1) Kerala to roll out MEDISEP scheme for State Government employees

  • Kerala Government will roll out MEDISEP – the medical insurance scheme for State Government employees, pensioners and their eligible family members from 1st July 2022.
  • The scheme will provide cashless medical assistance with comprehensive coverage of up to 3 lakhs per year.
  • It is being implemented through the public sector insurer, Oriental Insurance Company.

2) Scientists discover world’s largest bacterium

  • Scientists have discovered the world’s largest bacterium which can be seen with the naked eye.
  • The bizarre bacterium has been found in a Caribbean mangrove swamp.
  • It is approximately the size of a human eyelash.
  • The first example of this bacterium, named Thiomargarita magnifica, was found clinging to sunken mangrove leaves in the archipelago of Guadeloupe in 2009.

 

3) IAF participates in Tactical Leadership Programme in Egypt

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) is participating in Tactical Leadership Programme at Egyptian Air Force Weapon School in Cairo West Airbase.
  • IAF is participating with three Su-30MKI aircraft, two C-17 aircraft and 57 IAF personnel including C-17 contingent.
  • The exercise is aimed at enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries.
  • It began on 24 June 2022 and will continue up to 24 July 2022

 

4) Jammu and Kashmir to host G-20 summit in 2023

  • Jammu and Kashmir will host the 2023 meetings of the G20, an influential group of the world’s major economies.
  • The J&K government has set up a five-member high-level committee for the overall coordination of G20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory.
  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20 in September 2021.

5) Cyclist Ronaldo Singh: 1st Indian to bag silver at Asian Championship

  • Cyclist Ronaldo Singh made history by winning a silver medal in the senior category sprint event at the Asian Track Cycling Championship 2022 (41st edition) held in New Delhi.
  • This was the first Silver won by an Indian in Asian Track Championships.
  • The Indian cycling team finished its campaign with 23 combined medals.
  • Japan topped the overall medals tally with a total of 27 medals.

 

6) India successfully test-fires VL-SRSAM surface-to-air missile

  • India on 24 June 2022 successfully test-fired the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from an Indian Naval Ship off the coast of Chandipur in Odisha.
  • The test launch was conducted by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy.
  • VL-SRSAM, a ship-borne weapon system is meant for neutralising various aerial threats at close ranges.

 

7) Tapan Kumar Deka appointed as new Intelligence Bureau chief

  • The Central government on 24 June 2022 appointed senior IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka as Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB).
  • Deka, a 1988 batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IPS officer, has been appointed for a tenure of two years.
  • He will succeed incumbent Intelligence Bureau Director Arvind Kumar, whose tenure ends on 30 June 2022.
  • Deka is currently the head of the Operations Desk of the IB.

 

8) C-DOT and Galore Networks to collaborate for 5G solutions

  • Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed an agreement with Galore Networks for the collaborative development of end-to-end 5G Radio Access Network products & solutions.
  • This agreement will help in the indigenous design, development & manufacturing of 5G products & solutions.
  • C-DOT is an Indian Govt owned telecommunications technology development centre

9) India jump two places to 104 in FIFA ranking

  • The Indian football team has gained two places to jump to 104th in the latest FIFA world rankings released on 23 June 2022.
  • They are placed just below New Zealand (103rd).
  • India’s ranking among Asian Football Confederation members, however, still remained static at 19th place.
  • Iran retained the top spot among AFC countries at 23rd place.

 

10) National Conference on Millets inaugurated

  • Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the National Conference on Millets on 23 June 2022.
  • It was organised by industry body ASSOCHAM on the theme ‘The Future Super Food for India’ in New Delhi.
  • The major millets producing states in India include Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

 

11) European Union grants candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia

  • The European Parliament on 23 June 2022 granted European Union (EU) candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.
  • It was announced by European Council President Charles Michel.
  • Now, in order to join the EU, the three countries will be required to carry out a series of political and economic reforms.
  • European Union Membership – 27 members

12) Parameswaran lyer appointed as CEO of NITI Aayog

  • Retired IAS officer and former Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Parameswaran lyer has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog.
  • He has been appointed for a term of two years.
  • He will succeed Amitabh Kant, whose tenure ends on 30 June 2022.

13) P Udayakumar begins office as NSIC’s Chairman and Managing Director

  • P Udayakumar has assumed charge as NSIC’s Chairman and Managing Director.
  • He is currently the Director (Plng and Mktg) at NSIC.
  • He assumed the charge with effect from 20th June 2022.
  • National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC) is a government enterprise under the Ministry of MSME.
  • He will also be the Chairman of NSIC Venture Capital Fund Ltd.

 

14) RBI imposes monetary penalty on IOB for non-compliance

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 24 June 2022 imposed a monetary penalty of €57.50 lakh on Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) for non-compliance with certain directions.
  • The penalty was related to the directions issued by RBI on Frauds – Classification and Reporting by commercial banks and select financial institutions.
