DAILY DOSE 26TH APRIL CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) APEDA to co-organise 36th edition of AAHAR 2022 from April 26-30
- Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is organising Asia’s biggest B2B international food and hospitality fair AAHAR from 26-30 April 2022, in Delhi.
- It is being organized in association with the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO).
- It will have the theme “Geographical Indication Products”
2) Ministry of Civil Aviation and Govt of Himachal Pradesh sign MoU
- The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Himachal Pradesh govt signed an MoU on 25 April 2022.
- It has been signed for the development of a Green Field Airport in Nagchala, Mandi District.
- The new greenfield airport is being developed under the Greenfield Airport Policy of MoCA and a Joint Venture Company between Himachal Pradesh and the Airport Authority of India has been formed.
3) RBI imposes 1.12 cr penalty on Bank of Maharashtra
- RBI has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.12 crore on the Bank of Maharashtra.
- It has been fined for non-compliance with certain directions issued by the central bank, including those related to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms.
- The Statutory Inspection for Supervisory Evaluation (ISE) of the bank was conducted by RBI with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2020.
4) India, EU to launch Trade and Technology Council
- President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks in New Delhi on 25 April 2022.
- They agreed to launch the EU-India Trade and Technology Council.
- This strategic coordination mechanism will allow both partners to tackle challenges at the nexus of trade, trusted technology, and security, and thus deepen cooperation in these fields.
5) Jamtara becomes country’s first district with library in every village
- Jamtara in Jharkhand has become the only district in the country where all gram panchayats have community libraries.
- This district with a population of about eight lakh has a total of 118-gram panchayats under six blocks and each panchayat has a well-equipped library.
- It is open for students from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Career counselling sessions are also held free of cost here.
6) Tamil Nadu to observe Minorities Rights Day annually on December 18
- The Tamil Nadu government will observe December 18, every year, as Minorities Rights Day at the state level.
- Rs 2.50 lakh will be earmarked for the purpose.
- Further, in order to enable the minority girl students in rural areas to pursue their studies without any impediments, the govt would provide education aid of Rs 500 to the students of Classes 3 to 5 and Rs 1,000 to the wards of Class 6.
7) India creates Guinness record for waving the maximum number of flags
- India has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for waving the maximum number of national flags simultaneously.
- 78,220 tricolours were waved at the Veer Kunwar Singh Vijayotsav programme organized at Duler Ground in Jagdishpur in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah, in April 2022.
- The event was held to pay a tribute to the victory of the then King of Jagdishpur, Veer Kunwar Singh.
8) World Intellectual Property Day: 26 April
- World Intellectual Property Day is observed on 26 April.
- The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000.
- April 26th was chosen as the day as it coincides with the date when the convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization came into effect in 1970.
- The theme for 2022 focuses on IP and Youth innovating for a Better Future.
9) Andrey Rublev wins Serbia Open
- Andrey Rublev defeated world no.1 Novak Djokovic to capture his third tour-level title of the season on 24 April 2022.
- He defeated Novak Djokovic by 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-0.
- Rublev has now equalled Spaniard Rafael Nadal for the most tour-level titles in 2022, having also clinched crowns in Marseille and Dubai in February 2022.
10) India-UK sign MoUs on nuclear energy, innovation partnership
- Amid the visit of the UK PM Boris Johnson to India, the two countries signed a number of agreements, in April’22.
- This included two govt-to-govt MoUs on Nuclear Energy Partnership.
- Another MoU on Implementation of Global Innovation Partnership between India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office was also signed.

11) MoU signed between CSIR and iCreate
- An agreement has been signed between the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and iCreate.
- Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presided over the MoU.
- Create is the Gujarat government’s flagship technology incubator.
- Under the MoU, CSIR and iCreate intend to establish a collaborative support system for promising tech start-ups.
12) International Delegate’s Day: 25 April
- International Delegate’s Day marks the I anniversary of the first day of the San Francisco Conference, also known as the UN Conference on International Organization.
- On 25 April 1945, delegates from 50 countries came together for the first time in San Francisco.
- I Coming together after the devastation of the 2nd world war, their aim was to set up an organization that would restore world peace.
