1) World Day for Safety and Health at Work: 28 April

  • April 28th is marked as the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
  • It is observed annually to encourage the balance of safe, healthy, and appropriate working environments worldwide.
  • The theme for the year 2023 is, ‘A safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work’.

 

2) Delhi govt approves draft proposal on labour working conditions

  • Delhi government has approved a draft policy to lay down some labour laws.
  • The draft Delhi Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Rules, 2023, was vetted and approved by the labour department on 28 April 2023.
  • As per the draft rules, women, if they choose to, can now work from 7 in the night to 6 in the morning.

 

3)  Emirates unveils world’s first robotic check-in assistant

  • Dubai-based airline Emirates has unveiled its latest innovation, the world’s first robotic check-in assistant named Sara.
  • The system is part of a new City Check-in and Travel Store that is set to launch in Dubai’s financial district.
  • Sara will match customers’ faces with scanned passports, check passengers in, and guide them to the luggage drop area.

 

4) Workshop on Indian Cinema inaugurated at Colombo

  • A workshop on Indian Cinema was inaugurated at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Colombo on 28 April 2023.
  • The event was attended by Sri Lanka’s State Minister for Urban Development and Housing, Arundika Fernando, and Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Vinod Jacob.
  • A delegation was led by Dr. Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, a highly decorated director, actor, screenwriter.

 

5) Ministry of Culture to release comic book series

  • The Culture Ministry has decided to release a 12-part comic book series based on the themes and people featured in Prime Minister Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme.
  • The special project is being implemented by Amar Chitra Katha, which will release the series in English, followed by translations in 12 Indian languages.
  • The Culture Ministry will also hold projection mapping shows at 13 monuments.

 

6) Agriculture Minister launches ‘Millets Experience Centre’

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched the first of its kind ‘Millets Experience Centre (MEC)’ at Dilli Haat in New Delhi on 28 April 2023.
  • National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) has established it in collaboration with the Agriculture Ministry.
  • It aims to raise awareness of Millets and encourage its adoption among the general public.

 

7) Sinthan Snow Festival-2023 to take place in J&K

  • The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu and Kishtwar Tourism Development Authority (KTDA) is organising a two-day Sinthan. Snow Festival-2023 at Sinthan Maidan, Kishtwar on 29-30 April 2023.
  • The snow festival is being organized in collaboration with the District Administration Kishtwar, the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL), and the Army.
