessels including PNS Khaibar, killing hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji is called the father of the Indian Navy.

4) International Volunteer Day: 5 December

  • International Volunteer Day (IVD) is celebrated on 5 December every year to promote volunteerism at local, national, and international levels.
  • The United Nations General Assembly notified in its resolution of 20 November 1997 that 2001 will be observed as the International Year of Volunteers (IYV).
  • The theme of the International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2022 is “solidarity through volunteering”

 

5) World Soil Day: 5 December

  • World Soil Day (WSD) is held every year on 5 December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources.
  • In December 2013 the UN General Assembly designated 5 December 2014 as the first official World Soil Day.
  • World Soil Day 2022 Theme: “Soils: where food begins”

 

6) Know About: Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

  • The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is an international organization that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition.
  • Its Latin motto, fiat panis, translates to “let there be bread”!
  • FAO has 194 Members, two associate members and one member organization, the EU.

7) Know About: Indian Navy

  • The Indian Navy is the maritime branch of the Indian Armed Forces.
  • The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Navy.
  • As of 2022, Indian Navy has 67,252 active and 75,000 reserve personnel in service and has a fleet of 150 ships and submarines, and 300 aircraft.

8) Know About: Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)

  • Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), established by ESI Act 1948, is an autonomous corporation under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
  • The fund is managed by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) according to rules and regulations stipulated in the ESI Act 1948.

9) Ladakh to soon have India’s first Dark Night Sky Reserve

  • Ladakh is all set to have India’s first Dark Night Sky Reserve at Hanley village in Changthang region.
  • In about eighteen locations in Hanley, powerful telescopes will be installed for stargazing.
  • At an elevation of 4,500 meters, Hanley is home for the second-highest optical telescope in the world, established in 2001 by Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
