1) India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2022: History Created

  • India and Pakistan have met 200 times in international cricket across formats.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar recorded figures of 4-0-26-4, the best bowling figures by an Indian against Pakistan in T201s.
  • Rohit Sharma (3,499 runs) surpassed New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (3,497 runs), becoming the highest run-scorer.
  • fast bowlers took all 10 wickets for India in T201 for the first time ever.

 

2) Adille Sumariwalla takes over as President of IOA

  • The Indian Olympic Association has co-opted Adille Sumariwalla as the President of the association till fresh elections are held.
  • The erstwhile President of the IOA, Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, resigned from the post in July 2022 which led to a vacancy for the post.
  • Thereafter, 18 Executive Members, in accordance with Clause 11.1.5 of the IOA Constitution, co-opted to fill the vacancy.

 

3) International Day against Nuclear Tests: 29 August

  • With an aim to bring awareness regarding the harmful effects of testing nuclear weapons, every year, 29 August is observed as the International Day against Nuclear Tests.
  • Established on 2 December 2009, this day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in its 64th session.
  • The first nuclear test ‘Trinity’ was conducted on July 16, 1945, by the US Army in a desert in New Mexico.

  • University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body set up by the Ministry of Education, Govt of India in accordance to the UGC Act 1956.
  • It is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India.
  • It also provides recognition to universities in India.

5) IIT Madras partners with IIS to develop boxing analytics software

  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has partnered with Karnataka based Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS) to develop a boxing analytics platform Smartboxer!
  • Smartboxer will use wearable sensors & video cameras to provide assessments of boxers on the four key traits for scoring in boxing.
  • It is one among the many initiatives of IIT Madras aimed at winning more medals in the Olympics.

 

6) Know About India’s Greatest Demolition: Twin Tower

  • Supertech Twin Towers named Apex and Ceyanewere brought down as per the order of the Supreme Court Of India.
  • 3700 KG Explosive has been used, in effect, 80,000 Kg debris has been created.
  • EDIFICE and JET, these companies are responsible for the Demolition Process.
  • These towers were declared illegal according to NBR 2006 and 2010.
  • Investors got their refund with a 12.5% interest rate.

 

7) Uttarakhand CM launches ‘CM Udyman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana’

  • Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on the occasion of National Sports Day (29 August ’22) launched the “CM Udyman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana!
  • Under this scheme, a sports scholarship of Rs1500 per month will be given to the emerging players of the state between the age group of 8 to 14 years.
  • A total of 3900 players will be given scholarship every year, which will include 1950 boys & 1950 girls.

 

8) National Small Industry Day: 30 August

  • The National Small Industry Day is observed in India on August 30 every year.
  • The day recognises the contribution of small industries to the country’s growth.
  • The central govt had introduced an extensive policy package for the small-scale industry on 30 August 2000, and since then National Small Industry Day is observed every year.
  • On the other hand, World MSME Day is observed on 27 June.

 

9) Sports Ministry organises ‘Meet the Champion’ initiative

  • Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry organised – ‘Meet the Champion’ initiative in 26 schools across the country on the occasion of National Sports Day on 29 August 2022.
  • Few of the prominent athletes who will be the part of this initiative are Commonwealth Games and World Championships Gold Medalist Nikhat Zareen, Paralympics and CWG medalist Bhavina. Patel, etc.

 

10) J&K Police launches online Mobile app “JK Ecop”

  • The Jammu & Kashmir Police has launched an online Mobile application “JK Ecop”
  • The App enables the common citizens to use a host of services ranging from registering a complaint to downloading a copy of FIR.
  • A citizen can also make requests like obtaining a character certificate, employee verification, or tenant verification through this App.

11) Know About: Asia Cup

  • The Asian Cricket Council Asia Cup was established in 1983 when the Asian Cricket Council was founded.
  • It is a men’s One Day International and Twenty20 International cricket tournament.
  • It alternates every 2-years between ODI and T201 formats.
  • The first Asia cup was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
  • India, with 7 titles (6 ODI and 1 T201), is the most successful team.

 

12) Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games start from 29 August

  • In Rajasthan, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games started in more than 11,000 panchayats on 29 August 2022.
  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the games at the state-level function organised in Jodhpur.
  • About 2,25,000 teams are participating in these games.
  • Under the rural olympics, 6 sports-kabaddi, shooting ball, volleyball, hockey, kho-kho and tennis ball cricket will be played.

 

13) UGC to launch ‘e-Samadhan’ portal for resolving grievances

  • The University Grants Commission(UGC) is all set to launch its new centralised portal called ‘e-Samadhan’ in the first week of September 2022.
  • It is being launched to monitor and resolve all grievances of students and staff members in universities.
  • Nearly 38 million students are expected to be benefitted from the e-Samadhan portal.
