1) Uttar Pradesh govt rolled out CM Fellowship Program
- The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the ‘CM Fellowship Programme‘ under the Aspirational City Scheme.
- It aims to enable younger citizens to contribute to urban development, planning, and monitoring tasks.
- The fellowship is part of the larger ‘Aspirational City Plan’, designed to improve urban amenities and create new job opportunities in 100 small cities across the state.
2) Akshata Krishnamurthy became the first Indian to operate Mars rover
- Dr Akshata Krishnamurthyis the first Indian citizen to operate the Mars Perseverance rover.
- She currently works for NASA as the mission science phase lead for the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar.
- The ‘rocket scientist’ obtained her Masters from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before pursing a Doctorate at MIT.
- She had travelled to the US 13 years ago for higher studies.
3) Crimes against women in U.P. ‘180 times higher’ than national average
- The highest number of trialsin 7,991 POCSO cases were completed in Uttar Pradesh.
- Madhya Pradesh(5,404) and Tamil Nadu (2,445) were ranked second and
- For the fourth consecutive year, Uttar Pradesh has achieved the highest conviction rate in cases of violence against women.
- The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data 2022released such shocking reports.
4) 115-million-year old shark fossils discovered in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
- A team of researchers have discoveredIndia’s first Early Cretaceous shark fossils, “which are 115-million year old” in Jaisalmer area of Rajasthan, according to a research paper.
- The team of researcher included Triparna Ghosh from the Geological Survey of India.
- The fossils discovered from the Habur Formation of Jaisalmer Basin sheds light on a small assemblage of Early Cretaceous sharks.
5) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar death anniversary: 6th December
- Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and political leader.
- He headed the committee drafting the Constitution of India, served as Law minister in first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru.
- He was a staunch opponent of the orthodox caste system and worked relentlessly for the upliftment of the Dalits.
- Today is his death anniversary and PM Modi paid tribute to him.
6) UP: Municipality passed proposal to rename Firozabad as Chandra Nagar
- Firozabad Municipal Corporationin Uttar Pradesh has approved the proposal to rename Firozabad as Chandra Nagar.
- This initiative is part of an overarching effort to restore ancient place names. The three rail stations, Pratapgarh, Antu, and Bishnathganj in Uttar Pradesh, have also been renamed recently in an attempt to reinforce local heritage and culture.
7) Kolkata declared safest in India for 3rd consecutive year: NCRB report
- According to NCRB report, Kolkata had registered 103.4 cases of cognisable crimes per lakh people in 2021, which dropped to 86.5 in 2022. In 2020, the count was 129.5.
- The city’s crime rate has been steadily declining since 2016, thanks to implementation of technology by Kolkata Police.
- With a cognisable offence count of 86.5 per 1 lakh population, Kolkata is far ahead of second best Pune.
8) Indian Army Idea & Innovation Competition & Seminar 2023: “Inno Yodha”
- The Indian Armyorganized the “Inno Yodha 2023” event showcasing technological innovations within the organization.
- A total of 80 in-house innovative solutions, including AI, software applications were shortlisted for further development.
- Collaboration with academia and industry was stressed to develop military-grade solutions, reflecting Army’s increasing focus on technology advancement.
9) RPF saved 520 children from trafficking under Operation Nanhe Faristey
- In November 2023, the Railway Protection Force made significant strides in crime prevention across Indian Railways.
- Notable achievements include the rescue of 35 individuals from traffickers, the arrest of 91 individuals related to drug crimes and successful reunion of 520 lost children with their families.
- These efforts highlight RPF’s steadfast commitment to passenger safety and security.
10) ICC Cricket World Cup, Pathan & Jawan among most searched in Wikipedia
- According to data released by the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that hosts Wikipedia, English Wikipedia received over 84 billion views this year alone and the top five articles of the year were ChatGPT, followed in second place by Deaths in 2023, the 2023 Cricket World Cup in third place, the Indian Premier League on the fourth spot and the film Oppenheimer.
11) Congress leader Revanth Reddy to be new Telangana Chief Minister
- Reddy has been credited with the party’s win in the recently concluded assembly elections wherein the Congress defeated the ruling BRS by bagging 64 seats.
- Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy will be the next Chief Minister of the southern state as party President Mallikarjun Kharge Tuesday appointed him as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
12) National Award for Innovations in Educational Administration conferred
- Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan conferred the National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administrationto 65 education officers.
- This award, instituted by National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, recognizes innovative educational initiatives.
- It aims to introduce good practices and foster innovation in educational administration.
13) India’s Stock Market achieved $4 Trillion market capitalization
- The total market capitalizationof all BSE-listed stocks in India reached the $4 trillion
- A drop in crude oil prices boosted investor confidence leading to a positive economic outlook in India.
- Among the top five global markets, the Indian stock market is ranked fifth in terms of market value, following the United States, China, Japan, and Hong Kong.
