- The Golconda fort was built by Qutubshahi of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty.
- Golconda Fort is a fortified citadel.
- It was the capital city of the Qutb Shahi dynasty.

- It was originally known as Mankal and built on a hilltop in 1143.
1) Green Warriors: Afroz Shah from Mumbai
- Afroz Shah, a Mumbai-based lawyer, led the world’s biggest beach cleanup, removing 5 million kg of trash from Versova Beach in 85 weeks.
- Recognized by the UN as a Champion of the Earth in 2016, his efforts inspired the Clean Seas campaign globally and praise from PM Narendra Modi for transforming Versova Beach.
2) Poet-Diplomat Abhay K launches his new book ‘Monsoon’
- Poet-diplomat Abhay K launched his new book ‘Monsoon’ at Kathika Cultural Centre in Old Delhi.
- The book-length poem takes readers on a journey through the monsoon.
- His forthcoming book ‘Celestial’ takes readers on a journey to all the 88-star constellations visible from Earth.
- His translation of the 1st Magahi novel ‘Phool Bahadur’ by Jayanath Pati will be published by Penguin in Jan 2024.
3) Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena takes over as Chief of Staff, ENC
- Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena has taken over as the Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, from Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan in Visakhapatnam.
- He has served as the Navigating Officer of several Indian Naval ships including INS Kuthar, Godavari, and Delhi.
- He has been awarded the Nau Sena Medal in 2017 and Ati Vishist Seva Medal in 2023 by the Hon’ble President of India.
4) Karnataka govt, Foxconn sign Letter of Intent with 5000 cr investment
- Foxconn has signed a Letter of Intent (Lol) with the Karnataka government to undertake two projects in the state worth 5,000 crore.
- The two projects are a phone enclosure project and a semicon equipment project with estimated investments worth USD 350 million and USD 250 million respectively.
- The phone enclosure project aims to manufacture sub-assembly components for smartphones.
5) UP Govt to set up animal birth control centers in all municipal corps
- Uttar Pradesh govt is establishing Animal Birth Control Centers (ABC) to prevent dog attacks on children and the public.
- The ABC centers are being set up in all municipal corporations and 58 district headquarters of Uttar Pradesh in a phased manner.
- The state government has sterilized over 2.16 lakh dogs so far through the ABC centers.
6) Assam CM launches ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolan’ initiative
- Assam Chief Minister launched the Amrit Brikshya Andolan web portal and mobile application.
- The initiative aims to plant 1 crore saplings across the state on September 17.
- The initiative aims to provide a major boost to the state’s green economy.
- Around 40 lakh members of women self-help groups from across the state would be planting two commercially-viable saplings each.
7) 57 stations in Odisha to be upgraded under Amrit Bharat Station scheme
- 57 railway stations in Odisha will undergo a major makeover under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
- The East Coast Railway has identified the stations for redevelopment.
- The scheme aims to upgrade 1309 stations on Indian Railways.
- Amenities for Divyangjans and sustainable solutions will also be provided.
- The scheme includes providing ballastless tracks & “Roof Plazas” as necessary.
8) 132nd Edition of Durand Cup set to commence on August 3
- The 132nd edition of the Durand Cup, one of India’s most prestigious football tournaments, is set to begin in Kolkata on 3 Aug 2023.
- The event will feature 43 matches, including 36 league matches, four quarter-final matches, two semi-finals, and a final match on September 3.
- The tournament will see 24 football teams from diverse regions of India, including two teams from Bangladesh & Nepal.
9) India, Lesotho hold 5th meeting of joint bilateral commission
- India and Lesotho held the 5th round of Joint Bilateral Commission for Cooperation in Maseru.
- The Indian side was led by Puneet R Kundal, joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
- The two sides carried out a comprehensive review of the existing bilateral relations.
- Both sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and have regular meetings of the institutional mechanisms.
10) Govt to implement 28 pc GST on online gaming from October 1
- The GST Council on 1 August 2023 decided to impose 28 percent tax on online games, casinos and horse racing from October 1, 2023.
- Amendments will be made in the C-GST Act 2017 and I-GST Act 2017 to provide clarity on the taxation of supplies in these areas.
- This rate applies irrespective of whether the activities are a game of skill or chance.
11) GeM registers highest ever GMV of more than 2 lakh cr in FY 2022-23
- The Government e-Marketplace (GEM) achieved its highest-ever Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of Rs 2,01113 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23.
- It has achieved a cumulative GMV of more than 4.5 lakh cr since its inception.
- It aims to bring transparency, and fairness to the Govt procurement process.
- GeM enables savings through features such as higher seller participation, and demand aggregation.
12) Rajya Sabha passes Jan Vishwas Amendment Bill 2023
- The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 was passed in Lok Sabha on 27th June 2023 and Rajya Sabha on 2nd August 2023.
- The Bill proposes to decriminalize 183 provisions in 42 Central Acts administered by 19 Ministries/Departments.
- The Bill proposes measures such as pragmatic revision of fines and penalties commensurate to the offence committed
13) Govt introduces a new category of Ayush visa for foreign nationals
- Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has notified the creation of a new category of Ayush (AY) visa for foreign nationals for treatment under Indian systems of medicine.
- It is part of India’s roadmap for the Heal in India initiative of the government.
- According to a report by the Global Wellness Institute, Ayush-based healthcare economy is estimated to grow to $70 billion by 2025.
14) President of India to inaugurate ‘UNMESHA’ & ‘UTKARSH’ fest in Bhopal
- The President of India, Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate ‘Unmesha’ – International Literature Festival and ‘Utkarsh’ – Festival of Folk and Tribal Performing Arts in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
- It is being organised by the Ministry of Culture in association with Sahitya Akademi and Sangeet Natak Akademi.
- 17 sessions on different topics will be held on the first day under Unmesha.
15) Parliament passes Mines and Minerals amendment bill, 2023
- The Rajya Sabha has passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023.
- Parliament made amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, of 1957.
- The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on 28.07.2023 and with the passage of the Bill in Rajya Sabha.
- The MMDR Act, of 1957 was amended in 2015 to bring several reforms in the mineral sector