13) Suryoday Small Finance Bank partners with Kyndryl
- Suryoday Small Finance Bank has partnered with Kyndryl, an IT infrastructure services provider.
- It will drive its technology transformation program, improve operational efficiency, and increase digital banking adoption among its customers as part of a five-year partnership.
- The bank will leverage Kyndryl’s advisory and implementation services to deploy and support a new core banking system.
14) Deepak Punia wins silver medal in Asian Wrestling Championships
- Tokyo Olympian Deepak Punia settled for a silver medal in the men’s freestyle 86 kg at the 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships, on 24 April 2022.
- Viky bagged a bronze in the 92 kg category.
- India finished with a total tally of 17 medals – one gold, five silver and 11 bronze at Ulaanbaatar.
- Tokyo medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya won the solitary gold in the men’s 57kg weight class.
15) First edition of Naval Commanders’ Conference begins
- The first edition of the Naval Commanders’ Conference of 2022 is being held from April 25 to 28, 2022.
- The conference serves as a platform for naval commanders to discuss important maritime matters at the military-strategic level.
- During the conference, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will address and interact with the naval commanders.
16) Adani Power market cap tops 1 lakh cr, sixth group company to do so
- Adani Power entered the 1 lakh cr market cap club on 25 Apr 22.
- Adani Power, a part of the diversified conglomerate Adani Group, is the largest private thermal power producer with a capacity of 12,450 MW.
- It has thermal power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
- It is the sixth Adani Group Company to have a market capitalization of over 1 lakh cr.
17) Gained traction with EBLR (18-22 April) (1/9)
- RBI’s endeavor to improve monetary transmission to banks’ lending rates has gained traction with the advent of the EBLR regime
- The EBLR system has also accelerated the pass-through to MCLR-linked loans, as changes in the benchmark rates lead banks to proactively adjust their deposit rates to protect their NIMS, thereby improving transmission to overall lending and deposit rates.
18) Govind Sunil Mahajan wins gold at Khelo India University Games
- In Khelo India University Games, weightlifter Govind Sunil Mahajan won gold and Uday Anil Mahajan won silver.
- Both represented Kaviyatri Bahinabai. Chaudhuri North Maharashtra University.
- Maharshi Dayanand University’s Komal Kohar won gold in the women’s weightlifting 45kg class.
- Over at the shooting range, Delhi University’s Paarth Makhija topped the list with 628.6 points.
19) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh felicitates 1971 war veterans in Assam
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh felicitated over 300 war-veterans of the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh in Assam on 23 April 2022.
- On the occasion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also released a book ‘The Bravehearts of 1971!
- The war was an armed conflict between West Pakistan (now Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
- It resulted in Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan.
20) Gautam Adani surpasses Warren Buffett to become fifth richest
- Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has overtaken Warren Buffett as the fifth richest in the world.
- According to Forbes, his net worth reached $123.7 billion compared to Buffet’s $121.7 billion.
- He is behind Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates ($130.2 billion), Bernard Arnault ($167.9 billion), Jeff Bezos ($170.2 billion), and Elon Musk ($269.7 billion).
21) MG Motor India partners with BPCL to bolster EV charging infra
- MG Motor India has partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) to bolster EV charging infrastructure across the country.
- This collaboration aims to provide innovative EV charging solutions for customer convenience in India within the next 4-5 years.
- MG is the first passenger car company to tie up with BPCL to rapidly enhance the adoption of ‘green mobility!
22) Capgemini CEO Ashwin Yardi appointed UNICEF’s YuWaah board co-chair
- UNICEF’s YuWaah’ – the Indian chapter of Generation Unlimited – has announced Ashwin Yardi, the CEO of Capgemini in India, to be its co-chair.
- Yardi will be a co-chair along with Yasumasa Kimura.
- Generation Unlimited or YuWaah is a platform to bring young people together with the private sector, govts, and international and local organizations to turn them into active and engaged citizens.
23) International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace: 24 April
- The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is observed on 24 April every year.
- It was established on 12 December 2018 through a UN resolution and was first observed on 24 April 2019.
- The day acknowledges the use of multilateral decision-making and diplomacy in achieving peaceful resolutions to conflicts among nations.
