1) NICSI signs MoU with Delhi School of Management

  • National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI) and Delhi School of Management (DSM), Delhi Technological University (DTU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 24 May 2022.
  • It has been signed in the area of e-Governance.
  • The students of DSM DTU can develop a better understanding of the working environment of Government organizations/departments through this.

 

2) HDFC Bank and Retailio launch co-branded credit cards

  • India’s largest private sector bank, HDFC Bank has partnered with Retailio to launch a new range of co-branded credit cards.
  • These credit cards are primarily targeted at chemists and pharmacies in the merchant segment.
  • Retailio is the country’s largest B2B pharma marketplace.

3) UP launches ‘Sambhav’ portal for disposal of public grievances

  • UP Minister for energy and urban development A.K. Sharma has launched the SAMBHAV (Systemic Administration Mechanism for Bringing Happiness and Value) portal.
  • SAMBHAV is a multi-modal platform which has been launched to dispose public grievances swiftly and effectively and provide good governance.

4) IFS Vivek Kumar appointed as Private Secretary to PM Modi

  • Vivek Kumar, IFS (Indian Foreign Service) has been appointed as Private Secretary (PS) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Kumar is a 2004-batch Indian Foreign Service officer. He will replace Sanjeev Kumar Singla as the next PS to PM Modi. Kumar is currently the director of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
  • Sanjeev Kumar Singla is set to take over as India’s Ambassador to Israel.

 

5) Secretary, MoHUA launches Swachh Survekshan 2023

  • The Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Manoj Joshi launched the 8th edition of Swachh Survekshan (SS) – SS 2023 under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, on 24 May 2022.
  • Swachh Survekshan was introduced by MOHUA in 2016.
  • PM Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 on 1 October 2021, with a vision of garbage-free cities.
  • The theme of SS 2023 is ‘Waste to Wealth”.

 

6) Param Porul Supercomputer inaugurated at NIT, Tiruchirappalli

  • Param Porul, a state-of the art Supercomputer was inaugurated at NIT Tiruchirappalli on 25 May 2022.
  • It was dedicated to the nation under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) – a joint initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
  • PARAM PORUL system is based on Direct Contact Liquid Cooling technology.

 

7) Third edition of bilateral exercise Bongosagar commences

  • The third edition of the Indian Navy and Bangladesh Navy bilateral exercise ‘Bongosagar’ commenced at Port Mongla, Bangladesh on 24 May 22.
  • The Harbour Phase of exercise is scheduled from 24-25 May which will be followed by a Sea Phase in the Northern Bay of Bengal from 26-27 May.
  • Indian Naval Ships Kora and Sumedha are participating in the exercise.

 

8) Tamil Nadu launches integrated agri-development scheme

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on 23rd May, 2022, launched the ‘Kalaignarin All Villages Integrated Agricultural Development Programme!
  • It proposes overall agriculture development in all the 15,525 village panchayats through a convergence of Union and State government schemes and externally-aided projects in five years.
  • This programme will benefit over 9 lakh agricultural families.

 

9) Tripura adopts Electric Vehicle policy for next five years

  • The new Tripura Cabinet headed by CM Manik Saha has approved a proposal to formulate the new Electric Vehicle Policy.
  • As per the policy, efforts would be made to convert 10 per cent of registered vehicles in the state into Electric Vehicles.
  • If implemented, Tripura would become the 15th. state in the country and third in the Northeast region to adopt the electric vehicle policy.

 

10) CBRE appointed advisor for development of multi-modal logistics parks

  • CBRE South Asia has been appointed as the advisor for the development of Multi-modal Logistics Parks across five key locations.
  • The cities are Mumbai, Chennai, Silchar, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad.
  • These projects are a part of Prime Minister of India’s Bharatmala Pariyojana programme launched for the development of world-class infrastructure.

 

11) ACME Solar commissions 300 MW solar project in Rajasthan

  • ACME Solar has commissioned a 300 MW solar power project for Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL).
  • The project, situated at village Badiseed in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan, will supply electricity to Maharashtra.
  • The company has set up an integrated solar PV to green hydrogen and green ammonia project in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

12) Rolls-Royce India president Kishore Jayaraman gets top British honour

  • Kishore Jayaraman, President, India and South Asia for Rolls-Royce, has received an honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
  • Jayaraman is a board member of the U.K.-India Business Council, which supports U.K. businesses set-up in India.
  • OBE is an order of the British Empire award. It is the second highest ranking Order of the British Empire award.

 

13) Govt allows duty-free import of 20 lakh tonnes of crude soyabean

  • The government on 24 May 2022 exempted customs duty and agriculture infrastructure development cess on 20 lakh metric tonnes yearly import of crude soyabean and sunflower oil.
  • The duty-free import of 20 lakh MT per year will be applicable for two financial years (2022-23, 2023-24).
  • The exemption will help cool domestic prices and control inflation.

 

14) Meenakshi Lekhi participated in 7th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting

  • Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi participates in 7th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting on 24 May’22 hosted by China.
  • The discussion was held under the theme Establishing a Cultural Partnership Featuring Inclusiveness and Mutual Learning among BRICS.
  • BRICS Action Plan 2022-2026 was adopted to implement the BRICS Cultural Cooperation Agreement signed in 2015.

 

15) SBI launches Xpress Credit on YONO platform

  • State Bank of India (SBI) has launched personal loan product ‘Xpress Credit’ for salaried customers on its YONO digital banking platform.
  • Eligible customers will now be able to avail personal loans up to 35 lakh via YONO, without any paperwork.
  • SBI is the 43rd largest bank in the world headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

16) MoU signed between Ministry of Ayush and Department of Biotechnology

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Ministry of Ayush and Department of Biotechnology, Government of India on 25 May 2022.
  • This MoU will facilitate Inter-Ministerial Cooperation for evidence-based biotechnological interventions in Ayush sector.
  • Ministry of Ayush is responsible for the research & development of indigenous and alternative medicine systems in India.

 

17) Indian Air Force ranks 3rd on World Air Power Index

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) has been placed at the third position on the World Air Power Index in terms of the total fighting strength of the various air services of different nations of the world.
  • The World Directory of Modern Military Aircraft (WDMMA) published the Global Air Powers Ranking of 2022.
  • IAF currently counts 1,645 total units in its active aircraft inventory.

 

18) Capt Abhilasha Barak becomes Indian Army’s first woman combat aviator

  • Captain Abhilasha Barak has created history by becoming the first woman officer to join the Army Aviation Corps as Combat Aviator.
  • Captain Barak’s achievement has been described as a “Golden Letter Day” in the history of Indian Army Aviation.
  • She was awarded the coveted wings along with 36 other army pilots during a ceremony held at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik.

 

19) India wins 23 medals at Bahrain Para Badminton

  • The Indian Para badminton team finished with a rich haul of 23 medals (7 Gold, 3 Silver & 13 Bronze) at the first Bahrain Para Badminton International Championships in Manama.
  • Promising doubles shuttler Manisha Ramdass shot into the limelight with her twin gold medal show.
  • Top para shuttlers Pramod Bhagat and Tarun Dhillon also clinched a couple of gold medals each.

 

20) World Thyroid Day: 25 May

  • World Thyroid Day is observed on 25 May every year to promote awareness and understanding of Thyroid diseases.
  • The day was officially adopted during the Annual General Meeting prior to the European Thyroid Association (ETA) Congress in September 2007.
  • The day came into existence in 2008.
  • 25th May also marks the anniversary of ETA’s foundation in 1965.
