2) India to host Quad senior officials’ meeting

  • India will host an official-level meeting of the Quad grouping on September 5-6, 2022 in New Delhi.
  • It will be the first such “Senior Officers Meeting” to be held since tensions with China over Taiwan have risen.
  • The meeting will review progress of initiatives that were discussed during the Quad summit in Tokyo in May 2022.

3) IILM university launches first NEP 2020 compliant law school in India

  • Institute of Integrated Learning in Management (IILM) University, Greater Noida has launched the first National Education Policy (NEP 2020) compliant law school in the country.
  • The school has been launched with the approval of the Uttar Pradesh Govt and the recognition of the Bar Council of India (BCI).
  • It has been launched with the aim to elevate the legal education system of India.

 

4) Winners of Ramon Magsaysay Awards 2022 announced

  • The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation. has announced the winners of the 64th Ramon Magsaysay Award 2022.
  • The awardees are: Sotheara Chhim (Cambodia), Bernadette Madrid (Philippines), Tadashi Hattori (Japan) & Gary Bencheghib (Indonesia).
  • The award is named after Ramon Magsaysay, the 7th president of the Republic of the Philippines.
  • It is regarded as “Asia’s Nobel Prize”
  • First awarded: 1958

 

5) Max Verstappen wins 2022 Dutch F1 Grand Prix

  • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix on 4 September 2022.
  • Mercedes’ George Russell & Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc came at the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
  • Verstappen has now won 10 of this season’s 15 races.
  • It was his 72nd podium finish & he collected 26 points from this race.
  • Verstappen won the Dutch GP in 2021 as well.
  • He has now won a total of 30 races.

 

6) Anishka Biyani wins Gold medal in Malaysian chess meet

  • Six-year-old Anishka Biyani won the gold medal in the Malaysian Age Group Rapid Chess Championship at Kuala Lumpur on 4 September 2022.
  • Anishka, a first-grade student of Dhirubhai Ambani school, achieved the feat in the Under-6 Open category.
  • In July 2022, Anishka also qualified as one of the best under-7 players in the All India FIDE rating chess tournament held in Hyderabad.

 

7) Rajnath Singh to embark on 5-day visit to Mongolia & Japan on Sep 5

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be on a five-day visit to Mongolia and Japan starting on 5 September 2022.
  • This will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Mongolia.
  • During the visit, Mr Singh will hold bilateral talks with his Mongolian counterpart Lt Gen. Saikhanbayar.
  • In Japan, Mr Singh will attend the ‘2+2 Ministerial Level Dialogue’ in Tokyo.

 

8) India’s first Night Sky Sanctuary to be set up in Ladakh

  • Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) will establish a first-of-its-kind in India ‘Dark Sky Reserve’ in Ladakh.
  • Under the project, a first-ever ‘Night Sky Sanctuary’ will also be built in Hanle, Ladakh as part of the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • The sanctuary will be one the highest-located sites in the world for optical, gamma ray and infrared telescopes.

 

9)  Teachers’ Day: 5 September

  • Every year, India celebrates Teachers’ Day on September 5.
  • The day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-President & second President of India.
  • Dr Radhakrishnan was a renowned scholar, philosopher & recipient of the Bharat Ratna (1954) & he started his career as a teacher.
  • On the other hand, World Teachers’ Day is observed on 5 October.

 

10) Krishnan Sankarasubramaniam takes over as Tamilnad Mercantile Bank CEO

  • Krishnan Sankarasubramaniam has taken over as Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Sankarasubramaniam succeeds K V Rama Moorthy and his term would be for a period of 3 years.
  • Prior to taking up the new role, Sankarasubramaniam was serving Punjab and Sind Bank as its Managing Director & CEO.
  • Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Headquarters: Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
