1) GE Steam Power signs $165 million contract with BHEL

  • GE Steam Power has signed a $165 million contract with BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) for the supply of three nuclear steam turbines.
  • GE will manufacture these nuclear steam turbines at its facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
  • In 2018, GE and BHEL had signed an agreement to manufacture nuclear steam turbines of 700 MW.

2) Madhya Pradesh clinch first ever Ranji Trophy title

  • Madhya Pradesh defeated Mumbai by six wickets to win their first-ever Ranji Trophy title at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 26 June 2022.
  • Madhya Pradesh chased down 108 in the fourth innings for the fall of four wickets to lift the coveted trophy.
  • Mumbai with 41 titles, holds the record of winning the most number of Ranji Trophy titles.
  • Mumbai last won the title in 2015-16.

 

3) Navjeet Dhillon wins gold at Qosanov Memorial 2022 athletics meet

  • Indian women’s discus thrower Navjeet Dhillon won the gold medal at the Qosanov Memorial 2022 athletics meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 25 June 2022.
  • Dhillon won the gold medal with a 56.24m effort.
  • Karina Vasilyeva with 44.61m & Yulianna Shchukina with 40.48m won the silver and bronze respectively.
  • Dhillon has also been named in India’s athletics squad for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

 

4) Government to launch integrated pension portal with SBI

  • The Centre’s Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DOPPW) will collaborate with the State Bank of India (SBI) to create an integrated pension portal.
  • It was decided at the sessions on pension policy reforms which were organised during the 2-day bankers’ awareness programme in Udaipur, Rajasthan in June 2022.
  • The aim of this collaboration is to enhance the ease of living of pensioners.

 

5) LIC launches Dhan Sanchay life insurance plan

  • The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new plan called Dhan Sanchay, which is a non-linked, non-participating, individual savings life insurance plan.
  • It will provide financial support to the family in case of the unfortunate death of the investor during the policy term.
  • It will also provide guaranteed income during the payout period from the date of policy maturity.

 

6) International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking: 26 June

  • The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day is observed on June 26 annually.
  • It is observed to spread awareness about the physical and psychological impact of substance abuse and drug-related problems across the globe.
  • The theme for 2022 is “Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crisis.”
  • The day was first observed in 1989.

 

7) Vijay Amritraj honoured with Golden Achievement Award

  • India’s Vijay Amritraj has been named the 2021 recipient of the Golden Achievement Award.
  • The Golden Achievement Award is presented annually by the International Tennis Hall of Fame and International Tennis Federation.
  • The award is given to a person who has made important contributions internationally to tennis in many different fields and has devoted long service to the sport.

 

8) Piyush Goyal inaugurates ‘Mango Festival’ in Belgium

  • Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated a “Mango Festival” in Brussels, Belgium on 17 June 2022.
  • It was inaugurated to raise awareness among Europeans and establish a market for Indian. mangoes in Europe.
  • Seven varieties of Indian mangoes were displayed at the event.
  • This is the first time the ‘mango festival’ was held in Belgium.

 

9) International Day in Support of Victims of Torture: 26 June

  • The International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is annually observed on 26 June.
  • The day is observed to call upon nations, civil societies and individuals all across the world to extend their support to victims of torture and those who are being tortured.
  • The United Nations General Assembly had first observed the day in 1998.

 

10) Shyam Saran appointed as President of India International Centre

  • Former foreign secretary Shyam Saran has taken over as the new President of the prestigious India International Centre.
  • He succeeded N N Vohra and took charge on 23 June 2022.
  • Saran has also served as Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Nuclear Affairs and Climate Change.
  • The India International Centre (IIC) is a non-official organisation situated in New Delhi.
  • It was founded in 1962.

 

11) Syngenta India signs pact with AIC

  • Syngenta India has entered into an exclusive agreement with the Agriculture Insurance Company of India (AIC).
  • This agreement will facilitate guaranteeing a fair price to the chilli growers of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh by indemnifying them for losses incurred due to a fall in market prices.
  • This is the first initiative in the market to insure the crop against the fluctuation of prices.

 

12) Jyothi & Abhishek win gold at Archery World Cup 2022 Stage-3

  • Archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma won the gold medal in the compound mixed team event at the Archery World Cup 2022 Stage-3 in Paris on 25 June 2022.
  • In the compound mixed team final, the Indian duo beat France by 152-149.
  • Jyothi also clinched a silver in the individual event after a loss in the final to Ella Gibson in the shoot-off.

 

13) Defence Ministry approves setting up of ‘BRO Cafes’ on 75 border roads

  • Ministry of Defence has approved setting up of wayside amenities under the brand of ‘BRO Cafes’ at 75 locations on different sections of roads with Border Roads Organisation (BRO) across 12 states and Union territories.
  • These are intended to provide basic amenities and comfort to the tourists and boost economic activities in border areas.

14) NHA to host first-ever open-to-all hackathon series

  • The National Health Authority (NHA) will host its first-ever open-to-all hackathon series from 14th to 17th July 2022.
  • The hackathon will be focused on the Unified Health Interface (UHI) and aim at mobilising the health start-up ecosystem in India.
  • National Health Authority is the successor of the National Health Agency.
  • It has been set up to implement “Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana”.

 

15) Rare Carnivorous plant species found for the first time in Uttarakhand

  • A rare carnivorous plant named ‘Utricularia Furcellata’ has been discovered in the Mandal valley of Chamoli district by the research wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department.
  • This is the first sighting of the plant in Uttarakhand as well as the entire western Himalayan region.
  • The discovery has been documented in the prestigious Journal of Japanese Botany’

 

16) 4 Indians in world’s top ’50 Next’ gastronomy gamechangers list

  • Four young Indian innovators have been named among the world’s top 50 leading gastronomy game-changers.
  • The prestigious list ’50 Next: Class of 2022′ celebrates the next generation of leaders creating sustainable solutions for the global food and drink industry.
  • The list includes Dr Risha Jasmine Nathan, Vinesh Johny, Anusha Murthy, and Nidhi Pant.
