1) Cabinet approves National Medical Devices Policy, 2023
- The National Medical Devices Policy, 2023 has been approved by the Cabinet, aiming to increase domestic production of medical devices and reduce imports.
- The medical devices sector in India is a sunrise sector that is growing at a fast pace.
- The policy is expected to help the Medical Devices Sector, grow from the present 11 billion US dollars to 50 billion US dollars in the next five years
2) Razorpay among 6 Indian companies featured in world’s top 100 unicorns
- Razorpay, an Indian payment solutions company, has been included in Hurun’s Global Unicorn Index 2023, which lists the world’s top 100 unicorns.
- India retained the third spot on the Index with 68 unicorns being feature this year.
- Among these are payments and banking platform Razorpay, edtech startup Byju’s, foodtech platform Swiggy and fantasy gaming company Dream11.
3) Rajnath Singh to chair SCO Defence Ministers meeting on April 28
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to chair the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers meeting on April 28.
- Defence Ministers of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, an zbekistan will participate in the meeting.
- India has invited Belarus and Iranv currently observers in SCO, to participate in the SCO Defence Minister’s Meeting.
4) PM Modi to attend 20th anniversary of SWAGAT initiative in Gujarat
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 20th anniversary of the State Wide Attention on Grievances by Application of Technology -SWAGAT initiative in Gujarat
- The scheme was started by PM Modi in April 2003 during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
- The main purpose of the scheme was to bridge the gap between citizens and the government by using technology
5) KBM Spices appoints Parineeti Chopra as brand ambassador
- KBM Spices, a leading Indian spices and masala brand, has appointed Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra as its brand ambassador.
- The appointment of Parineeti Chopra is part of the company’s expansion plans to increase its market presence and brand visibility.
- KBM Spices aims to tap into the growing demand for high-quality and authentic Indian spices and masalas, both in India and abroad.
6) European summit aims to boost wind energy production in the North Sea
- 9 European countries are holding a summit Monday aimed at scaling up wind power generation in the North Sea
- The meet was hosted by Belgium
- The North Sea summit is the second one to be held, after the four countries in the inaugural gathering last year
- The summit aims to accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
7) Rail Vikas Nigam Limited now a Navratna PSU
- Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has now been promoted to ‘Navratna’ category of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) from Category-I Miniratna.
- The Finance Minister has approved to upgrade RVNL to a Navratna CPSE, starting April 26, 2023, from a Category-I MiniRatna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India
- This makes RVNL the 13th Navratna company among the CPSEs in India
8) SC lifts complete ban on ESZ constructions
- The Supreme Court lifted a complete ban by modifying its June 2022 order mandating a one-kilometre eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) around protected areas – forests, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
- It said there are in-built safeguards in existing law to prevent rampant construction or any abuse of process that may be detrimental to wildlife habitat.
