1) RBI sets targets for lenders on CBDC, unclaimed deposits

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has assigned business targets to banks for promoting initiatives like the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and the recovery of unclaimed deposits.
  • RBI has given a target to generate one million daily digital currency transactions by December 2023.
  • RBI has also announced the setting up of a centralized portal to locate unclaimed deposits in multiple banks.

 

2) Taylor Fritz wins the Atlanta Open for his sixth career ATP Tour title

  • Taylor Fritz won his sixth career title Sunday, beating Aleksandar Vukic of Australia 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 at the Atlanta Open 2023.
  • This is his second victory of the season on hard courts, after the Delray Beach title in February 2023.
  • Taylor Fritz is an American professional tennis player.
  • He has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 5 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

 

3) Alexei Popyrin beats Wawrinka in Croatia Open final 2023

  • Alexei Popyrin clinched the Croatia Open 2023 title after winning the final against Stan Wawrinka on 30 July 2023 in Umag, Croatia at the ATP 250. Popyrin defeated the 16-time tour-level champion Wawrinka with 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 sets.
  • Alexei Popyrin is an Australian professional tennis player. Popyrin has a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 59.

 

4) INS Visakhapatnam reaches Muscat to enhance India-Oman ties

  • The Indian Navy’s INS Visakhapatnam arrived in Oman to enhance maritime partnership between both countries.
  • INS Visakhapatnam is part of the Western Naval Command Fleet.
  • It is the lead ship of the P15B class, which was commissioned in 2021.
  • Diplomatic relations between India and Oman were established in 1955.
  • The relationship was upgraded to a Strategic Partnership in 2008.

 

5) Indian women’s hockey team wins 100th Anniversary SHF tournament

  • The Indian Women’s Hockey Team won the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation – International Tournament (Torneo del Centenario) with a 3-0 victory over hosts Spain.
  • The Torneo del Centenario is being played to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Real Federacion Espanola de Hockey – the Spanish hockey federation.
  • The Indian women’s team was led by goalkeeper Savita Punia.

 

6) ISRO launches PSLV-C56 rocket carrying 7 Singaporean satellites

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on 30 July 2023, successfully launched its PSLV-C56 rocket carrying 7 Singaporean satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • DS-SAR carries a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload which allows it to provide all-weather day and night coverage.
  • This is the 58th flight of PSLV and 17th flight of PSLV in Core Alone configuration.

 

7) India’s per capita income to jump 70% by 2030: Standard Chartered Bank

  • The per capita income of India is likely to grow around 70% by 2030 and is expected to reach $4,000 from current levels of $2,450, according to a research report by Standard Chartered Bank.
  • The growth in income will help India become a middle-income economy with a GDP of $6 trillion.
  • Household consumption is projected to reach $3.4 trillion by fiscal 2030.

 

8) Govt drafts a National Strategy for Cruise Tourism development

  • The Ministry of Tourism in India has drafted a National Strategy for Cruise Tourism to position India as a preferred destination for cruise tourism globally.
  • The strategy document for cruise tourism includes infrastructure & circuit enablement, market development around cruise terminals.
  • The cruise passenger traffic grew from 1.26 lakh in 2015-16 to 4.68 lakh in 2019-20.

 

9) Amazon India announces to open first floating store in Dal lake

  • Under ‘I Have Space’ delivery programme, Amazon India has announced to open its first ever floating store in Jammu and Kashmir’s Dal Lake in Srinagar.
  • The store will be opened in a houseboat and will provide deliveries to its customers every day in Srinagar.
  • Launched in 2015, the ‘I Have Space’ programme has 28,000 neighbourhood and kirana partners in about 420 cities in India.

 

10) India to home South Asia’s first-ever Center for Species Survival

  • The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission has partnered with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to set up the first-ever Center for Species Survival in South Asia.
  • The Center for Species Survival will be the 10th of its kind in the world and the first in South Asia.
  • It will provide a platform for conservation practitioners to share best practices.

 

11) India and Laos sign MOUS for five quick impact projects

  • India and Laos signed MoUs for five Quick Impact Projects in education, health, water facility, and IT.
  • The MoUs were signed during the 3rd round of Foreign Office Consultations held in Vientiane.
  • Both sides discussed ways to bolster cooperation in various domains, including agriculture, health, and trade ties.
  • The next round of Foreign Office Consultations will be held in New Delhi.

 

12) Dharmendra Pradhan launches ULLAS mobile app on 3rd anniversary of NEP

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) ULLAS initiative’s logo, slogan, and mobile application.
  • The app serves as a digital gateway for learners to engage in diverse learning resources through the DIKSHA portal of NCERT.
  • The ULLAS initiative focuses on promoting functional literacy, vocational skills, & digital literacy.

 

13) 106 MoUs signed on the occasion of Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2023

  • The Ministry of Education and Skill Development signed 106 MoUs on the occasion of the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2023 and the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy.
  • The MoUs encompass partnerships with both public and private entities to foster innovation, and research in multiple domains.
  • NCERT signed 20 MoUs under the aegis of eVidya initiative with several states
