1) SBI launches WhatsApp Banking Services
- SBI has officially begun offering WhatsApp banking services to its customers.
- Customers can know their account balance and check mini statements on the go via SBI WhatsApp banking services.
- Recently in July, Open agri network Samunnati has entered into a co-lending partnership with SBI to expand its outreach to Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).

2) HDFC Bank to be among global top 10 banks after merger
- HDFC Bank will be among the world’s top 10 most valuable banks after its merger with parent HDFC.
- The combined market cap of HDFC Bank and HDFC would be around $160 billion.
- HDFC Bank is a systemically important bank in India along with SBI and ICICI Bank.
- Recently in April, RBI approved HDFC Bank’s proposed merger with parent and mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corp Ltd (HDFC)
3) Wasifa Nazreen becomes first Bangladeshi to scale K2
- Mountaineer Wasifa Nazreen became the first Bangladeshi to scale the second highest mountain peak K2 in Pakistan.
- She climbed the 8611 metres or 28,251 feet high K2 mountain peak and returned to the base camp on 22 July 2022.
- Wasifa Nazreen climbed Mount Everest in 2012.
- She is the second woman from Bangladesh to do so.
4) Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur releases three books by DPD
- Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur on 24 July 2022 released three books published by Directorate of Publications Division.
- The three books are: ‘Moods, Moments and Memories – Former Presidents of India (1950-2017)’; ‘A Visual History First Citizen – Pictorial Record of President Ram Nath Kovind’s Term’, and ‘Interpreting Geometries – Flooring of Rashtrapati Bhavan!
5) World Drowning Prevention Day: 25 July
- World Drowning Prevention Day is celebrated annually on 25 July.
- The United Nations recognised this day for the global advocacy of drowning prevention with a resolution.
- The day was recognised in April 2021 by a General Assembly resolution.
- According to the UN, an estimated 236,000 people drown annually, which makes drowning a major public health problem all around the world.
6) Manoj Mukund Naravane honoured for strengthening Indo-US ties
- Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane has been honoured by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) for his role in strengthening ties between India and US.
- During his time as Chief of Staff, Gen Naravane helped with improving defence partnerships between India & US.
- He served as the 27th Chief of the Indian Army Staff.
- Gen Naravane retired on 30 April 2022.
7) ADB approves $96 mn loan for safe drinking water in Himachal Pradesh
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $96.3 mn loan to fund safe drinking water and sanitation project in Himachal Pradesh.
- The loan has been provided under the Himachal Pradesh Rural Drinking Water Improvement & Livelihood Project.
- The ADB project will connect 75,800 households to the service, providing an uninterrupted water supply to about 370,000 residents across 10 districts.
8) U.S. firm Panattoni to invest $200mn in logistics parks in India
- S. firm Panattoni will invest $200 million (about 1,597 crore) in India to develop four industrial and logistics parks across major cities as it sees huge growth potential amid rising demand for warehouses.
- Panattoni, a global leader in industrial & logistics real estate development debuted in Asian market with India.
- Panattoni India Development Pvt. Ltd. is headquartered in Bengaluru.
9) EIB joins India-led ‘Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure’
- The European Investment Bank (EIB) has joined the India-led Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
- EIB has joined this coalition as part of efforts to limit the damage caused by climate change.
- It will work to promote the development of infrastructure resilient to climate change.
- CDRI was launched at the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019 at the initiative of India.
10) Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard Wins 2022 Tour de France
- Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark won his first Tour de France title on 24 July 2022.
- He finished 3 minutes, 34 seconds ahead of second-place Tadej Pogacar.
- With this win, Vingegaard has become the first Danish rider to win Tour de France since Bjarne Riis in 1996.
- It was the 109th edition of the Tour de France which began in Denmark, on 1 July and ended in Paris on 24 July.
11) India’s first brain health clinic launched in Bengaluru
- Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar inaugurated India’s first brain health clinic in Bengaluru on 22 July 2022.
- It has been launched to diagnose, treat & follow up patients with common neurological disorders.
- The clinic was launched under the Karnataka Brain Health Initiative (Ka-BHI) at Jayanagar General Hospital.
- Ka-BHI aims to train doctors to diagnose brain health issues.
12) Kargil Vijay Diwas: 26 July
- Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War in 1999.
- During this war, the Indian Army evicted Pakistani intruders and recaptured Tiger Hill and other posts as a part of ‘Operation Vijay.’
- Every year, on July 26, the Prime Minister pays. his respects to the soldiers who were martyred in the war.
