1) National Broadcasting Day: 23 July

  • National Broadcasting Day is observed on 23 July every year.
  • On this day in 1927, the first-ever radio broadcast in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company.
  • On the 8th of June, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio.
  • Radio broadcasting services started in India during the British rule in 1923.

 

2) India to set up Joint Theatre Commands of Tri-Services

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 24 July 2022 announced the setting up of joint theatre commands of the tri-services to enhance coordination among the armed forces.
  • Each of the theatre commands will have units of the Army, the Navy & the Air Force and all of them will work as a single entity looking after security challenges in a specified geographical territory.

 

3) Indian-Origin professor Kaushik Rajashekara wins Global Energy Prize

  • Kaushik Rajashekara, an Indian-origin professor at the University of Houston, has won the prestigious Global Energy Prize for the year 2022.
  • He has won the prize for outstanding contributions to transportation electrification and energy efficiency technologies while reducing power generation emissions.
  • This award is given by Global Energy Association in Russia.

4) Neeraj Chopra wins silver at the 2022 World Athletics Championships

  • Neeraj Chopra on 24 July 2022 won a Silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event at World Athletics Championships in Eugene, US.
  • Chopra grabbed the 2nd position with his best throw of 88.13 metres.
  • Grenadian Anderson Peters won the gold medal with a throw of 90.54 meters.
  • With this win, Neeraj Chopra has become the first-ever Indian to win a silver medal at World Athletics Championships.

 

5) Droupadi Murmu to take oath as 15th President of India

  • Droupadi Murmu to take oath as the 15th President of India today.
  • The oath of the office will be administered by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana.
  • She will be the first President to be born after Independence and is the youngest to occupy the top post.
  • She is also the first tribal woman candidate and second woman in the country to occupy the highest constitutional position of India.

 

6) Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad appointed as Kuwait’s new Prime Minister

  • Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has been appointed the new Prime Minister of Kuwait, 3 months after the ex-Kuwaiti government resigned.
  • The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Jaber issued an Emiri Decree on 19 July 2022 appointing him Prime Minister.
  • Former PM Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled had resigned from the post in April 2022.

7) WHO declares monkeypox a global health emergency

  • World Health Organization (WHO) has declared monkeypox a global health emergency.
  • It came at the end of the second meeting of the WHO’s emergency committee on the virus.
  • The classification is the highest alert that the WHO can issue and follows a worldwide upsurge in cases.
  • More than 16,000 cases have now been reported from 75 countries.
  • There have been five deaths so far.

 

8) Income Tax Day: 24 July

  • Income Tax Day is observed in India every year on July 24.
  • It was first observed in 2010 to commemorate 150 years of Income tax in India.
  • On July 24, 1860, James Wilson introduced income tax for the first time in India.
  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) celebrates this day by organizing several programmes across the country to promote the payment of taxes.

9) Government amends Flag Code of India

  • The Govt has amended the Flag Code of India to allow the tricolour to be displayed in the open & on individual houses or buildings through day & night.
  • The provision earlier allowed the flag, when displayed in the open, to be flown from sunrise to sunset.
  • The Flag Code was earlier amended in 2021, allowing the use of polyester, apart from cotton, wool, silk & khadi for making flags.

 

10) Jammu Film Festival to begin from September 3

  • The second edition of Jammu Film Festival will be held here from September 3, 2022.
  • 54 projects from 15 countries including feature films, documentaries, and shorts will be screened during the event.
  • The first ever international film festival here was held in September in 2019 in Jammu, the winter capital of the Union Territory,

 

11) Maritime Partnership Exercise conducted between India and Japan

  • A Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) was conducted between Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and Indian Navy on 23 July 2022 in Andaman Sea.
  • INS Sukanya and JS Samidare undertook various exercises including seamanship activities as part of the operational interaction.
  • The exercise was aimed at enhancing interoperability and streamlining seamanship and communication procedures.

 

12) 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League to start from 25 July 2022

  • The 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League will start from 25 July 2022 at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
  • The first-of-its-kind national fencing competition for women will take place until 29 July 2022.
  • It will be held in over three phases.
  • A total of 1 crore 54 lakh has been sanctioned over the conduct of the league.
  • The prize money for each phase will be over 17 lakh rupees.

 

13) National Thermal Engineer Day: 24 July

  • National Thermal Engineer Day is commemorated every year on July 24.
  • It honours the importance of thermal management in the electronics sectors along with the engineers and businesses that make it possible.
  • The Advanced Thermal Inc (ATS) first acknowledged July 24th as the National Thermal Engineer Day in the year 2014 with the intention to highlight the innovation of the thermal. industries.
