1) Delhi govt to name colonies & streets after Babasaheb Ambedkar

  • The Delhi government has decided to replace the word ‘Harijan’ from names of colonies and streets and rename them after Babasaheb Ambedkar instead.
  • This development comes after the Central Government’s guidelines advising against the usage of the word, ‘Harijan.’

2) Sakshi Malik, Divya Kakran, Mansi Ahlawat win gold medals

  • Sakshi Malik won her first international gold medal in almost five years at the Bolat Turlykhanov Cup wrestling tournament- a UWW Ranking Series event – at Almaty in Kazakhstan on 3 June 2022.
  • India’s Mansi Ahlawat and Divya Kakran also finished at the top of the podium in their respective weight categories.
  • The last time Sakshi Malik won a gold was at the 2017 Commonwealth Championship.

 

3) RJ Umar receives UNICEF award for work during COVID-19 pandemic

  • Radio Jockey Umar Nisar (RJ Umar) from South Kashmir, has been awarded the ’01 Best Content Award’ and the Immunization Champion award by United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) at the annual Radio4Child 2022 Awards in Mumbai.
  • The award has been conferred to Umar for his work of providing awareness and countering rumours to reach audiences during the pandemic.

 

4) Himachal CM inaugurates Kangra Valley festival

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on 2 June 2022 inaugurated the Kangra Valley Summer Festival 2022 in Dharamsala.
  • This festival is organised to familiarize tourists arriving in the state during summers with the culture and traditions of Himachal Pradesh.
  • This year the festival is being organised after a gap of 10 years.
  • The festival will culminate on 9 June 2022.

 

5) Odisha’s Shreya Lenka – the first Indian to become a K-Pop artiste

  • Odisha’s Shreya Lenka has become the first-ever Indian to become a professional K-pop artiste.
  • She is now a part of the popular South Korean girl group Blackswan along with a Brazilian girl called Gabriela Dalcin.
  • They both were selected by a programme organised by DR Music to discover and train budding singers from around the world.
  • K-pop is a form of music that originated in South Korea.

 

6) RBI imposes monetary penalty on Punjab and Sind Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of 27.50 lakh on Punjab & Sind Bank for non-compliance with certain directions of the central bank.
  • The penalty was for non-compliance with RBI directions on ‘External Benchmark Based Lending!
  • Punjab & Sind Bank was founded in the year 1908 and is headquartered in New Delhi.

 

7) India, Israel adopt ‘vision statement’ to boost defence cooperation

  • India and Israel on 2 June 2022, adopted a ‘vision statement’ to further strengthen the defence cooperation between the two nations.
  • This was signed at a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Israeli counterpart Benny Gantz in New Delhi.
  • The year 2022 marks 30 years of diplomatic relations between India and Israel.

 

8) PM Modi inaugurates world’s first nano urea plant

  • PM Modi on 28 May 2022 inaugurated the world’s first Nano Urea Liquid plant by IFFCO at Kalol, Gujarat.
  • Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) has set up additional manufacturing facilities for the production of nano fertilisers at different locations in the country.
  • IFFCO nano urea liquid was developed through proprietary technology at Nano Biotechnology. Research Centre in Kalol.

 

9) International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression: 4 June

  • June 4 is observed as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.
  • The United Nations General Assembly had decided to mark June 4 as this day at its emergency session on August 19, 1982.
  • The session was held after the Lebanon war started on June 6 that year and claimed the lives of numerous people including many Palestinian and Lebanese children.

10) UNICEF and WHO launch the first Global Report on Assistive Technology

 

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) released the first Global Report on Assistive Technology (GREAT) in May 2022.
  • The report shares evidence-based best practice examples and 10 key actionable recommendations on improving access to assistive technology for every child.

11) India’s merchandise exports rose by 15.46% in May 2022

  • India’s merchandise exports rose by 15.46 percent to $37.29 bn in May 2022
  • The trade deficit widened to 23.33 billion dollars during the month.
  • According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India’s merchandise export in April -May 2022-23 was 77.08 billion dollars with an increase of 22.26 percent over 63.05 billion dollars in April-May 2021-22.

 

12) ‘Banda Singh Bahadur Martyrdom Monument Poster’ released

  • Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal released ‘Banda Singh Bahadur Martyrdom Monument Poster, on 3 June 2022.
  • It was launched in an event organised by National Monuments Authority (NMA) ahead of his 306th Martyrdom Day on 9th June.
  • Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was a great warrior who was martyred on 9 June, 1716 A.D. along with his other 18 companions at Mehrauli.

 

13) Scientists identify new coronavirus commonly found in rodents

  • Swedish scientists have identified a new coronavirus commonly found in red-backed voles- small rodents similar to field mice.
  • The study of approximately 260 voles caught in Sweden shows that the virus is well established in the red-backed voles.
  • Their finding has been published in the journal viruses.
  • The team from the Zoonosis Science Center at Uppsala University did the research.

 

14) SBI General Insurance launches new health insurance vertical

  • SBI General Insurance launched a new health insurance vertical on 1 June 2022.
  • Through this vertical the company plans to focus on new innovative health products, in-house claim settlement process, among others, to boost customer experience.
  • SBI General Insurance recorded a 50 per cent growth in gross written premium in 2021-22.

 

15) Union Health Ministry launches ‘Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0’

  • The Union Health Ministry launched the 2 months long ‘Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0’ on 1 June 2022.
  • The objective of this campaign is to achieve optimal coverage of Covid vaccination among all eligible beneficiaries and accelerate the pace of vaccination.
  • PM Modi had announced the launch of Har Ghar Dastak campaign in November 2021.

16) Adani Group buys Essar Power’s MP-Chhattisgarh transmission line

  • Adani Transmission Ltd has signed definitive agreements with Essar Power to buy one of its transmission lines linking Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.
  • A deal of 1,913 crores has been signed to buy 673 circuit kilometres (ckt km) operational inter-state transmission project owned and run by Essar Power Transmission Ltd.
  • The project operates under the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission.

 

 

17) MoU signed between Indian Air Force and Chandigarh

  • An MoU has been signed between UT of Chandigarh and the Indian Air Force for setting up the IAF Heritage Centre at Chandigarh.
  • This Heritage Centre will have artefacts, simulator and interactive boards to highlight various facets of IAF.
  • It will also showcase the vital role played by the Service in various wars.
  • This joint project is planned to be completed by October 2022.
