1) Jyothi Surekha Vennam clinches two gold medals
- India won two gold medals, one each in the mixed team event and women’s individual Compound, at the Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 1 in Antalya, Turkey on 22 Apr’23.
- Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale outclassed Chen Yi Hsuan and Chem Chieh Lun of Chinese Taipei 159-154 to win the mixed team gold.
- Jyothi Surekha Vennam defeated Sara Lopez of Columbia 149-146, to win another gold.
2) EAM Dr S Jaishankar co-chairs 5th India-Guyana Joint Commission
- External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar co-chaired the 5th India-Guyana Joint Commission Meeting with Foreign Minister Hugh Todd on 22 April 2023.
- There was comprehensive discussions on agriculture, energy, health and pharmaceuticals, ayurveda and wellness, defence cooperation, human resources, etc.
- Exchange of agreements took place in Migration and Mobility and Air Connectivity.
3) Star Sports signs Rishabh Pant as brand ambassador
- The Walt Disney Company-owned Star Sports has signed cricketer Rishabh Pant as its latest brand ambassador.
- The company also has other cricketers as its ‘Believe Ambassadors’ like Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, and Shreyas lyer.
- With this, Star Sports has expanded its roster from two ambassadors in 2017 to six now with Virat Kohli continuing his association.

5) World Creativity And Innovation Day: 21 April
- World Creativity and Innovation Day is celebrated annually on April 21.
- The day promotes the importance of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human life.
- It was first celebrated in 2002 and has gained global recognition since then.
- In 2005, the United Nations recognised the importance of creativity and innovation and declared April 21 as World Creativity and Innovation Day.
6) HSBC signs up Virat Kohli as their brand influencer
- HSBC India has announced that they’ve signed up the Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli as their brand influencer.
- The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited was founded in 1865.
- It is headquartered in London, UK.
- It was founded by Thomas Sutherland
7) First G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank governors meeting begins
- The First G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting will begin on 24 Apr’23 in Bengaluru.
- The two-day meeting, under the G20 Indian Presidency, will be jointly chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Shaktikanta Das.
- The meeting will be deliberated on issues such as strengthening multilateral development banks.
8) Chinese Defence Minister to visit India for SCO meet
- Chinese Defence Minister Li Shangful will visit India to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers’ meeting planned to be held on 27-28 April, 2023.
- This will be the first time that a Chinese defence minister will be in India following the Galwan Valley clash.
- The SCO comprises India, Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
9) Centre conducts first-ever census of water bodies across the country
- Ministry of Jal Shakti has conducted the first-ever census of water bodies across the nation.
- In the census, over 24.24 lakh water bodies have been enumerated in the country out of which more than 23 lakh water bodies are in rural areas and nearly 69,000 are in urban areas.
- The top 5 states in terms of number of water bodies are West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Assam.
10 New York City tops the list of world’s wealthiest cities 2023
- New York City topped a new list of the world’s wealthiest cities in 2023, with Japan’s Tokyo and Silicon Valley’s Bay Area claiming the second and third spots.
- Mumbai featured at 21 while Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad too found a mention.
- The list was compiled by London-based consultancy Henley & Partners.
- It was dominated by cities in the United States and China.
