1) Know About: UNSC

  • UNSC: United Nations Security Council
  • It is one of the of the six principal organs of the United Nations.
  • It ensures international peace and security, recommends the admission of new UN members to the General Assembly, and approves any changes to the UN Charter.
  • It was founded on 24 October 1945.
  • Headquarters: New York
  • Members: 15, out of which 5 are permanent

 

2) PNB Housing Finance interim CFO Kaushal Mithani resigns

  • PNB Housing Finance Interim CFO Kaushal Mithani resigned from the position. He was appointed as the interim CFO in April.
  • PNB Housing Finance Limited (PNB Housing) is a registered housing finance company with National Housing Bank (NHB).
  • It was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 and commenced its operations on 11 November 1988.
  • PNB Housing is promoted by Punjab National Bank (PNB)

 

3) National Conference of Labour Ministers to be held from 25 August

  • PM Narendra Modi will address the National Conference of Labour Ministers of all States and Union Territories on 25 August 2022.
  • The two-day Conference is being organised by the Labour and Employment Ministry at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
  • It will have four thematic sessions.
  • These include integrating the e-Shram portal for onboarding social security schemes.

 

4) HPCL commences its first Cow dung to Compressed Biogas Project

  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited commenced its Cowdung to Compressed Biogas Project at Sanchore, Rajasthan, in August 2022.
  • This will be HPCL’s first project under Waste to Energy portfolio.
  • The plant is proposed to utilize 100 Tons per day of dung to produce biogas, which can be utilized as automotive fuel.
  • The project is being developed under GOBAR-Dhan scheme.

 

5) New virus ‘Tomato flu’ detected in India

  • A new virus ‘Tomato flu’ has been detected in India.
  • 26 children aged up to ten years have ‘Tomato flu’, whereas, 82 kids below five years of age have been infected so far.
  • Those infected with ‘Tomato flu’ complain of symptoms like red blisters on the skin, joint pain and fever.
  • The viral infection is rare and is in an endemic state.
  • It currently does not threaten life.

 

6) All 23 AIIMS to be named after local heroes, monuments

  • The government has approved a proposal to give specific names to all the AIIMS, based on regional heroes, freedom fighters, historical events or monuments of the area or their distinct geographical identity.
  • Majority of the 23 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have submitted a list of names.
  • All the AIIMS are known by its generic name and distinguished only by their location.

 

7) India to host UNSC members for meeting on counter-terrorism in October

  • India will host diplomats of the 15-nation UN Security Council in October 2022 for a special meeting on counter-terrorism.
  • India’s tenure at the Council will end in December 2022.
  • Current members of the Security Council are Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway and the UAE, along with five permanent members China, France, Russia, the UK and the US.

 

8) Know About: National Dairy Development Board (NDDB)

  • The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is a statutory body set up by an Act of the Parliament of India.
  • It is under the ownership of Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying of the Govt of India.
  • NDDB’s main function is to conceptualize and promote programs for the development of the dairy sector.
  • Founded: 1965
  • Founder: Dr Verghese Kurien
  • Headquarters: Anand, Gujarat

 

9) Govt extends tenure of Meenesh Shah as NDDB Chairman for 6 months

  • The Central govt has extended the tenure of Meenesh C Shah, as the chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), for another six months until 30 November 2022.
  • This is the second time he has been given the extension.
  • Shah was appointed as the Chairman of NDDB in 2021.
  • Before Shah, Dilip Rath was the chairman of NDDB who resigned from the post in December 2020.
  • NDDB Founded: 1965

 

10) PM Modi inaugurates Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital in Mohali

  • PM Modi on 24 August 2022 inaugurated Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre at Mullanpur of Punjab’s Mohali district.
  • It has been built at a cost of over 660 crores by Tata Memorial Centre.
  • It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) & digital radiography.
  • The hospital will function as a “hub” of cancer care and treatment in Punjab.

 

11) Anurag Thakur launches ‘Azadi Quest’ online educational mobile games

  • Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Anurag Thakur on 24 August 2022 launched the ‘Azadi Quest’, a series of online educational games based on India’s freedom struggle.
  • I&B Ministry in collaboration with Zynga India has developed these games.
  • Aim: to highlight key milestones of India’s freedom struggle and encourage digital learning experience.

 

12) World U20 Wrestling Championships 2022: India finish with 16 medals

  • India finished their campaign at the World U20 Wrestling Championships 2022 with a total of 16 medals (1 gold, 4 silvers & 11 bronze).
  • During the championship, Antim Panghal became the first ever Indian woman to win a gold medal in the U-20 world wrestling championships.
  • Japan with 9 gold medals topped the medal tally.
  • The championship was held in Sofia, Bulgaria between 15-21 August 2022.
