1) Indo-Bangla unite to spotlight Sundarbans’ climate impact globally

  • A joint stakeholder initiative is required to raise climate-linked loss and damage in the Sundarbans at global platforms, officials and experts from Bangladesh and India agreed in Kolkata.
  • The global platforms would include the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held from November 30-December 12 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

 

2) Hewa’s International Home Textile Summit in Varanasi

  • The Prime Minister’s esteemed parliamentary constituency recently hosted the International Home Textile Summit in Varanasi.
  • The Summit witnessed the convergence of international buyers hailing from Libya, Russia, Iran, Canada, and various other nations.
  • In addition to these esteemed guests, the summit saw the active participation of industry professionals, fashion designers & brand experts.

 

3) RBI’s Swaminathan J chairs 28th Advisory Committee meet in Lucknow

  • RBI Deputy Governor Mr Swaminathan J chaired the 28th Meetingof the Standing Advisory Committee in Lucknow to review credit flow to MSMEs.
  • The meeting highlighted the significant role of MSMEs in achieving developed economic status by 2047.
  • The meeting also deliberated on digital solutions for improved credit linkage and credit support to women entrepreneurs

  • International Translation Day is celebrated to recognise the important role that translation plays in our lives and celebrate our shared humanity.
  • The theme for International Translation Day 2023: Translation unveils the many faces of humanity.
  • Each year, translators, interpreters and terminologists celebrate International Translation Day on 30 September, the feast of St. Jerome.

 

5) Combined Index of Eight Core Industries rises to a 14-month high

  • The Combined Index of Eight Core Industries rose to a 14-month highof 1% provisionally in August this year.
  • According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry today, the production of all Eight Core Industries recorded positive growth in August 2023 over the corresponding month of last year.
  • The figure for July has been revised upwards to 8.4% from 8.0%.

 

6) Newly discovered deep-sea enzyme breaks down PET plastic

  • Plastic pollution is increasingly affecting the health of coasts and oceans
  • One well-known problem is plastic bottles made from polyethene terephthalate
  • A new study involving scientists from Professor Ruth Schmitz Streit’s research group at Kiel University has shown for the first time, using microorganisms from the deep sea, that polymers such as PET are continuously degraded by an enzyme

 

7) Ayush Board to be formed in Uttar Pradesh

  • During a meeting of the Ayush department, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath provided directions for the formation of an integrated Ayush Board in the state.
  • The board is for the management of institutions related to Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Siddha, Naturopathy, and Yoga practices, as well as the registration of doctors associated with these methods.

 

8) Ladakh’s Umling La fashion run sets altitude record

  • At an altitude of 19,024 feet,the Umling La fashion run in Eastern Ladakh beat the previous Guinness World Record for the highest-altitude fashion show in the world.
  • The event was organised by the Ladakh Art and Entertainment Alliance, in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, featuring models hailing from 16 countries, including two from Ladakh.

 

9) Dinesh Dasa appointed member of UPSC

  • Former chairman of the Gujarat Public Service Commission Dr. Dinesh Dasa was on Friday appointed as a member of the Union Public Service Commission
  • Dasa served as the Chairman of GPSC from February 2016- January 2022.
  • During his tenure, the commission processed 827 advertisements to recruit 26,116 officers in which a total of 62 lakh candidates were registered and participated.

 

10) Afghanistan currency emerges as best-performing unit globally

  • Afghanistan’s currency has emerged as the world’s best-performing unit in the September quarter
  • Rallying 9% during the three-month period and 14% so far this year amid foreign aid flows and the US releasing funds to the war-torn country
  • The mostly agrarian economy of the now Taliban-ruled Afghanistan had tanked almost 30%, and its currency had dropped to 124.2 against the US dollar

 

11) D Pradhan to launch Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav and Technology Summit

  • Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to launch Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav and Technology and Bharatiya Bhasha Summit in New Delhi
  • The two-day summit aims for a technologically enriched future for Bharatiya languages in education
  • The summit will focus on the integration of technology in promoting Bharatiya Bhasha, including its role in teaching, examination, and translating educational materials

 

12) G. Kishan Reddy launches India’s first 5G Training Labs and 5G health

  • The  Minister for Development of North East Region, Tourism, and Culture, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, today launched India’s first5G training labs and 5G applications in the health sector in all eight North Eastern States.
  • The project is centrally funded through the North East Council and is being implemented by Assam Electronic Development Corporation, a PSU of the Assam government.

 

13) President Droupadi Murmu grants assent to Women’s Reservation Bill

  • President Droupadi Murmu has given her assent to the Women’s Reservation Bill which was passed by both the Houses during the recent special session of Parliament.
  • The Central government has issued a gazette notification for the legislation which is also called Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. After the President’s assent, now the legislation has become a law.
