1) President Murmu stresses on preventive healthcare and organ donation.

  • During the 9th convocation of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, the President emphasized the need for organ donation awareness and preventive healthcare.
  • Murmu praised ILBS for performing over a thousand liver transplants and around 300 renal transplants to date.
  • She also commended the creation of an Al Learning Unit at ILBS.

 

2) CS Rajan assumed chairmanship of Kotak Mahindra Bank upon RBI approval

  • The Reserve Bank of India has sanctioned CS Rajan’s two-year tenure as Chairman of Kotak Mahindra Bank.
  • Effective from January 1, 2024, Rajan succeeds Prakash Apte whose term concludes at the end of 2023.
  • Rajan, a retired Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, previously served as an Independent Director on the bank’s board.

 

3) PM Modi to inaugurate sleeper edition ‘Amrit Bharat Express’ on Dec 30

  • PM Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the ‘Amrit Bharat Express’, from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on December 30.
  • Labelled as the “sleeper edition of the high-speed Vande Bharat trains”, this train includes only second-class and sleeper-class compartments.
  • A fare structure has been outlined by the Railway, with the minimum fare fixed at 35 for journeys within a range of 1 to 50 kilometers.

 

4) Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai host over 20% of India’s crypto investments.

  • Over 20% of India’s cryptocurrency investments are concentrated in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai, revealed 2023 investor report by CoinSwitch.
  • Around 75% of crypto investors are under 35 years old, while women make up 9% of India’s crypto investor base.
  • Dogecoin, Bitcoin, and Ethereum were the most invested cryptocurrencies of the year.

 

5) China’s long March-11 carrier rocket successfully lifts off.

  • China successfully launched the Long March-11 carrier rocket into space, placing three satellites in the planned orbit.
  • The launch was executed from waters off Yangjiang, located in southern China’s Guangdong Province.
  • The newly launched satellites will primarily be used for space science and technological experiments.

 

6) Government aims for 50 lakh Digital Life Certificates by march.

  • The government has set a goal to collect 50 lakh Digital Life Certificates from Central Government Pensioners by March 2024.
  • A saturation-based approach is advised for ensuring DLC submissions, with a focus on super senior pensioners above 80 years of age.
  • As part of the DLC Campaign 2.0, 1.29 Crore pensioners have submitted DLCs so far.

 

7) Ayodhya railway station renamed as “Ayodhya Dham”.

  • Ayodhya’s redeveloped railway station has been renamed to “Ayodhya Dham” from “Ayodhya Junction” before the January 22 Ram Temple consecration ceremony.
  • The name alteration was announced by the Indian Railway Conference Association, maintaining the station’s existing alphabetical code.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the renamed railway station on December 30.

 

8) SAMARTH-curated training programs launched on iGOT Karmayogi platform.

  • Six SAMARTH-curated training programs for State Government officials have been launched on the iGOT Karmayogi Platform.
  • The programs aim to enhance the skills and competencies of government officials to better meet evolving governance needs.
  • Currently, the comprehensive online learning platform iGOT Karmayogi hosts over 28 lakh registered learners from across government verticals.

 

9) Amit Shah declared Muslim League Jammu Kashmir as unlawful under UAPA.

  • Amit Shah announced the declaration of MLJK-MA as an ‘Unlawful Association’ under UAPA.
  • The organization was accused of anti-national, secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Government’s stern message: Those jeopardizing unity and integrity will face the full force of the law.

 

10) LIC appoints S Sunder Krishnan as chief risk officer succeeding Pratap

  • Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announces S Sunder Krishnan as the new Chief Risk Officer (CRO).
  • Krishnan, a chartered accountant, brings 18 years of experience from leadership roles at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance.
  • He takes over the role from Pratap Chandra Paikray, as confirmed in a regulatory filing by LIC.

 

11) MSP hike for Copra; new Bihar bridge; and road widening in Tripura.

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved a significant increase in the MSP for copra for the 2024 season.
  • The MSP sees a raise of Rs 250-300 per quintal, reaching Rs 11,160-12,000 per quintal, ensuring 50% higher than production costs.
  • Additional decisions include the announcement of a new bridge in Bihar and the widening of a 135 km stretch of Khowai-Harina road in Tripura.
