3) India wins gold in archery compound women’s team event
- The Indian archery compound women’s team featuring Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand, and Parneet Kaur clinched a gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou.
- The trio of Jyothi, Aditi, and Parneet clinched a gold medal after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Yi-Hsuan Chen, I-Jou Huang, and Lu-Yun Wang by 230-229.
4) India’s richest woman Savitri Jindal now 7th wealthiest Indian
- Savitri Jindal, Chairperson Emeritus of the OP Jindal Group and the richest woman in India has now surpassed Laxmi Niwas Mittal to become the seventh wealthiest person in the country.
- Jindal’s net worth rose by $4.82 billion over the past 12 months and currently stands at $18.7 billion.
- By contrast, Mittal has a net worth of $17.2 billion, which means a global rank of 98, and tenth in India.
5) India wins gold in men’s 4x400m relay
- The Indian quartet won gold medal in the men’s 4x400m relay at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou.
- The team comprising of Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Rajesh Ramesh and Muhammad Ajmal Variyathodi finished with a time of 3:01.58.
- India also holds the Area Record in the event achieved by the same quartet at the recently concluded Athletics World Champions in Belgium.
6) PM Modi to inaugurate Vijaipur-Auraiya-Phulpur gas pipeline project
- PM Modi will dedicate to the nation Vijaipur-Auraiya-Phulpur gas pipeline project in Jabalpur during his visit to Madhya Pradesh.
- The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Nagpur Jabalpur section (317 KMs) of the Mumbai Nagpur Jharsuguda Pipeline Project.
- The natural gas pipeline is being laid at a cost of Rs 1,103 crore which will start from Nagpur in Maharashtra.
7) MP government to provide 35% reservation for women in govt jobs
- MP government has issued a notification for providing 35% reservation in recruitment to women, barring the Forest department in the state
- The state government has made amendments to the Madhya Pradesh Civils Services Rules, 1997 to give 35% reservation to women
- Recently, the women’s reservation Bill passed by the Parliament, became law after it received assent from President Droupadi Murmu
8) Rima Das nominated as best director at Asia Pacific Screen Awards
- National Award-winning filmmaker Rima Das has been nominated in the best director category for her film “Tora’s Husband” at APSA 2023 alongside “Past Lives” filmmaker Celine Song.
- Filmmakers Darkhan Tulegenov (“Brothers”) and Liang Ming (“Carefree Days”) are also nominated in the segment.
9) 05 October: World Teacher’s Day 2023
- The day is dedicated to creating awareness about the significant role of teachers in the development of societies
- The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2023 is “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage”
- This day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO and UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers
10) Lucknow set to get its first animal crematorium
- To address the issue of disposing of dead pets and strays, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation has decided to set up an electric crematorium near the TS Mishra Medical University.
- A proposal for the same was approved by LMC House.
- The state capital has over 9,000 registered and an estimated 20,000 non-registered pets
11) Lovlina Borgohain finishes with silver in Boxing
- Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain ended her Asian Games campaign with a 75kg silver medal after losing to local favourite Li Qian in a packed Hangzhou Gymnasium.
- Borgohain beat Li in the World Championships semi-final in Delhi earlier this year but the Chinese boxer, seven years older to the 26-year-old Lovlina, had her revenge in style.
12) Neeraj grabs gold, Kishore takes silver in javelin
- Indian javelin throwers Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena produced a commanding performance to walk away with a gold and silver as Indian athletes continued their sensational run, claiming seven medals in the athletics competition at the Asian Games.
- Neeraj Chopra finishes with a best of 88.88m. Whereas Kishore secured silver with 87.54m.
13) Indian Navy develops indigenous navigation system & anti-swarm drones
- The Indian Navy has developed an indigenous navigation system and an anti-swarm drone, capable of building walls around its own warships.
- The Indian Navy is progressing with the development of niche technologies through its Swavlamban initiative.
- The Dronaam counter-drone system was displayed at the Indian Navy’s Swavalamban 2023 exhibition in the national capital.
14) Glacial lake outburst, excess rainfall led to Sikkim flash floods
- The primary reason for the Sikkim flash floods appears to be a likely combination of excess rainfall and a glacial lake outburst flood event at the South Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim.
- The apex disaster management authority added that nearly 25 glacial lakes in Sikkim are assessed to be at risk.
- There was a sudden surge in water flow in the Teesta River, which washed away several bridges.
