2) Today’s History: 3 June 2023

  • In 1915, Rabindranath Tagore was awarded the title of Knighthood by the British Government.
  • In 1918, ‘Hindi Sahitya Sammelan’ was held in Indore under the presidency of Gandhiji, and Hindi was accepted as the official language.
  • In 1947, The last Viceroy of India under the British Raj, Lord Mountbatten, announced the partition of India.
  • In 1959, Singapore was declared a self-governing state.

 

3) Jal Jeevan Mission surpasses 55% of its target

  • The government remains committed to its pledge of ensuring access to running water in every household by the end of 2024
  • With 55 percent of the target already achieved, officials are working to cover over seven crore households within the next 15 months as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)
  • Launched in August 2019, the JJM aimed to reach 16.21 crore rural households with water connections

 

4) PM to flag off Goa’s first Vande Bharat Express on 3rd June

  • ‘Make in India’ and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the state-of-the-art Vande Bharat Express will improve the connectivity in the Mumbai – Goa route and provide the people of the region the means to travel with speed and comfort.
  • The train will be the 19th Vande Bharat train to run in the country.
  • The train will run between Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Goa’s Madgaon station.

 

5) UPI hits record 9 billion transactions worth Rs 14 lakh crore

  • The Unified Payments Interface UPI registered a record of more than nine billion transactions last month amounting to over 14 lakh crore rupees.
  • According to the National Payments Corporation of India, UPI recorded a total of 9.41 billion transactions in May 2023.
  • India’s homegrown payments system Unified Payments Interface UPI is one of the globally accepted payment systems.

 

6) PM addresses 350th Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation Day

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 350th year of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation Day.
  • He was coronated on June 6, 1674, at the Raigad fort from where he had laid the foundation of “Hindavi Swaraj” or self-rule of Hindus. As per the Hindu calendar, the anniversary of his coronation falls on June 2, 2023.
  • The coronation day is celebrated as a festival all over Maharashtra.

 

7) Govt releases UGC (Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023

  • The Union Minister of Education and Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan, released the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023.
  • It will facilitate the creation of more quality-focused deemed to be universities. in an objective and transparent manner.
  • Institutions with minimum ‘A’ grade and above in NIRF rankings are eligible to set up off-campus centres.

 

8) TCS, Reliance, Jio top best Indian brands 2023 ranking

  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Reliance Industries have topped the list of the most valuable brands in India, according to Interbrand’s Best Indian Brands report.
  • The top three brands account for a 46% of the total value of the top ten brands.
  • The total brand value of the top ten brands exceeds the combined value of the remaining 40 brands on the list.

 

9) Microsoft joins govt to train students, teachers in cybersecurity

  • Microsoft has signed an MoU with DGT under MSDE to train 6,000 students and 200 educators in digital and cybersecurity skills in India.
  • The training will include courses in Al, cloud computing, web development, and cybersecurity skills for students and faculty members.
  • The collaboration aims to empower students with industry-relevant skills and enhance their employability.

 

10) Govt approves setting up of Regional Office of Universal Postal Union

  • India has made an agreement with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to establish a regional office in New Delhi.
  • It will provide development cooperation and technical assistance to the region.
  • The decision to establish the regional office was approved by the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • It was founded under the Treaty of Bern in 1874 and has its headquarters in Bern.

  • Published by Westland Books, it looks at the events of May 29, 2022, the day the Punjabi hip-hop star was shot by six armed assailants while driving to his aunt’s house in a village in Punjab.

 

13) The Global Slavery Index 2023

  • According to the Walk Free Foundation’s Global Slavery Index 2023, 50 million people are living in conditions of modern slavery – a 25% rise over the last five years.
  • Among the G20 nations, India tops the list with 11 million people working as forced labourers, followed by China, Russia, Indonesia, Turkey and the U.S.
  • It is an assessment of modern slavery conditions in 160 countries.

 

14) Srinagar to become smart city by June 2024

  • Srinagar city will become a smart city by June 2024.
  • A total 125 projects worth Rs 930 crore has been sanctioned under the Smart City Mission under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • Athar Amir Khan, CEO, Srinagar Smart City Ltd (SSCL) and Srinagar Municipal Commissioner informed this.
