DAILY DOSE 3RD JUNE CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) India and Sweden host Industry Transition Dialogue in Stockholm
- India and Sweden hosted the Industry Transition Dialogue on 1 June 2022 in Stockholm, as a part of their joint initiative i.e. Leadership for Industry Transition (LeadIT).
- The LeadIT initiative lays specific focus on hard to abate sectors that are key stakeholders in the global climate action.
- During the event, India chaired the roundtable dialogues on Priorities for implementation 2022-23.
2) India and Senegal sign three MoUs
- India and Senegal signed three MoUs on 1 June 2022.
- The first MoU pertains to visa-free regime for Diplomatic and Official passport holders.
- The second agreement relates to renewal of Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) for the period
- Third MoU seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation in youth matters.
- The MoUs were signed during Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to Senegal.
3) UN approves Turkey’s request to change name to ‘Turkiye’
- The United Nations on 1 June 2022 granted Turkey’s request to change its name from Turkey to Turkiye.
- Turkey began the move to change its internationally recognised official name in English to Turkiye in December 2021.
- The country called itself Turkiye in 1923 after its declaration of independence.

4) SBI upgrades India’s FY23 GDP growth to 7.5%
- SBI Research Report has estimated that the Indian economy will grow at 7.5 percent in 2022-23.
- Real GDP will incrementally increase by *11.1 lakh crore in FY23.
- As per official data, the economy grew by 8.7 percent in FY22, net adding 11.8 lakh crore in the year to 147 lakh crore.
- This was however only 1.5 percent higher than the pre-pandemic year of FY20.
5) Indian Navy to bid farewell to two ships INS Nishank, INS Akshay
- The Indian Navy will bid farewell to its two ships INS Nishank and INS Akshay, at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on 3 June 2022.
- Both the ships will be decommissioned at Naval Dockyard after 32 years of being at the forefront.
- Nishank, the fourth of the Veer-class missile corvette, has been an integral part of the “Killer Squadron” renowned for its heroics in the 1971 war.
6) EAM Dr S Jaishankar on a visit to Slovakia, Czech Republic
- External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar is on a five-day visit to Slovakia and the Czech Republic from 2 June 2022.
- He will attend the GLOBSEC 2022 Forum and speak on the topic ‘Taking Friendship to the Next Level: Allies in the Indo-Pacific Region’
- During his visit to the Czech Republic, Dr Jaishankar will hold discussions with his counterpart Jan Lipavský.
7) SL Thaosen appointed as Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal
- A 1988-batch IPS officer, Sujoy Lal Thaosen, on 1 June 2022, took charge as the director-general (DG) of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
- Serving as a Special DG in the BSF till now, Thaosen (58) is the 21st head of the SSB.
- Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) guards Indian frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan.

8) India’s first liquid mirror telescope commissioned in Uttarakhand
- India’s first liquid mirror telescope has been commissioned atop Devasthal, a hill in Uttarakhand.
- The telescope, which is the largest in Asia, will help survey the sky and make it possible to observe several galaxies and other astronomical objects.
- The telescope dubbed the Indian Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) is built by astronomers from. India, Belgium, and Canada.
9) Centre to set up ‘PM Shri Schools’ to prepare students for future
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on 31 May 2022 said the Centre is planning to set up “PM Shri Schools”
- These schools will be aimed at preparing students for future and will be the laboratory of new National Education Policy (NEP).
- One percent of the total 11 lakh government schools in the country will be upgraded to “PM Shri” schools.
10) CoinSwitch launches India’s first rupee-based crypto index CRE8
- India’s largest crypto investing app, CoinSwitch, on 2 June 2022 launched Crypto Rupee Index (CRE8).
- It is the country’s first benchmark index to measure the performance of the rupee-based crypto market.
- CRE8 tracks the performance of eight crypto assets that represent over 85% of the total market capitalisation of cryptos traded in Indian rupee.
11) World Bicycle Day: 3 June
- The United Nations General Assembly, in April 2018, decided to observe June 3 as World Bicycle Day.
- The day celebrates bicycles as a symbol of human progress, sustainability, and social inclusion, and as a tool promoting a culture of peace.
- India is the second-largest cycle industry in the world and the world’s third-largest consumer of bicycles.

- He will replace Sheryl Sandberg, who announced on 1 June 2022, that she was stepping down from Meta.

14) IIM Ahmedabad launches country’s first Agri Land Price Index
- The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in collaboration with Indian agri-land marketplace SFarmsIndia has announced the launch of IIMA-SFarmsIndia Agri Land Price Index (ISALPI)
- It is a first-of-its-kind land price index that will record and present ‘quality controlled’ data of prices of agricultural land across the country.
- Currently, ISALPI is based on land listing data from 6 states
15) Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh releases book on pension reforms
- Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh released a book and its e-version on 8 Years of Administrative and Pension reforms -2014-2022, on 1 June 2022.
- He also delivered the inaugural address at a webinar on Administrative Reforms and Pension Reforms (2014-2022) in New Delhi.
16) Renowned Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori passes away
- Renowned Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori passed away on 2 June 2022 in Gurugram. He was 74.
- He was former Director of Music at All India Radio and looked after Hindustani Classical Music.
- Along with Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, he is credited to have brought santoor, a lesser known Kashmiri instrument, into the global limelight.
17) C-DOT signs agreement with VVDN Technologies and WiSig Networks
- The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed an agreement with WiSig Networks Private Limited and VVDN Technologies Private Limited for collaboration in the area of Open RAN-based Radio Network for 5G solution.
- This agreement is a major step for Indigenous development of 5G Open RAN under Aatmanirbhar Bharat Initiative.

18) 11th India – Italy Military Cooperation Group (MCG) meeting held
- 11th India – Italy Military Cooperation Group (MCG) meeting was held from 31 May to 1 June 22 in Rome, Italy.
- India – Italy Military Cooperation Group (MCG) is a forum established to boost defence cooperation between the both countries.
- The meeting was Co-Chaired from the Indian side by Deputy Assistant Chief of Integrated Staff IDC(A), HQ IDS Brigadier Vivek Narang.
19) Telangana Formation Day: 2 June
- Telangana Formation Day is observed on 2 June every year.
- Telangana was officially formed on June 2, 2014.
- It is India’s 28th state and was carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
- On 1 Nov 1956, Telangana merged with Andhra Pradesh to form a unified state for Telugu-speaking people by sculpting that state from erstwhile Madras.
- In 1969, the Telangana region witnessed a protest for a new state.
